I miss watching Kevin and Brian. These two guys go way back to when going into a pet store was fun and informative. I bought my first Burmese python in 1986. It was the Burmese or the green tree but the Burmese won. Before moving back to NYC I lived in Louisiana where I caught snakes, turtles, frogs and lizards in the yard. I was hooked!!! I moved back to Queens NY and at that time you could go to a pet store and buy a monkey. Times have changed and as you can see you can't go to Petco and buy a monkey anymore. I love watching all the monitor socialization videos because I own 2 tegus and a monitor. I wish Kevin lived closer LOL cause I can work around my big red but he is awaiting the day I slip up. Till then he puts up with me.

Agreed, Kevin is an asset to the reptile community. I admire that Kevin is one of the few pet animals keepers that is aware and acknowledges the welfare concerns with animals raised for human food. Most pet animal keepers only care about pet animal welfare concerns and are either ignorant of these issues or don't seem to care.

Yesterday was the first time my Corn snake slithered right out of her enclosure right onto my arm when I opened it to change the water. I was surprised but my heart grew three sizes knowing she trusts me enough to use me as a human transport to explore the house. The relationship with reptiles and us hobbyists are so interesting. I love developing trust with them.

Our family got a rescue Ball like 8 years ago. I'm not scared of snakes but was more a mammal person. His enclosure was in my grown daughter's room most of his time with us until we moved 4 years ago. He's in the living room now and I'm retired so home all the time. He and I have really developed a relationship and I'm loving it. The family teases me that I've managed to spoil my grandsnake. I spend way more time with him than anyone else and I love watching his trust grow. Dogs crave attention, cats to a lesser degree but having a snake crave your presence is a cool thing.

I'm moving soon and I plan to use some of my new space to rehabilitate and rehome rescued reptiles in the hobby. There's a need for reptile shelters just as much as our furry friends
@katiekane52478 ай бұрын
Huge need! I almost hate how popular some channels have become because of the increase in availability and price points. I come from the furry rescue side before retirement. We'd see any breed that got popular in movies or shows start to flood the market. Bad breeders and uninformed buyers meant way more pets being abandoned or turned in to shelters. It's way easier to bring home a Bearded dragon than a Dalmatian puppy but both deserve to not be exploited and to have a good life. Hope you're able to fill the need!

kevin is one of the people that showcases just how wonderful these animals are, while also keeping it real about the joy and the heartache. so glad i stumbled across a segment with him on clint's reptiles about forming threads of trust. i don't know that i would have felt ready for keeping snakes without understanding their modes. which has helped me recognize my Own modes ie, recognizing when my ptsd is activated and getting myself into thinking mode so i can remind myself that i'm safe and get back into a regulated mode.

My 22 lizards LOVE affection and soft, comfy blankets…pillows and beds AND they have emotions way more than fur animals. Mine love to be hugged, kissed and will turn their cheeks toward me to demand a kiss. All 22 are super smart and want to be with us, their family. People need to understand scaly babies are not these solitary, unemotional creature…being domesticated and living in a house makes a lizard want what humans want…comfort, stability, stimulation ( being talked too, loved on, taken outside for sun and fun). When people realize just how lizards really are their mind would be shocked. They are way different than people think. After 34 years plus years of keeping lizard family I wish people knew how incredible and loving these reptiles are, they rival dogs imho and even dogs don’t connect fully to humans like lizards do! My lizards cry, whimper, get depressed, have favorite foods, smile…

Definitely a lot of fakes in the hobby, in it for the money or to build up a following. And lots at the top who only want to associate themselves with other people at the top, like an elitist group.
