You are sadly mistaken to believe that congestion pricing will help, once they get congestion pricing do you think it will stop them from asking for more money. Regardless I support the mta and think we need more mass transporation on the rail side. But what I dont believe is charging people $20+ to drive in the city, if we pay to fix the roads why should we pay to drive through it again.
@Atrail_Mckinley4786Ай бұрын
@MicahtheDrumCorpsPseudoboomer Because it was about money. It wasn't about reducing traffic. London still has terrible congestion. The MTA's own environmental assessment stated that traffic would increase increase in the Lower East Side, Battery Park City, and neighborhoods along the FDR Drive and West Side Highway. The South Bronx, Northern Manhattan and other areas in the city would've gotten increased pollution. Drivers already pay tolls and taxes for the roads they use. If half of transit riders don't even pay the fare, then why drivers who aren't using the subway or bus have to pay an additional toll that will just increase pollution in other parts of the city? It was bad policy, and the Governor did the right thing. The MTA gets $20 billion a year and they are not fiscally responsible at all. They overspend on projects and cry that they have no money

The Governor did the right thing. Most NYC residents opposed congestion pricing. It would've diverted traffic and pollution in other parts of the city as noted in the assessment. Why should wealthy neighborhoods get a little less pollution but low income communities get worse? Also if half of transit riders don't even pay for the service they use, why should drivers who already pay taxes that go to the MTA and tolls have to pay money for a service they aren't using?. The MTA gets $20 billion a year and it constantly goes to waste. They don't manage their finances and constantly overspend on projects
@micameeee8151Ай бұрын
@@Atrail_Mckinley4786how would congestion divert traffic by any significant amount? What percent of journeys that currently go through the congestion area can be easily routed around it? Think logically for a minute. Look at a map of the congestion area and use your brain. Who is driving into the congestion area? Mostly 9-5 Commuters. What does that mean? THEY CAN'T REROUTE AROUND THE CONGESTION AREA, THEIR DESTINATION IS IN THE CONGESTION AREA. They can either pay the 15 dollars or take the train. It's not like they can't afford it, they're upper middle class suburbanites.

@micameeee8151 Most of the traffic is rideshares. 51% of all traffic is rideshares that drive around empty looking for fares. 38% is private vehicles as noted by the MTA, so it is not commuters in private vehicles that cause the most of the congestion. Congestion would increase outside the zone because people would find ways to evade the toll, such as parking outside the zone, for instance. The MTA's environmental assessment states that traffic would increase in several parts of the city. This was also reported by the press. It makes no sense, nor is it fair that lower income communities like the South Bronx would've gotten worse pollution, but wealthy neighborhoods in Manhattan may get a little less. Tm Also, most people who drive are not rich. These are middle-class and working-class people. You also have some low income individuals who do drive . There are NYCHA residents, especially in Manhattan, who own cars. Most lawsuits against congestion pricing were from people who represented middle and working-class city residents. The rich can easily afford the toll and would benefit the most out of it People like you fail to recognize that not everyone can take public transit. One of the major flaws of the subway system is that most of the lines are centered in Manhattan. They don't go everywhere. Places in Eastern Queens and other parts of the city, for instance, are transit deserts due to limited or unrealiable transit options. It is often quicker and more convenient to drive depending on where someone is coming from or going to instead of taking public transit. It's not difficult to recognize that

And they only measured ridership up to Howard Beach, and did not evaluate the ridership of running the Queenslink M all the way to the Rockaways. And they didn't evaluate the ridership of increased QBL local service either.

Even sandbagged so much, the ridership is still 47k/day for only 3.5 miles of restored rail, which is still very good per mile. More subway lines need to be de-interlined, such as the junction at DeKalb Ave or the three bottlenecks along the 5. Also, when Queenslink gets built, it’s an opportunity to put the unused express tracks on the Rockaway Line back to use.
@the-renegadeАй бұрын
@@anonymous3738 Yeah, let’s bypass JFK Airport and sink billions into a line that takes you directly to the Rockaways instead-because that’s clearly where all the demand is, right? The MTA has already made it clear that infrastructure upgrades like CBTC and other changes will do far more to enhance service efficiency than some magical “de-interlining” plan. De-interlining isn’t the serious solution you're making it out to be-it's a logistical nightmare, not a quick fix for improving service. And about those “unused express tracks on the Rockaway Line”-using them doesn’t suddenly generate the ridership needed to justify such a massive project. The demand just isn’t there, and the MTA’s feasibility studies back this up with hard data. Real improvements are about optimizing what already works, not pie-in-the-sky ideas like QueensLink.

