Had a goose as a kid till a snake go it.. till then it owned the yard.. Had 3 dgs as well and they knew who ran the yard and it was not them.. It would spread it's wings and chase them to make sure they knew who ran the place..

Why do these stories always have mosquitos making sounds? They don't make sounds, even the larger mosquito hawks.

Because the do make sounds. It's just with their wings. And it's how some kinds attract mates. The buzz of mosquitos is will known by most of most victims of bites.

Sounds like you never came across one personally. They do make noise. It's buzzing which is also high pitched.

Not true... If a mosquito is within about 8in of your head, you can feel the vibrations of their wings within your inner ear which translates vibration to sound... So yes, they do make noise.

You've either never been near a mosquito or you need to have your hearing checked.

Mosquitos do indeed make sounds. Ever heard that little bzzzzt sound around your ears? Having lived in south Florida for the last 15 years, I can tell you that mosquitos will hunt you down and dive bomb your ears.
