I am very biased, but Western at the very bottom of the list is crazy The bias probably comes from the fact I've lived on the north side my whole life, so that station is by far my most used station on the entire L system

That's so weird that CTA decided to move the artics to Chicago Park and 77th depots, and mostly running on routes 54 Cicero, 53 Pulaski, 20 Madison, 66 Chicago, 79 79th Street, 4 Cottage Grove, and 87 87th from 2020 - 2022

Kinda funny, i just took the 169 yesterday morning. I was planning to take the 392 (still had a couple more transfers to go), but it left early before the 390 I was on arrived, so I had to go a different route

The Yellow line used to run on overhead wires, so the trains that operated on it needed pantographs. Since the roofs of L cars are curved, the racks were added to create a flat surface for the pantographs. I guess once they removed the pantographs, they decided that there was no need to remove the racks.

Bro Metra is not rapid transit, the blue island me branch is single tracked, even if Metra was every 15 min rapid transit would do wonders
@BurjTransit9 күн бұрын
My entire point is that Metra Electric can be turned into rapid transit. The Blue island branch can be double tracked for an extremely low amount of money, though, with the double tracked section at Halsted, you could still run trains about every 20 minutes if you timed everything correctly. A frequency of every 15 minutes isn't set in stone. If a higher frequency is determined to be worthwhile, it's certainly possible to implement (of course you'd have to terminate some trains at 115th). At the end of the day, any issue you may have with Metra Electric as opposed to the L can be solved with far less money and far greater benefit than building the red line extension.

Dedicated BRT lanes in a city like Chicago is a tough proposition, because the area has developed for decades around a different concept. This concept seems to have promise. Hopefully they can make it work right.

The Green Line got demolished due to a pastor not wanting the tracks there since it interrupted his sermons, not the crime. The neighborhood would actually love for the green line to come back to Stony.

I think the Low Line is a slightly humorous play off the well known High Line in Manhattan , which was a repurposed elevated train that was no longer in use.

Unfortunately I don’t think buses can drive on interstates for some reason, might have something to do with insurance, so the 28 might not work
@BurjTransitАй бұрын
Many out of service buses use the interstates, and many former routes such as the X98, 99, 99M, 162, and 164 used to as well.

I would like to point out that the areas around the orange line like Pulaski and Kedzie may seem desolate to those who don't live there, but the areas are very lively during the day. Pulaski in particular is a major transportation hub for the students and staff for the nearby high school! The areas are pretty industrial because the communities living there are made up of mainly working class families, who work in those areas, and rely a lot on the local transportation. Great video though :)
@carstarsarstenstesennАй бұрын
You're both right. There's nothing wrong with industry and working class families, it's just that the immediate area around the stations could have a lot more potential for all the times they do get lively. There could (and should) be a few small businesses and/or services that attract all the foot traffic being generated. It also serves as a way to generate more ridership for the orange line which is heavily dependent on bus connections at the moment. Not saying they're compltely "desolate" but they're not what urban transit stations should be either

As someone who lives near Roosevelt, functionally it is a great station and has much better land use than all of the dedicated Orange Line stations. There are some of the things you mentioned going on there but not 24/7 and as a personal review it is not as bad as the media portrays it.
@carstarsarstenstesennАй бұрын
Agreed. I work right next door and yes, it gets undeniably sketchy at times (usually in the summer) but in general it's not bad enough to make it the worst.

Yellow line when?
@roberthansen20082 ай бұрын
I think the 173 was created because it gave University of Chicago students a chance to go up into the River North and Lakeview areas to hit the bars. That used to be a real busy route when it started. That the students could go hit the bars and party it up and then they can get on the bus and go back to the University of chicago. I think that the ridership just fell off for some reason but I do remember when it started that it was a real busy bus route. It was a bar hopping bus.

You should do a top closed pace routes video. I found an old RTA map (before Metra's fare restructure and before Jan 1 2023) by accident and I saws some of the squiggly-est routes. E.g. Routes 462 - Downer's Grove; 685, 673 - Naperville; 825 - Bolingbrook