@@the-renegade Once again, the MTA strawmanned the entire Rockaway Beach Branch proposal. They used 4 tph for the entire line, ended it at Howard Beach, and did not take into account ridership from the Rockaways. Even with this ridiculous straw man, the MTA calculated 47k riders, which is more than some branch lines out in the Bronx and Queens. So if you evaluate it normally, you can get 60k, 70k, 80k riders.
@the-renegadeАй бұрын
@@jointransitassociation Tech Transit Association, huh? It's been a while, heh. Your argument that the MTA “strawmanned” the Rockaway Beach Branch proposal by using 4 trains per hour (tph) and ending it at Howard Beach oversimplifies the complexity of transit planning. While the MTA did estimate a ridership of 47,000, this figure was based on comprehensive studies of the existing travel patterns and potential demand. While it's true that some branch lines in the Bronx and Queens serve fewer riders, the value of a transit project isn't solely determined by comparing raw numbers. The capital expenditure, operational challenges, and projected growth for areas like the Rockaways are distinct, and those factors contribute to the final assessment. The claim that the MTA deliberately ignored ridership from the Rockaways to artificially deflate the numbers is debatable. Even with that 47,000 figure, which may seem conservative, it reflects a legitimate analysis of how much ridership the extension could realistically attract based on population density and commuting patterns. The suggestion that re-evaluating the line “normally” could yield 60,000 to 80,000 riders isn't based on concrete evidence or rigorous modeling. The MTA's methodology, whether criticized or not, involves analyzing numerous variables beyond just adding more tph. Additionally, the focus should be on whether this investment makes sense in the broader context of New York City's transit needs. The MTA has other pressing priorities, including projects with larger potential ridership like the Interborough Express, which could serve significantly more commuters for a comparable cost. The argument shouldn't center on increasing the ridership estimate to justify the project, but rather on assessing if QueensLink offers the most efficient and effective use of resources given the city's broader transit landscape.

@@the-renegade You have said absolutely nothing, completely dodging the fact that the MTA used 4 tph for the entire line. Queenslink asked the MTA on their supposed "comprehensive" methods, and this is the response. "The Systra study modeled 10-minute headways, diverting 6 trains per hour from existing QBL service. Further analysis by NYCT showed that only 4 trains per hour could be diverted without negatively impacting capacity on the QBL line, and thus 15-minute headways were used in the CE model." Ridership is heavily correlated with service. Very few people are willing to wait 15 minutes for a train during rush hour. Therefore, the calculated ridership is going to be lower. They also did not consider boosting QBL local service, which would allow the RBB to run more trains. Again, this was the response on whether the MTA factored in extending the G to Forest Hills so that riders at 67th Ave would still see the same amount of trains per hour. "This consideration was not included in the 2045 Baseline scenario or with RBB." As you can see here, this supposed "comprehensive studies of existing travel patterns and potential demand, reflecting legitimate analysis" is flawed. No thought was given to improving QBL local service, and no thought was given to the fact that the RBB can run more than 4 tph. And definitely no thought was given to the fact that the RBB can run past Howard Beach and into the Rockaways, as shown by maps provided by the 20 Years Needs Assessment. The MTA did not evaluate Queenslink. They evaluated an airport link to JFK at best. And even so, its ridership numbers surpasses some lines out in the Bronx and Queens, and will vie higher if the MTA chooses to evaluate Queenslink normally. So yes, Queenslink makes sense in the context of New York City's transit needs.

Portions of the F Line between Kew Gardens and 21-Queensbridge and between Ditmas Avenue and West 8 St, it has modernized Signaling. The 63rd Street tubes had their concrete slabs and tracks replaced. Although they’re still working on modernizing Signals east of Union Tpke, and on the G Line from Church Avenue to Bergen Street which affects the F Line.

Here's a plan, get rid of all the tracks, raise the track bed, pave it over and have electric articulated buses run underground. The reason subways and light rail gets you around so fast is it's a separate grade from all other traffic, it's 100% dedicated to the vehicles authorized to use those right of ways. Hey, I love trains, grew up riding the subways, but they are dangerous, very expensive to maintain and run no better than they did 100 years ago. When I saw it took as much money to build the 2nd Av subway as it took to build the entire IRT subway system (adjusted for inflation), I realized there's no way this form of transportation is sustainable.
@TSgotstolengoddammАй бұрын
I cant tell if you are joking but if you arent heres a tldr why rail is the way to go: building rail is expensive but an investment Trains can go way faster and need less maintainence Trains have capacity advantage as you can string them together Busses are extremely expensive to maintain Roads are even more expensive to maintain in the long run Ebuses need time to charge aka inefficent
