This really takes me back. I remember when a good friend of mine showed me this exact trailer. I'm just so relieved that Somnus (the theme playing in this trailer) at least made it into XV proper. It's an absolutely gorgeous piece of music!

The game that never was indeed, haha. I remember being a kid reading gaming magazines, seeing articles on Versus, and being SO excited! I didn't have any Sony systems growing up, so my main exposure to FF games past 6 was magazines and the occasional video, and the idea of a game like that had me so excited. And I was actually quite a big fan of 15 when that came out too! It definitely wasn't the game we were getting from those Versus trailers or teasers, but I still liked Noctis all the same, I loved the vibes of the game, and the story was fun to experience!

Yoko Shimomura composed the soundtrack for Final Fantasy XV and the song that played during the Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer was reworked as the song, Somnus from Final Fantasy XV (that's what it sounded like to me anyway). I think Noctis is Tetsuya Nomura's self insert character. Nomura even had that hairstyle at one point. xD There is more footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII featuring a female character named Stella who I always thought was the realistic version of Namine. Tetsuya Nomura has a type and he is based for it! ;)

Hi cyrus! Versus 13 was and still is one of the most interesting canceled videogames ever, i don't like nomura and final fantasy but i still think it's super cool, especially the long trailer with bits of (fake) gameplay! Nice video as always!

Thanks so much! Yes, it is very interesting. Especially considering the pedigree of those involved. Just goes to show that even the most genius of minds all have projects and ideas that never see the light of day.

And yet the ghosts of Versus XIII will live on in Qudratum in the future of Kingdom Hearts. Nomura never abandons his projects apparently. xD In other news: Holy crap Daybreak II is coming out on Valentine's Day 2025. The hope for a Fall/Winter 2025 release for Kai remains strong!

I can confirm kh3 secret ending does have motif of that song witch is called Somnus i don't know if i changed in 15 but sounds samevim gonna assume doesn't change 2 things to note noctis and luna did not have re design cuz they were so popular so keep them same i cant wait for your friend to see this im very excited for yozora i hope it versus 13 remake hes been itching for fantastic reaction good sir 🫡

The original vision was way darker it seems. i think FF15 royal edition is a good FF game. The vanilla left a lot to be desired.
