This is a country wide, stealth knowledge purge of those that were not groomed or earmarked for senior management roles, but 100% know what senior managers are doing day-to-day, including actions that are both illegal and unethical. If everyone that “knows what’s up” are no longer able to find equivalent employment they are effectively silenced and are considered “dead” as knowledge workers, most won’t recover and as a result will never “be heard” ever again regardless of what they have to offer.

An auto parts store near me is always hiring, but one position stuck out at me because it SPECIFICALLY mentions only 16 or 17 year-olds. They pay maybe $10/hr IIRC. Meanwhile, there's a grocery store with most positions starting at $16/hr. The last job fair had lines stretching from the front of the store to the back and still growing. About half the job seekers were middle aged. When I went back to shop there after, the only folks I saw older than teens or college-age were management. I was livid because these teenagers can get jobs that start out at $16/hr & may not stick around, but as a 41-year old, I've never had $16/hr in my life. And in 4 or 5 months they'll have ANOTHER job fair & it'll all start over again. Can't get my hopes up anymore, so I'm getting off this train. They want folks that won't stick around because it means they won't have to do raises, from what it looks like. I already have 2 jobs I like, they just don't pay enough, & I'm filling in my skill gaps to find a part-time WFH job to help me get out of debt & save faster. Hope I get it within a month, b/c with whatever the hell's going on in the job market and economy, I'm just gonna batten down the hatches and ride this out with what I've got the next few years (& my restaurant job offered me a promotion after some training, so that's something).
