I wish more reviewers would cover the details like you do. Your close ups, calibration tests w/ dead zone analysis, comparisons, and everything else combined. Seriously, it might not seem difficult but most reviewers seem to either be lazy and want to post their videos so quickly that they cut a lot of corners. Others seem to have an agenda, probably getting free items for positive reviews, and focus on the pros while minimizing the cons as much as possible without blatantly losing all of their credibility. Your reviews are the best. Unbiased and very thorough. Thank you.

The main drawback of a detailed video is how long they are. Most people want short shitty videos. A few of us will sit through an hour long teardown, though!

Everything about this controller, save for the turbo/macro, would have made it the perfect controller for Smash Ultimate, especially since the Panda controller was cancelled: 1. Hall effect joysticks. 2. Digital shoulder buttons. 3. Wireless. 4. GameCube layout. I almost bought one myself, but had been holding out in hopes that a competent KZbinr would give them a proper review. I am very thankful for your review, you get into every aspect of the controller and spare no criticisms. Other content creators could learn a LOT from you! Thank you so much for the video!

In an interview from Kevin Kenson with Shank Mods, nyxi did reach out to Shank to ask on his opinions on the design and feels of the controller, he advised them to get an original GC controller bc the CAD he received look trash but instead of getting the real original those guys only got third-party which explain why the buttons and grip are horrendous on this

Horrendous is a bit extreme, IMO, but they definitely “aren’t good.” It’s disappointing that the potential to make this controller feel premium was there, and so close to becoming a reality. Smart start to reach out to Shank for advice, and also a respectable move. They blew it by disregarding the importance of using an OEM for reference, especially after asking for and receiving good advice. Opting for LEDs instead of focusing on the functionality of the face buttons seems pretty par for the course with these third party companies. Such a bummer.

@@No1Noz Those LEDs bother me so much. Before I learned that they can be turned off, I physically blocked them inside so that I can play in peace. I also think that the clicky buttons is a terrible call. Very not GameCube.

You hit the nail on the head with the grip.. I haven’t used a GC controller in over 10 years but still felt like something was missing. My middle fingers have to be spread across the back. Causes a lot of cramping.

I wish they has more properly imitated the WaveBird, but I'm happy enough with it that I'm keeping it. I hope that they listen to these complaints, and fix the issues in the third batch.

Actually, your original indigo gamecube controller needs some restorations. And also that yellow stuff can be removed by using hydrogen peroxide. And it also needs a new thumb stick and a c stick

MadCatz survived for a bit longer than you think; they switched to fighting game joysticks and PC accessories after the GameCube era, which were well received by players. They went out of business after making a poor decision to make Rock Band 4 accessories where they completely misread the market and made too much. However, they got brought back as a result of getting bailed out by a Chinese company and continue business to this day.

I liked the controller but I have major issues with the bumpers... I don't like how they feel. (clicky with no travel at all) and the controller feels a bit light and hollow for its size. I love the idea of playing smash in the go, but id rather plug my OG GC controller. the vibration is also really loud so I turned it off. it's a good first attempt but this control still has ways to go.

My friend and I ordered this controller and got it in the mail last week. We both noticed random movements and button presses when we aren’t even holding the controller. I wrote to Nyxi and have not received a response.

This is not the first time I've read a complaint about this. Maybe it's something that can be fixed by a firmware update. It's not something that is effecting every unit, best as I can tell. It would be a shame if quality control is what spells the end for this controller.

Halfway the video and I agree with everything except for the dpad.. It does “feel” nice, actually great, but it is way too easy to hit all 4 directions. When I press to the right on Tetris 99 it often causes a hard drop by accidentally hitting the up switch. Still works well for special moves in fighters, but diagonal jumps are hit and miss. Also, try playing a shooter or beat ‘em up with the dpad and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. I’m going to try to mod it with a pivot, and if necessary replace the switches.

Well I've seen worse dpads so it's definetly a step in the right direction, especially when compared with the previous controllers from nyxi those have horrible dpads

I felt that the D-Pad is the highest quality part of this controller, but I don't actually game with it, so yeah... Heh. It feels so right, though. I wish all of the other buttons (except for the action buttons) used the same switches.

I'm always worried about firmware updates. Did you get the first batch, or had their been a firmware update since the second batch? Let us know if you experience any issues from the update. Mine are behaving just fine, so I'm not updating a thing!

@@CarrotsNotCake I just noticed this comment today. For me, the firmware update seemed to fix an issue. Mine was from the first wave of orders and initially the left thumbstick would randomly wig out and lose it’s calibration. I couldn’t figure out what caused it. I can’t say for certain if the update was the solution, but since then I haven’t had any problems at. It definitely didn’t hurt, but if your controller works perfectly I wouldn’t bother. If yours came in the second wave I’m guessing it was already implemented. It gave those individual usb-c ports an actual purpose since I never use them for charging. 👍

@@CarrotsNotCake they seem to be invested in improving the Wizard. I received an email with a questionnaire about the things customers would like to see in a future release. They seemed to ask about the essentials and some potentially unnecessary options, so I really hope they listen to the right people and implement better face buttons and add a central pivot to the dpad. It would be nice if they were to do a complete redesign to make a little more room for the middle fingers in the back and slightly adjust the position of the back buttons. It would also be cool if they simply implemented remappable buttons instead of only macro recordings. Have you seen the Binbok, or Doyoky version of GameCube JoyCon that are out now? They have a different design, with a black charging rail and seem to use membranes on their shoulder buttons and dpad as opposed to mechanical switches. Drip Media Gaming has a video on them. He says the dpad is great, the face/shoulder buttons “feel fine” and that they use the basic ALPS analog sticks. I’m assuming the quality in on par with their other products but I think the ergonomics of the Binbok/Dokoky GameCube JoyCon look better than the Wizard. They are a bit wobbly on the rails though. I’m curious what you think. Let me know your thoughts…

​@@No1Noz Yep yep! I got the same email. I could totally see most of the feedback being about them having more non-GameCube options, and then going with that. That'd be terrible. Hopefully they pick out the more... us feedback. People that really want it to succeed, and want it to succeed as a GameCube JoyCon, not as a l33t gamer JoyCon. They should totally do a redesign! They'd be fools not to. I have no wants from the back buttons since I don't use them, but I've seen others have that same request about the back buttons. Yeah... -triggered- I've been following that for months. They've been great about answering my questions... but now they're sending out controllers to different channels, so the controller is ready... right? But it's not shipping to anyone that's purchased them. So... yeah, annoying. I'm very hopeful about Doyoky's. I don't want to put the cart before the horse, so I'm going to avoid sharing opinions on it until I use it. If I get it, I'll report back!

I noted the same difference with finger placement, but when compared directly to a WaveBird kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5WqdIiapZV7arM it's really not a major difference. For what they are, I'm super into them. But, yeah, the slight differences that I noted could've easily been avoided. It's a shame. I'm hoping for changes in the third batch!

Keep us posted on that A-button situation; definitely want to see if it can be replaced, then it won't sink into the controller casing! Maybe someone can 3D print one?

Oh, it's totally remediable. It's just a matter of having the equipment to 3D print it. All they had to do was copy the GameCube design, but nooo. I compared the button pieces on the WaveBird to Nyxi's, and the differences are really apparent side by side. So close! Hopefully they make it again, but with revisions.

@@CarrotsNotCake being that the layout is still very similar to original Game Cube, what are your thoughts on still attempting the use of OEM membranes and if the buttons are (hopefully) too thin, as opposed to being too thick, something could be added to their base to thicken them. Hmmm.. I will check your video out tonight.
