I have known someone who works for a tax company for so many years (long time). She works hard, and the company let you go two weeks before she supposed to get her $4000 bonus. She was let go unfairly, and not wanting to give her bonus for what she earns (loyalty).

I work at a company of about 70 people on site and imagine that, we don't have a HR person. Somebody from accounting occasionally does the legal paperwork when needed, and gets back to business after that. If sometimes more work is required, they hire a HR firm to do the heavy lifting of that particular requirement (head hunting and hiring, most often). I haven't heard anyone complaining that we don't have HR. Conflict is usually solved with a quick talk with the owner, but that is almost unheard of, or very rare. It helps that the hiring process is usually quite careful and potential drama queens are usually quickly spotted and dismissed. (There was a douchebag once that harrased some poor girl and he was thrown out less than 20 minutes later.)

I refuse to tip anywhere but a sit down restaurant now. Not my responsibility to pay you for your job.

She kind of answers her own dumb question, "nobody is doing this, how will they get ahead of nobody does thing like I did?". But if no workers are willing to come in a 4am (supposedly) then why do it? Only if there was active competition for other workers debasing themselves would any sane person consider it. I have been working from home 3 years now. My team is 8 people. We have a meeting everyday. All of us do great work and we get paid well. I love it.

The days of company loyalty are gone. Companies will drop you in a heartbeat, with 0 notice. There is no reason not to job hop.

If I go into the office early, say, at 2am, I can get a lot of work done before everyone else comes in at 8. Then I can test the software out in the test lab (engine dyno) for the rest of the day. Most of my work can get done those first six hours while nobody bugs me, then I can do fairly mindless work for the rest of the work day.

The key point I'm taking away here is that both of these companies are selling antiquated products or services that really nobody needs or wants, and so they need to brain train their employees to morph into some human form of AI in order to con the consumer into believing their obsolete product/service still has excitement in the marketplace. It doesn't, and they still won't want it. Office type jobs will be the first ones to be replaced by AI, and that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Years ago I was applying for teaching jobs and one district had you take a 30 minute “test” designed to analyze your teaching and classroom management style. I was given no feedback after the test and no indication of whether it was worth my time and effort to apply for individual jobs in the district. I did apply but got no calls. Was it the test or just that they had so many applicants? I’ll never know Grrrrrrr
