I saw "Memorex" all over my Dad's CD spindles and always thought it stood for "Memory Express." You learn something new every day.

Memory Express makes sense as a name for an offordable, available brand. Here in Europe, we did not have Memorex, at least not that i have noticed. But we have (intenso), hama and later ISY. All names which make no sense and sound cheap, especially hama is known for selling overpriced rubbish quality adaptors and cables for ages. Magnetic storage and cassettes were BASF and the Japanese brands (Sony, Axia/Fuji, TDK, etc).

@@iRocks-Mak3rde I print almost exclusively in PETG on a Prusa MK4. It’s a good middle ground between the ease of PLA and the strength of ABS without the worse fumes and hard requirement of a heated bed. PLA will *probably* be fine. It warps at a lower temp (like 55-60C) than nearly any other filament, especially if you have a lot of pressure or forces applied to it (like say the disc drive mounts that I made). I don’t think they did anything with the cooling fan here, but on mine I rerouted it as an exhaust out the back which helps with cooling a lot. I’d say try it. If it warps, use the fan if you aren’t. If it still warps, use PETG.

It's actually weird to see something so janky. With 3D printing, laser cutting etc. all available at consumer level now I really thought it would have turned out nicer. Even decent skill with a Dremel would have cut the disc tray up nicer than that.

I appreciate what you tried to do here, but feels like a little more lead time could have been given to them to get this done. The ports sprawling out of the back, the bad cuts in the plastic, the "door switch" could have been done so much more cleanly. Don't get me wrong, I know a ton of work was put into this, and I really do appreciate that, but I really would have liked to see a proper conversion. Just wanted to give a litte constructive criticism and my first impression (Not that it's really worth anytthing, haha.) Great video though, cool project, and great history of the company! Thanks!

The mod could have been much better than it was, but nice attempt either way. Also, why didn't you keep the ports in tact with composite? All GameCubes could do this so it seemed weird to convert the signal from HDMI to composite again. If you waited a little longer, you could have gotten the Flippy Drive mod instead of a Pico-Boot mod.

Given the size of the Gameshphere, Err, I mean Boomball, you could fit a Steamdeck, Lenovo Legion Go, or simialr Portable PC in there, minus the screen and buttons of course. You could hook up some controlers, a keyboard and Mouse, hook it to your TV and BOOM, you got yourself a console.

Holy crap, Ken. This is a throwback. Real talk; Memorex did a LOT; I mean a LOT of work w/Bell Systems (Bell Canada) back in the 90's/00's. A lot of what we deployed from a storage standpoint was from them. Edit: I was about to offer some support on fixing those (potentially?) broken caps, but @ ~16 min in, I realized I could offer no help. Dudes' have their mod game 'on lock'.

I know people fawn over Harmonic Voltage, but it just doesn't seem to have the same kind of vibrancy. It's a more somber kind of track, ya know? I wanted to do this mod years ago, I couldn’t find a boomball at the time, none were on ebay. My idea would’ve been to use the 4 play/pause/forward/back buttons for controller ports. I also, would’ve routed the simple AV port to the back (no hdmi). As for memory cards I didn’t think that far ahead at the time. I may try this one day in the future.

As a modder and tinkerer myself (who knows how to CAD and 3D print) that "Game Ball" "Game Sphere" whatever you'd like to call it, kinda came out so bad... The Disc drive cut as you mentioned was so bad. The back I/O to just be cable dangling out the back.. almost worse than my POCs. Take the effort to install a hardware mod for HDMI, just to convert it back to analog? May as well left the default analog output. Don't get me wrong the history and background details are a nice touch to your videos, it's just sad to see you have to rely on someone else to provide such a mediocre mod.
