Thanks for the detailed review! I have a reMarkable 2 for over two years now, and I'm always interested in what the competition brings. The main downsides of reMarkable compared to this is: 1) No repairability (or rather very very difficult) 2) Subscription fee 3) The 'straight line' issue you spoke of. I got it without any folio, it's enough that you put it in a backpack with a laptop, that has some magnets. I hope consumers chose Nomad or products like this, that offer easy repairability so that it can be used at least a decade. I'll continue to use my reMarkable since it works well, but if anything were to happen to it, I'll have to consider this.

It‘s 500$ with the admittedly super expensive folio and pen. I bought mine a couple of days ago for 350$ because I just use no folio at all and have a functional pen already. I just stuff it into a compartment of a bag I have and use it as is. You‘d get an iPad with zero accessories for that price as well and we all know how much apple likes to charge extra for them. I still plan on getting a folio eventually although I think I‘ll diy one.
@user-kp2jz3qv2k6 ай бұрын
Also they added things like sideloading by now and they‘re actually listening to feedback. That‘s what I personally like to pay for although asking 150$ for a basic folio and pen is ridiculous to me as well. It‘s not as ridiculous though as having to pay 8$/month to access google drive like the remarkable does. It‘s not even their service and you pay monthly…

@loldoctor10 ай бұрын
I've found this technology really appealing for years now, as I have problems focusing if I'm taking notes/annotating a document on a PC. It's just too easy to be lazy and over-annotate rather than really thinking about why a sentence or passage stands out to you. I'm sure everyone has had that moment of opening an old file and finding 50% of it highlighted with notes that aren't helpful at all. Handwriting forces you to commit to an annotation, thereby inclining you only to annotate things that are worth more than a "yes" or "agreed" in the margin. That said, I still do all my work on real paper and type up my notes afterwards. I just... I just can't bring myself to commit to purchasing one of these e-ink devices. There are so many things about it that feel just a little off, a little awkward, a little less than what I want. I'm sure you get used to those things and probably you don't even notice them after a while. But eventually I won't have to get used to them because eventually there's going to be a breakthrough in responsiveness or refresh rate. I've been holding out for that breakthrough for at least 10 years. It's going to come soon, I swear. I will say that this device does have a lot of pretty amazing features. The left bar's functionality is really interesting, particularly the select shortcut, and I feel my life will forever be incomplete until I have that handwriting-to-header menu. But above all else, the bracket shortcut at 11:25 is brilliant and almost enough to make me break out my wallet right now. But I won't. I'll keep waiting for that breakthrough. Or retirement. Whichever comes first.

Only two things holding me back on this. From an artist perspective, (which is why I would want this for my sketching) that screen is too small. Sounds like a 10" model is coming soon so that would be great. But the real killer is the lack of ability to erase at the pixel level. In other words it should allow for me to erase a small fraction of a line rather than the entire line that I just laid down. I don't need an "undo" as much as I would desire a true eraser.

Ohhhh realise I never showed this, it has a normal eraser, it's on the top menu bar, just isn't a default. The Lamy EMR pen also has a dedicated button to activate the pixel based eraser, which is quite useful for sketching. Keep an eye out for that larger model, I reckon it'll be a hit with Artists.

@@camshand Perfect!!!! I reached out to them and they indeed confirmed likely a late March release for the larger screened model. And they also confirmed the eraser functionality too. This may be such a great sketchpad solution for me!!!!

I've long been wondering what eink device you're using for your sketches.

This looks great and the 10.3” sounds like the size I’m looking for. Sadly went to the website and I couldn’t find a mention of it.

This looks awesome, found myself writing more notes so i'm looking for a good e-ink notepad.

Do you know what the price of the new larger format will be? I'm really keen as I read lots of pdf journal articles and have issues with my eyes
@iham131310 ай бұрын
looks great; just want to see different sizes (small like a smartphone, medium like the current device and large for bigger canvas); also color e-ink would be great - nothing fancy; just some basic colours for sketching stuff

Large is coming soon, should be called the A5 X2 so keep a lookout for that. As for phone sized, i've seen them be popular for reading, but given the supernote is a writing first device it may be a bit limited having a notepad size. Could be interesting though. And yeah colour would be cool but theyre very slow. Having even one colour like red drastically increases the refresh times of the eink display. Great for readers, but for drawing quite tricky. Cool thing is you can export your markup on documents as a red or blue pen when saving as PDF. So on a computer it will stand out more

How many small form factors do they need. It seems they shelved the work on the A4 size. It's a nice product but it's more of the same.
@camshand8 ай бұрын
not sure what you mean be how many do the need, as the Nomad line is to replace the previous, so there will be a larger A4 size Nomad. www.reddit.com/r/Supernote/comments/1bct7xm/update_on_the_development_of_a5_x2/ They posted an update on their website saying that the great success of the smaller model (shown in this review) has placed great strain on their limited resources but they are still working on releasing the new model.

@@camshand I just saw this: "The A6X and A5X are out of production and not sold new from Ratta Supernote anymore, and since some parts necessary to continue manufacturing these are not available anymore, their successors are the A6X2 Nomad and A5X2". I thought the Nomad was just an additional A6 form factor. I'm pretty sure Supernote will not be producing an A4 size anytime soon. This is the reply I received from Supernote on Facebook when I inquired about the A4X: Supernote George Kountouris Unfortunately, we do not currently have confirmed information about the release date of A4 X.

Is there something like this but for drawing, with colors? But with all the restrictions so it's not a tablet.

It's been a couple years since I've looked into the current market for full color eInk devices like what you're asking about, and the last time I checked, the answer was a firm "no." However, it looks like things have changed and the answer is now "kind of." At the moment, there are two devices that I am finding. One offers a bit more functionality than something like the Supernote or Remarkable tablets, and it's called the Boox Tab Ultra C Pro. The other is the Boox Note Air3. They run Android, and the Tab Ultra Pro has a built-in track pad, seems to come with a folding keyboard and a pen, so that's pretty cool. *But* neither are anywhere close to true color, or even high color, in terms of the color gamut of the display they use. The best display that I have seen on the market for color output has a color gamut of ~60k colors, which means that it should be able to display a 16-bit RGB "high color" image with minimal artifacting. I say minimal artifacting because high color can display ~65,000 different colors. For comparison, almost all computer and phone use 24-bit RGB "true color" displays, which can display over 16,000,000 colors; and internally, applications like Photoshop uses 48-bit RGB "deep color" which can encode over 200,000,000,000,000 colors. But the display of Boox Tab Ultra C Pro and Boox Note Air3 have a color gamut of only 4096 colors; so you would be relatively limited in your available palette for art. But in a few years, I fully expect to see another generation of consumer devices making use of the better high color equivalent displays, if there aren't already any about to roll out.

Wow, this seems amazing. I've personally had a reMarkable 2 for about 2 years at this point, and I absolutely love that thing, but there are some things that I wish it could do. It seems like the Supernote just does all of those things natively. Ie, it's simply awesome. I will certainly look into getting a Supernote instead of the reMarkable 3 (or a replacement 2) in the future when my reMarkable 2 decides to become too much of a nuisance.
