The Galtymore Cricklewood, London

For countless thousands of Irish emigrants to London during the 20th century the Galtymore in Cricklewood was more than just a dance-hall. It was a ‘home from home’, a piece of Ireland where each weekend they could meet Irish friends from all over London, hear the music from the Irish country and showband scene and, better still, get to see the showband stars in person

We played support to Big Tom that closing night,Final Touch,Mary and Shaun.Unbelievable night,the crowd was just something else.

Very sad that it’s gone. I know it’s been gone a good while now, but still miss it. We use to go to Ashtons next door and then head into The Galtymore for the last part of night. Great times. I have good memories that’ll last a lifetime of nights out there.

Ist date I had when I came to London London form Scotland was here. It and the national became regular haunts for a couple of years. Great memories 🎉

Used to go the Galtymore regular in the late 70s, few beers in the crown, rare up in the galtee, kebabs on Cricklewood Broadway, 4am milk train back to Luton.
