Man, this really speaks to me, especially the last quote about dwelling on the canceled games. Im a dumpsterfire of canceled games and fangames. The feeling i kept getting when the development of a project ceased was and is immense. My game im working on alone has a treasure trove of canned ideas that I still have saved either in my newer google doc/drive setup or in physical media. Thank you

As a fighting game enthusiast, the cancelled "Capcom Fighting All-Stars" as well as the promised but never started "Tekken X Street Fighter" are the most heart-shattering stories of this kind for me, personally.

With how you go with this video as well as how you talked about mysteries revolving around Ocarina of Time & Mario 64, I was expecting it to go into unreleased games that are shrouded in mystery. One example I can think of the elusive Mad for the Commodore 64, which had music from Adam Gilmore; only 3 SID files are known to have surfaced of this supposed game, with nothing else known about it. We have no idea on who was the developer or who was the publisher. I mean, could it have been for a tech demo? The demoscene WAS a thing on European computers after all. We'll probably never know. Or heck, there's prototypes for 2 Activision Atari 2600 games & the games' programmers are currently unidentified. One of them is Hard Head, which is a game where you're a 2-legged blob who uses its head to bop boxes up. The other we don't even have a name for & it's a block sliding puzzle game. Another mysterious unreleased Atari 2600 game is a tank game from a developer known as JimsToy. Said tank game is the only thing from this developer that we even know of so far & nothing else has surfaced about the game or its developer. Fred Gasking owns a website called Games That Weren't & it has its own subsite about C64 games called Games That Weren't 64 & in it there are several games of which we have no known developer or really any known person attached to it. Some examples include Raz, A.P.E.X., Axeman, Empire Vision, Deep in Space, Crazy, Sagan om ringen, Who Fried My Concorde, Temple of Medom, The Old World, City Warriors, Brix, Altarius, Sword of Twilight, Spectral Sneer, La Vengaza de Toro, Mafia Warz, etc.

John Romero's Daikatana was also meant to be an ID1 engine game until he saw Quake 2; he then said "i want what they are having" and the game fell into development hell only to end up as a really mixed game. The GB version of Daikatana is actually very good.

I love videos talking about beta versions of games so this was right up my alley. I love how you were able to seamlessly move from one topic to another and make it feel natural, and that bit at the end talking about how it's better to look forward than to lament on the past was actually pretty touching. I always appreciate your sense of humor and line delivery too, great video.

I'm still waiting on an opportunity to play Twelve Tales/Conker 64/Conker's Quest/whatever the hell is it would have been called. I doubt it would live up to the hype of having the opportunity in the first place, but there's just something so damn whimsical about it, and if nothing else it'd be an excuse to just lose myself in the era of games I grew up one more time.

What people often forget is that cut content, in most cases atleast, was cut for a reason. I'd argue most games benefit from it but we always want to imagine what could have been and think that more is always better. Look at majoras mask for example, originally it was supposed to have a 7 day cycle which at first sounds cool and like there would be a ton of content. But now remember how much waiting around there already is with the 3 day cycle and how easy you can mess up a quest only to restart it from day 1, repeating the waiting time. Not to mention how tense everything is with the 3 day limit, in a first playthrough you sometimes feel like you are always unsure if you can finish the dungeon if you don't enter at day 1, with 7 days this feeling would be completely lost. Hell who knows if you would have any urgency in the main quest at all. Another one would be shadow of the colossus, the plan was to have 48 Colossus in the game, surely wouldn't have replayed and mastered that game with that many of them, it would just take ages and most people would lose interest after that much repetition.

Dinosaur Planet Restoration Project has made amazing progress. I wish more people knew about it.
@robbiewalker28319 ай бұрын
Maybe StarFox Adventures was the reason the StarFox series never continued properly, because it’s association with replacing Dinosuar Planet’s original storyline lead a self-controversial division. At least with Doki Doki Panic, it’s possible that Nintendo was in the middle of creating a different version of Mario 2, before being commissioned by Fuji TV to release a game to help promote the Yume Kojo event. The same can’t be said about StarFox, though.

The leaked ROM of Star Fox 2 was not the final version, and this was known at the time. The finished game was never available at all until the official release. If memory serves, there's an old interview of a dev of a different Star Fox game where he stated that he was able to play the finished version privately to help with development.

Man, I remember that Space World Zelda tech demo like it was yesterday, Everyone in the Zelda community was so hyped and excited. And then we saw the first real trailer for Windwaker, and the mood turned sour. The word "Cel-da" was getting tossed around, and a lot of fans felt like they got lied to. I think Nintendo smelt blood in the water, because quickly after that first trailer there was that special Zelda Collector's Disk you could get when pre-ordering Windwaker. It had Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask on one disk. Plus, a playable 20-minute demo for Windwaker. This probably helped boost the sales of Windwaker a bit, it was still a fantastic game, but I know it sold fewer units in the West compared to the East. And then eventually we got Twilight Princess, which was basically the game everyone wanted in the first place. And those sales numbers don't lie; TP was the highest selling Zelda game at the time.
