Cool video, thanks Anthony! I would like to see you throw some of these more. Sometimes I can't see them against the sky, I suppose that's a huge challenge in producing this content!! Some of my most thrown discs are Lat64 (Fuse, River, Saint - moulds that have been around a while), and I'd like to try more. How about a Brave v Project Grip Explorer v River v Maul (plus some others if you like) 7-speed comparison video? That'd be sweet! Love your work, appreciate the content buddy!

Lat 64 used to make overmolded discs - I still have a Fuji on the shelf that flies a lot like a Pyro. There wasn't a problem with patent or anything there - I think they just didn't sell very many of them at the time, so they stopped.

I wonder if the “extra glide” is you being able to put extra spin rpms on the grip discs. Usually extra spin will make the disc pan thru its flight much slower which sometimes appears as “more flippy.” You are correct about pitchers and “sticky substances” in that they are trying to put extra RPMs on them.
@greybearddiscgolf
@greybearddiscgolf 5 ай бұрын
To check spin rate, get a couple of Game Proofers. Similar to the TechDisc, but you can remove it and reinstall it on any disc you want. The data is still lacking, you can't get nose angle or hyzer angle... yet, (they promise it's coming), and if you throw into a net, no distance estimation, but you can pull the tag off and reinstall it on any disc you want. $10 each plus shipping for the attachment kit.

I think that this plastic line could be very useful for beginners. The extra rotations could help with distance as well as this plastic making it a little flipper

Can confirm that the explorer is more flippy than a regular run. It flies closer to the brave or something with -1. For my arm and small hands they are perfect. I feel like I can commit to the hit a bit better. Possible just a mental thing but for hitting gaps they are currently money! (Could also be honeymoon phase and a bit sunk cost)

I was really hoping the Grace was going to be an overstable version. I found a used one before that was way more stable than most of my other Graces for some reason and it was perfect because I had a neutral grace, and a beat-in one, and now the os one, so I could throw a grace for whatever shot I needed. Alas, it lives in the bottom of a lake now, and none of the graces I've gotten since have been as stable as that one random used one.

From the beginning I got the impression that they couldn't put other plastic other than Royal Grand (or Supreme) plastic in their "Next" molds. This tells me that is clearly wrong and I think a lot of ppl would like a Grace, Rive or Trust in Opto. Meybe in the future? :) Grand plastic feels great but many would argue against it's durability.
@BodanzaDiscGolf
@BodanzaDiscGolf 5 ай бұрын
My guess is since this project grip process is a newer process than the one required to make the royal line, they made it so they could use it on all older discs. I still don't think we'll be getting any older plastics with the royal line molds. even if it's possible, it'd be a bit short sighted on the business end since they'd be able to market a "new transparent" plastic for the royal line and call it something else and upcharge

Tech disc may not have plastic options to test your grip vs. rpm hypothesis. Could you do a video testing different grip substances on your hand using the tech disc? I think McBeth did a similar non-scientific experiment a couple years back and seems to be the case it helps with spin and distance.

IDK about yours, but mine are all significantly below max weight. 169g for the grace compared to the 175g stock grand grace I was comparing it with. 170g for the compass compared to the 178g gold compass they included in the box. The explorer and the pure in my box were lower weights too. All of them flew more understable than the max weight counterparts I was testing them against. I still think they feel amazing (and tbh the 169g grace flies wayyyy better for me than the max weight) but its a little tough for me to fairly compare them.

Is the grippy plastic the same as their frost? That is what I immediately thought upon reading about these discs. Most of the discs they released in Frost, Elasto, and Fluid (Lat 64, Westside, and Dynamic) were understable and it made them even more understable. (River, Fuse, Underworld, Tursas, Maverick) Dynamic did release the Felon and Justice in Fluid, but I did not try these two out.
@BodanzaDiscGolf
@BodanzaDiscGolf 5 ай бұрын
no, from what I understand frost is really floppy as well as grippy, the point of these is to keep the stiffness while adding lots of grip
@bakerby
@bakerby 5 ай бұрын
Just got my box. That centre plastic is absolutely frost/elasto/fluid. Side by side they are the same thing - except f/e/f were all semi-transparent. I guess the stiff outer rim plastic allows for more stability. (I have yet to throw one.)

It seems like they're using a co-injection molding machine? I uses to work in an Injection molding facility and they did this with buckets to use regrind in the "core" of the plastic and the "skin" was virgin resin. I'd imagine it's entirely possible to do this with 2 different blends of plastic.

No way you can count a shank as a hyzer. It's the intention that counts here. Also a flat shot with an overstable disc that fades in the end is not a hyzer. What comes to this project grip, I'm all for having more grip on my drivers which tend to slip because I'm forced to throw with fan grip. It's just really weird the way they market it. Project Grip sounds very much like a working title and this was not a proper release. The patent pending part is also interesting, because other companies have done similar and potentially the exact same trials. I get that the market has saturated and bringing new molds as such doesn't drive their sales like it used to. So they have to focus on new plastics and other gimmicks (innovation :D), but the marketing especially seems off here.
