Because KZbin's algorithms tend to cater to clickbait and low tier drama. This channel releases long very informative videos and it doesn't release them every day. So KZbin can't monetize them effectively like other low effort channels. It's a shame though as I prefer this to nearly everything out there. And I hope that the style never changes to fit the usual streamer marketing tropes.

On Metroid Dread: Look up early morph bombs. Once you get that first sequence break the world opens up into an incredible matrix of challenges. The map doesn't make much sense at all until that point then suddenly everything feels placed with care as you carve out a stylish path.

58:42 - Another World is easily in my top ten games of all time. It really changed my outlook on what could be done with video games as a medium when I was younger. It's certainly not the most "replayable" game ever, but I do like to play through it at least once every year or two. You can finish it in maybe half an hour once you know what you're doing, but it's still such a cool game, and it's really fun to watch someone who's new to it figure out how to progress.

Always love your end of year round ups. This approach always feels so much nicer to me than ranking the games and focusing on just what came out this year. Plus, I never get through a load of new games each year. I can't afford that. Most of my gaming is split between retro stuff I'm playign for the first time (Battlemania Daiginjou is my retro pick this year) and games I missed from the last few years.

Wonderful year in review! I have really enjoyed Alex Kidd DX. I played a lot of Alex Kidd when it was new and I loved it then but I've had a harder time enjoying the original these days. Ok, I'll take another crack at Ghosts and Goblins Resurrection, get out the arcade stick, finished Parasite Eve four times when it came out, love that game. Yes, I had great success cleaning goo from sticky labels, etc, off second hand controllers with Colloidal Silver, used it on an old copy of Sacred 2 360 I picked up recently and it nearly got the ancient label gunk off with a q tip, took all the sticky out anyway, it's great because it evaporates with no trace, also very effective against mouth ulcers. Thanks. Happy New Year. (If anyone's reading this, I mentioned this in the chat some time ago :)

Man I felt EXACTLY the same way about Jedi Fallen Order, Try. Was like someone yanked a game out of the PS2/Cube era and brought it to modern platforms. Just a fun action adventure with some solid platforming and simple but good enough combat. Not my favorite game ever or anything but it felt nostalgic in a way, both good and bad.

[Try4ce] Yep that was just my image of the game my whole time playing it. It coulda been a disappointment, and yet it just felt comfy and nostalgic for being so earnest and simple with what it tried to be.

Interesting. I found that game to be the worst parts of the souls-like phenomenon. Painfully slow traversal of boring empty levels with occasional combat that was super frustrating and likewise SLOOOOOW. It's like every few hours you would see something awesome and think YEAH THIS IS GONNA BE GREAT!!! and then it's back to slow traversal and boring repetitive combat. I wanted to fight some freakin' dark jedi and ride some speederbikes not take the long way round countless rooms in swamps and frozen empty caves.

@@darinherrick9224 Great settings, enjoyed the combat on Jedi Master (bit of a Souls fan), but then hit a boss and put down to story to progress. Bit of a getting lost simulator for me, didn't think much of the characters. Some parts 9, others 7 out of 10.

@@mylifeingaming am I the only one who hated this game? The combat felt terrible compared to Dark Souls, the exploration was limited, the bosses were annoying, and the performance on PC with random stutters was terrible. It started off great but then about 5 hours in I was bored to tears.

My favorite games I played this year were Sekiro, which was my first FromSoft game and DOA6. Sekiro is on my favorite games list now, it's just really satisfying to play I love the combat and the setting, I've finished it like 5 times now. As for DOA6 I've been trying to get into fighting games for years now, I've tried Street Fighter, SoulCaliber, Tekken and a few others but none of them clicked, but DOA's triangle system just worked for me. Ive been playing online and having a ton of fun, and then learning about frame times, mix ups, safe vs unsafe attacks, I finally feel like I'm starting to understand fighting games on a deeper level. I gotta say though fighting games have some of the greediest business models ever, it's sad to see. Anyway happy new years!

44:08 If you haven't already, I'd recommend you to play Hollow Knight. It completely reinvigorated my love for the Metroidvania genre, not just because of the quality of the typical Metroidvania elements themselves (complex map layout, exploration and backtracking, rpg lite progression, level design, combat, platforming etc.), but because of the incredible aesthetics and world building that really sucked me in. In the last 10 years only Bloodborne had a comparable impact. I think it's because of how compelling and coherent the vision is, and how consistently well it's executed across all aspects of the game's design. It's unbelievable how such a small team was able to craft such a masterpiece of an indie game.

I really liked Balan Wonderworld. I had a bad impression at first, but I ended up completing it and having a lot of fun.

Regarding Rolling Gunner, the director (Daisuke Koizumi) indeed did work on Akai Katana. I'd also check out Crimzon Clover if you haven't already. Those two are my favorite recent shooters.
