I dont think marathon was on the doom engine at all, it can do room over room and its physics and movement feel pretty different. I'm pretty sure its just an in house engine of theirs similar to doom but not directly connected to id tech compared to something like quake to half life

I looked back through my sources and your right. I miss read a sentence claiming that it was "built on an engine superiors to doom" as "built on a superior version of the doom engine" oops.
