The thing that made the original MT10 so great (and imo so much better than all of the competition for street riding) was that the engineers got the brief. It was never meant to be the fastest Hypernaked on the block. It was the one that was meant to just be bonkers, but still versatile and usable on public roads. The wheelbase is stupidly short (mostly due to the shorter swingarm) and the center of gravity with a rider on is way back compared to the R1, which gives it the wheelie happiness and excitement. The engine "lacks" the unusable power at the top, but has more grunt in the midrange than most, while still retaining the three step power delivery that gives you the easily usable low-end for relaxed riding, then shoves you in the back when you reach midrange and still provides a top end rush. Both are "stupid" decisions if you want to be fast on a track, but make it amazing on public roads. Something most other manufacturers seem to have missed. There's obviously more factors here, but this comment is already too long as is :D The MT10 to me is the best of the bunch, but I also don't care about specsheet bragging rights.... As for wishes: higher weight capacity, larger fuel tank, lower pillion pegs, less thirsty, sleeker switchgear, smartphone connectivity and go back to the older design.

Love the long comment my friend! Shows passion. Completely agree with what you said!

Tracer 10 is the one we waiting for. Windscreen, larger fueltank etc.. a competitor against 1000xr and 1290 superduke gt. It would be an awesome sport touring machine

Yea, I would love to try one of those. Especially with the cross plane engine.

So, what would the bike you describe cost? Would there be enough differential between it and the SF V4S and M1000R to make it attractive?

Good question, it’s currently 14k on the road and the SP is around 16k. R1 has a lighter crank, Ti rods, lighter flywheel, higher CR, different combustion chambers, lighter valves ( higher rpm ), different valve springs, different porting, smaller airbox, dual injectors on each throttle body and different cams to the MT10. Realistically for a non SP I think 15 to 16k but in all honestly I have no idea on the fine detail which would actually make up the final price.

@@BikeLikeMike92I think 15-16 is wishful thinking tbh, I'd be straight into my dealer! That R1 engine is a peach and with the necessary cycle parts upgrades to handle it, I reckon 3-4K more and herein lies the problem. Be great if they did it though. Nice video and food for thought.

@@astrostrotch yeah I think it is too! You never know! We will see in the coming years. Appreciate you watching 🙂

r1 has same chassis , you could never use the power as you need a fairing to cope with the wind

Tell that to BMW and Ducati!

How much is too much? Usable power on a street bike, think about it for a while. Sorry, not trying to get into a fight, but I don’t understand the ever increasing demand for power in street bikes. Where does it get used? Get a track bike for the track, street for street. Seems pretty simple to me. Try commuting in a Porsche 911. I know, I’m crazy. Cheers. 👍🤪🏳️🌈

Healthy debate! That’s what the videos for… it’s great to see everyone’s stance on what the MT should be in the future. I used to think the same, too much etc and you are right! But… if you ride a bike with 200bhp you normally want it anyway 😂
