I get that not all gaming groups are as 'friendly' with table talk, but I just watched you guys laugh your asses off (and throw in a little risque humour) for 30 minutes playing a game where you count up from 1 and down from 100. That is a successful filler game in my books. In my opinion, turning this into a taciturn game with minimal talking to avoid "cheating" would eviscerate any spirit in this game and make it a pointless exercise. Thanks very much for the video. If it's relatively inexpensive when it comes to my FLGS, I'll definitely pick it up.

fitz33 I think IF a group attempted to play this silently it would soon erupt into shouting as people get frustrated that other people mess their plays - could be more fun I am certain this game has been done before with a traditional card deck? Much like the Clubs game is President/Sh!thead I think this is possibly a BETTER game than Hanabi which is its nearest comparison as you have more limited options and people will be more tolerant of plays which are not that great...its almost beautifully simple I have to agree that the comments on the artwork were spot on...this needed a cartoon-y 6 Nimmt kind of look - maybe the designers were trying to avoid that as it would lead to comparisons Oh a 200( how many cards were there?) card deck should not cost much - if it does its a rip-off

The rules specifically state that all communication is allowed besides saying concrete numbers to each other. "don't play on that pile" or "don't make too big of a jump on that pile" are allowed and encouraged. So saying "I love that pile" is fine because here is no actual number being said.
@LS-Moto6 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it shouldn't be said in a way, that it implicates what exactly you are going to do. Saying "I looooooovvvveee this pile" immidiately indicates that you can lift/drop the pile.
@emberassington6 жыл бұрын
The way they are saying it does communicate an exact number. (when he says he LOVES the pile with 43 on top, he's clearly communicating to the table that he has 53 in his hand) I'm pretty sure that's against the spirit of the rules.
@LS-Moto6 жыл бұрын
@@emberassington I believe all he should have said was please do not play on this pile. That would either indicate that he has a 42, or that he can bounce the pile back up.
@TheNathanlockhart4 жыл бұрын
@@emberassington My belief is to look at it this way. If somebody you didn't know, but who knows how the game is played walked up on the table, and based on the comment KNEW what number you had, it's illegal. Otherwise it's okay. For instance, saying "I can bounce that back" tells any knowing observer you have the card 10 removed in the other direction. Similar with something like "I'm adjacent to that" or "I'm as close as possible to that" would be illegal. But "I love that" could be interpreted by an outside observer as a bump back, an adjacent number, or something one or two away. My problem with most of these games is that they don't address what happens when somebody cheats, accidentally or otherwise. It almost inevitably happens in the middle of the game, and what do you do? Just muck the game and start over?
@letartean Жыл бұрын
@@LS-Moto why else would you say “don’t play on that pile” specifically instead of “don’t move that pile too much”? Change the first for “love” and the second for “like” and you’re essentially at the same place. The only thing you’re not differentiating is the occasion where you can play the exact next number and the one where you can bring it back by then. Anyway, both are great and if you say “don’t play on that pile” no one should play unless it’s because they can bring it back 10. TL:DR: love/like is not much different from what the rules say explicitly.

The big difference with Hanabi is that Hanabi restricts what you can tell. Choose a player and a type (color or height) and you must tell that player which cards of his hand are of that type. You only have a limited set of codes available. In The Game you're only forbidden to use numbers but you have the full dictionary available to build more codes than you need.

The rules specifically say: “you can say don’t play on that pile”. To me, this says clearly that you can communicate that you have the number to make it go back and the game was played as intented. I agree with Dave that, after that, it’s a thing to consider to evaluate whether you like the game or not, but it’s not cheating.

This is a cooperative card game in which players wish to play cards in a certain order like Hannabi. That is where the similarity ends. I can see why this was nominated. The name does leave much to be desired. (The name reminds me of The Guild) As for the artwork, I am sure that Frank Castle and the Venture Brothers approve.

what happens if one player is out of cards and it is his turn to play (the other players still have cards)?
@LS-Moto6 жыл бұрын
Doesn't happen. If he is out of cards, and everyone around the table gets their cards off, then the game is beaten. Every player has the same amount of cards at all times, so it doesn't happen that one player gets rid of his cards few rounds prior.
@monkeyunit45335 жыл бұрын
@@LS-Moto It can happen, once the draw pile is empty, players have to play at least 1 each turn but can play more. SO you can empty your entire hand of 6 cards and not be able to refill. My guess is you simply skipp that player because they are done.
@LS-Moto5 жыл бұрын

I think the way you guys played is fair. I think the rules are saying not to say something like this: "There is a 78 on the table, don't play there because I have the 77 and 75!" That, to me, is cheating, but you guys didn't in anyway play like that. Saying you like a pile is still pretty vague which is completely fine and fair.

Without any mitigation on the starting hand it's hard. You can always bounce one pile back up, but I don't like this. The "love" thing is also silly. Every game where you cannot say out loud something devolves into this, it's better to just allow saying "I can bounce this". Nice gameplay anyway!
@LS-Moto6 жыл бұрын
Not really. Saying you love a pile only implicates, that either you can bounce it, or you cards within the same number dimension. Of course you shouldn't overdo it with the " I loooooovvvee this pile"... as this dictates what your ambition is.

If "I love" means "I got 10 away", it just literally becomes an alias for the same phrase, its like "I love" means "10 away" in some made up language. How about a house rule where you cant use the same phrase twice in a game? So it encourages you to think of how to describe what you are trying to say, i.e. encourages communication. You can say "I love this pile" once, but next time you gotta come up with some other way to describe it. The Mind is a much better game than this, and The Mind isnt even that amazing.
