Burjtransit is getting even more creative. The traffic on the lakefront can be torture for commuters. I love the ideas expressed in this video. Could you make a train line without taking away the roadway?

I think a median-running light rail is very possible

I would love that lake shore line

CDOT needs to better plan out lane closures while fixing the Drive. The worst thing they've done was funneling traffic from 4 lanes to just 1 lane. This is why I avoid driving (and taking the bus) on LSD.

I'd suggest the lake shore rail line connect to a subway under devon Ave, and perhaps connect to linconwood town center on its way to a junction with the yellow line tracks Skokie shop could extend significantly east to provide yard space

Lakeshore Exp buses are great. I wish more cities would adopt this type of service.

Yeah I like your ideas that you come up with these bus routes. They need to really seriously update all these bus routes. You know it's like we have this museum railroad with modern equipment. I heard that phrase over 30 years ago. Museum railroad with modern equipment.

The main reason the 147 uses Foster instead of Hollywood is to facilitate driver reliefs since the garage the 147 originates from is on Foster. It's a one seat bus ride from the garage to Sheridan.
@BurjTransit4 ай бұрын
I thought that might be the case. It would be pretty easy to extend the 92 to Hollywood and Sheridan, and still have a one seat ride from the Garage.
@mrAhollandjr4 ай бұрын
There's no need to extend it to Hollywood . At Foster the 92 connects with the 146, 36, 147 and 151. @BurjTransit there's no reason to extend the 92. It serves the Berwyn Red Line station.
@BurjTransit4 ай бұрын
Currently no, but if there were routes that went express to Hollywood, it could be done to provide a one seat ride to relief points at Sheridan and Hollywood from North Park garage.

I'm not sure why there isn't more discussion (from IDOT, CDOT, CTA, transit activists, etc) about the possibility of BRT stations on the drive itself. Even just two stations would allow easy transfers and thus consolidation to a handful of full-time, much-higher-frequency routes while allowing riders to go directly to the section of lakefront or downtown that they need, outside rush-hour and utilizing less slow/local service to boot. An open BRT system like this takes advantage of LSD in a way that rail can't, at least not without a lot of tunneling for which there's no money or will. The light rail line envisioned here wouldn't service N Michigan Ave, the Loop, nor the West Loop, the crucial downtown destinations for the majority of LSD riders. This video had a lot of excellent points and ideas. I think most Chicagoans underappreciate quite how crucial LSD buses are to the system, I know I did. I think both Lower Wacker and the McCormick busway are underutilized, I like how they got mentions. Nice work and thank you for posting.

Yea the lakefront is more used then the south side but in my opinion they lasalle express routes should run on michigan drive aswell on weekdays and weekends and thru mid day and the 143 and 148 but they don’t have high ridership like the 146 and 147

Can you do a re-do of CTA Green Line Ranking Video because Damen Station just open today

The one huge flaw with taking the 147 off Sheridan and diverting it to the Peterson/Ridge Metra station is that there is no room to stage transit buses at the station with the setup Metra decided to go with for the station's design especially if the buses are articulated as currently primarily the case for the current 147. Trying to work around that brings up a lot of headaches. Ravenswood is too narrow along the west side of the station. The extension of the roadway on the east side of the station has no outlet onto Ridge, and it ends in a roundabout that can only facilitate cars and small paratransit buses. Ridge probably could be used, but you run into the issue of maybe needing to stage buses so far along Ridge that connections with the station becomes rather insufficient from an increased walking distance between buses and the station. If Peterson is used, a balance would need to be figured out a balance to minimize blocking the 84 Peterson bus that already connects with the station. And the last point leads into mitigating the potential blowback from the seniors who live in the highrises next to the station over buses lined up and staging outside their complex all day, seven days a week.

That is a good point. It might make sense to just cut the part to Peterson/Ridge Metra and instead end the route at Bryn Mawr or Thorndale Red Line. Alternatively, the route could go up Clark from Ridge to Devon/Clark.

I wish they would have brought back the 145 Wilson/Michigan Express that used to go down Wilson to Lawrence/Damen. It was a busy route, but cta decided to cannibalize the route in its final years by removing Weekend service, adjusting the hours to am/pm rush periods and making most runs end at the West Sheridan/Lake Shore Drive turnaround. The bus drivers knew that’s what they were planning on doing. I think this route should be revived like the Elston/Clybourn.

Your idea of demolishing Lakeshore drive is interesting, would you be suggesting that drivers would need to rely on Marine drive all the way to downtown?
@BurjTransit4 ай бұрын
If they have to drive then yes, but most people who drive currently would likely switch over to taking public transit.

I think a good comparison is the embarcadero in SF or the west side highway in NY. Both highways being demolished actually reduced traffic in nearby surface streets since there was less traffic choosing that route. The boulevard replacement in SF has more capacity than the previous highway that existed there, since it includes a trolley line

The 192 used to be a contract service between the University of Chicago and private motorcycle carriers until 2005. Back then the Roosevelt CTA station was not served The private carriers used the Dan Ryan between Garfield and Roosevelt. When CTA took over it added Roosevelt it doesn't make sense for this route to go east to Lake Shore Drive especially since the 2 does run to Lake Shore Drive. The primary purpose of the 192 is to p provide a direct connection between the Hospitals and Union and Oglivie Stations. Because the Roosevelt station was added, Michigan and Indiana are the fastest ways of running the route while avoiding traffic on the Dan Ryan and Lake Shore Drive. When the 28 first started running xpress to downtown in 2003, there were trips that did serve the Medical District. However they were discontinued due to low ridership. That means f heis is a b ad idea. The primary reason for the 28 going downtown is to supplement the 6,

Unfortunately I don’t think buses can drive on interstates for some reason, might have something to do with insurance, so the 28 might not work
@BurjTransitАй бұрын
Many out of service buses use the interstates, and many former routes such as the X98, 99, 99M, 162, and 164 used to as well.
