Incredibly excited for this product, and I'm especially impressed with the app calibration and customizability. Having a second z-button is awesome, but I would love to see the z buttons come in default purple. Excited to see gateplates with wavedash or firefox angles. For how true this controller stays to the original, it is a little odd that a transparent default control stick is a stretch goal. Dual rumble and gyroscope is very cool as well. I'm a little scared that I don't have a price estimate yet, but I'm hoping the kickstarter will be at a discount. I am super impressed every single time that you've managed to introduce a great version of a feature that everyone wants, *and* somehow kept things compatible with old parts or versions of things. It's such a hard engineering constraint yet you've managed to continuously thread the needle on *everything* with the GC Ultimate. And the areas where you break with convention make sense, such as the thumbstick caps obviously needing to be different for different kinds of stick modules. Reading and seeing the development on Twitter and Discord has been an absolute blast. A+ product development through and through.

I personally don't mind whether or not there is splitpad or not. I don't think it'll hinder anything for me. Honestly I like the idea of the extra precision if anything since the gamecube d-pad is kinda small and a secondary thing you don't use regularly. I never found the original to be very precise so if anything I believe the split pad is a welcome addition and I can't wait to feel it. 👀

This is incredible! Truly the ultimate GameCube controller with its calibration options! While I do appreciate the right stickbox being replaceable, do you plan the same for the left stickbox? The left stickbox seems to be soldered on and not everyone knows how to solder in case replacement is needed due to wear and tear. Also, having easy access to the stickbox internals for cleaning and re-lubrication purposes would be great but I know that's beyond your control. I'm interested, but the GC shell doesn't seem to match the OEM shell quite right. For example, there doesn't seem to be a pronounced circular bump centred around the "A" button like on the original controller. Additionally, the divot around the D-pad is soft instead of having a defined edge like the original. Are these differences planned to be addressed? If so, I'll back one immediately!

This is so cool! A couple questions (for the use case of only ever playing on gamecube/wii): - is the battery needed for the rgb if it's plugged directly into the console? - will there be an elegant way to remove/disable the left z button (such as including a cap that can't move, or one you can print yourself) - do oem sticks fit (gray and c-stick)? I'd assume yes but you didn't explicitly state it
@MitchCairns5 ай бұрын
- Battery is not required for operation over wire (same with RGB) - No, but that's a fun idea and developing a printable cap should not be a huge hassle (I don't have plans, but 3d files are on github) - No they don't, because those stickboxes are a different height among other things. We have a stretch goal to create new sticks that would resemble the original style

Do we have to build this ourselves or will there be a possible backing option for prebuilt?

It's a DIY build kit! No soldering required.

@HandheldLegend Why are you not using spring loaded connectors for the right thumbstick?

@@geranmannberg I've played with such connectors already. The connectors tend to be sort of fragile and while they can be good for some assemblies I don't think it's a good idea here. I have some test setups I've done with the spring-loaded interconnects and I was not happy with the results

any chance of the USB-C port being put on a sub-PCB on a future revision? replacing broken ports is kinda of a pain when you're only option is to solder on a new port.

It was tested and found to cause connection issues on more units (higher defect rate)

Maybe in the future I'm open to looking into this again, but it's very difficult to maintain the kind of integrity that I want with the USB connection while also using a connector type that isn't error prone or causes other headaches
