Absolutely agree on your opinion on Overdose. I thought I was the only one at the time when it was released. I wanted to like it, but it really did feel like a step down from the first Gungrave. It had potential to build on the first game, but it feels like they fell into the sequel trap that was: "just make everything bigger, more characters, and more enemies". Without really thinking about what made the 1st Gungrave great.

The entire time I was playing it last year I was just constantly reminding myself of how I could have beaten the first game by now and been done with this already. I didn't even finish overdose. Those final few levels are so obnoxiously bad.

Just finished trigun(1998), trigun maximum, and trigun stampede and now im obsessed, also finished gungrave multiple times and I LOVE this game so much. Played gore and I really wish they pulled a newblood and made it in cell shaded psx graphics. And honestly a short repayable game dripping with style and really fun gameplay instead of a long game with padding that most would quit ironically making the game shorter for them with less enjoyment.

The best description of the destruction in a John Wu film I've ever heard is "A 100 page book exploding into 200 loose sheets of paper" Its pure chaos, and gets across the chaos of a gunfight, without explicitly showing people getting shot. Now, of course, you still get those shots of people flying back from bullet wounds, but its the enviroment that make the style work. Anyone can make a game where you shoot dudes and they die, but it takes much more effort to make a game that conveys chaos of a shootout

I genuinely will never understand your opinion on Gungrave vs Gungrave Overdose and I wanna explain why if you'll hear me out. "Fixing what isn't broken" feels like a statement I cannot agree with, to me Overdose fixed everything wrong with the first Gungrave. The first game was too short and the boss fights in it's late game were too frustrating, meanwhile Overdose is a better length overall and none of it's bosses were frustrating when compared to the original. Only thing I can agree on is that I do think Overdose's beginning tutorial was stupidly hand holdy but outside of that, everything was more fun for me then it was in the original game.

I have no idea how people dont know this, but pressing L3 makes you run faster while shooting. It makes the bosses way more fun, and rebinding it to R2 in an emulator turns it from a good but sluggish game, to godmode badass action game immediately.

I recall beating Gungrave OD on very hard difficulty for all 3 characters when it came out on PS2. I think mastering strafe shooting is the main way to get through the difficult sections you had.

I recently bought the switch port of Gungrave G.O.R.E. and it's an interesting ride. It has more characters to use through the whole game, including Billy from OD. Point gains seem to be rebalanced. Each character still has the padding stat tree though. While the visuals during gameplay are understandable less impressive, the game still runs really well.

Im still confused about the Gore complaints in 1.0 I didnt have much issue AT ALL, until the last two levels whete the enemies are too hard and i have to assume i needed to max out way more stats. I ended up switching to easy mode and didnt have any problems

I'll be glad to play all 3 of the games one day (VR doesn't count)... I'm autistic so the grind/the routine that you see in Overdose wouldn't be that bad for me (also, I heard people liking it, like Kim Justice for exemple)... At least it's a better game than GUILTY GEAR OVERT[Gets cutted by "Diva" from Guilty Gear Overture]. Perhaps they could make the lady actually fun to play in the next patches, who knows. Nice compilation, still waiting for the 5 hours long (at maximum) Yakuza 3 video and a eventual Guilty Gear retrospective where you wil only play Overure in its entierty (like a TRUE critic/chronicler) if you are given 1000$ or something like that.

Kanbane is usually braking something in the room so it plays a sound effect before he talks because of how low patience he is. I thought Overdose played worse, but overall was campy asf and still over the top bleeds cool ideas. Color me a masochist, and being a sucker for punishment, but as much as I loved Gungrave 1, Overdose tickled my adhd for trying for a "coolest" moment because it fills your deathshot so fast that you can fill the screen with nonsensical retard hallucinations of hyper violence. It was cash. PS, Never auto aim. unless full auto to only build meter and breathe. Molest your thumb with the struggle and bathe in the post level digit rub of victory. ...oh yeah, homie. GORE is tight asf. Its a def a Gungrave game.

You're right, that filter isn't cel-shading. That said, the original game isn't actually cel-shaded either (save for the cutscenes), but the filter still fails at capturing both the look and feel of the original.

Yeah, publishers need to change how physical releases are done. With how many patches is needed, a physical copy now has no benefit. They should do what metroid prime did and release the physical after the digital copy has been released. Cause for games like Gungrave Gore, why? Just, why?

Gungrave G.O.R.E was just so blatantly unfinished I couldn’t do it. The investors definitely made the “get this the fuck out the door, we’re not giving you anymore time” call. It’s not a case of the reviewers “just not getting it”, it’s not good. There’s better games that capture that PS2 action feel that are actually worth your money like Evil West.

Gungrave GORE kinda looked much better on my Ps4 Pro than on my PS5. Maybe it's just me. But still. Lol. Just fans can play this game which is free on Ps Plus Extra. But put on easy mode,auto mode and just walk through the levels to know the story and watch those pre rendered scenes,treat like a play through anime to have fun. This was one of the top 5 worst game released that year.
