Paramount's response to the massive wave of criticism the first trailer for the previous movie got should be commended. They never called their audience names or ran a smear campaign against them. They never claimed to be morally superior to them. Instead they changed course and committed to that course change. They hired the most beloved Sonic animator to direct the change in animation style and never looked back. Now look a this next movie! They've clearly got tons of people on staff both doing animation, props, and in the writers room who love Sonic the Hedgehog. Instead of lashing out at their fans they embraced them and the result is a product people actually want! Who would have thought?

They did say themselves that the original plan was to change the design because, and I'm not joking cause again they said so themselves, that's what hollywood does and they didn't care about alienating og fans but only cared about gathering a new and bigger audience. They already knew the design wasn't gonna fly with fans but didn't care, what they didn't expect though was EVERYONE not liking that design so given the little time they could afford they just went for the tried and true design and thankfully that's the one that stuck. As the OP said it's commendable yes but at the same time they only did because the response was so overwhelmingly negative they had little choice, it was either that or crash and burn. But it is indeed commendable because so many projects to this day still prefer to crash and burn instead of pulling back and realizing they're doing something wrong

It's not even the only scene that gives off Adventure vibes, as the trailer pretty much starts the same way as Sonic's campaign does in that game (overlooking the city at night on a rooftop with a police chase crossing by with Sonic going after the cause) and with how much the temple at 5:06 resembles the one in Mystic Ruins it becomes pretty hard to believe it's coincidental, especially since Pachacamac is supposed to be the leader of the Echidna tribe that chased Sonic in the first film.
