I remember this game I was so frustrated everytime time Melo hits a shot. He was so aggressive both offense and defense. I love the competition between him and Kobe but Melo is really pain in the ass who always managed every shot inside/out of the court like it always favor in him, he made the game very exciting and breathtaking. Melo has to be the most criminally underrated player of all time. He's one of the greatest scorers in history, is easily top 40 (arguably 30) on an all-time player list and was second to only LeBron in most offensive stat categories out of active players (before he retired). People say Kobe, Ariza, and Odom were good-to-great defensive players and rebounders for their size. Melo makes them, as a team, look subpar. Just a beast in the post and on the glass. I miss this era of the game. It was the playoffs so the defensive physicality went way up. This game was just as physical as the 90s era but way more fast paced too, so best of both worlds. Everyone was running the floor, fighting through screens, getting bumped 20 times a possession. Just look at Kobe and Melo defending each other in the post, the constant fighting over position with melo trying to front him and kobe having to fight to get back underneath without committing an offensive foul, it was brutal and incredible to watch. If Carmelo played this way ALL throughout his tenure with the Knicks, I think we'd be talking about him today with much more reverence and adoration, instead of thinking he was a short-lived, one dimensional player. If you ask people about Carmelo today, a lot of people will say he was overrated. But it's impossible to think that when you watch this version of him.

Facts. This is back when the league would stash defenders for guys like Kobe, Melo and etc. Guys made careers off of playing quality defense against those caliber of scorers. Once the NBA took physicality out of the game to cater to scoring, the competitive drive dipped, and so has the product. & The paragraph about Melo is very accurate.
