In Mali, the city of Gao is a gateway to the Sahara. Thousands of people from all over Africa pass through Gao: those heading for Europe and those forced to turn back. Both groups stop at a special place here, that exists just for them: the "House of the Migrant”.
For decades, Gao has been an important transit point for migrants on their long journey to Europe. But the Malian city in the Sahel region has also become a refuge for those whose dream of migrating to Europe has ended and find themselves forced to turn back. Their paths converge in one place: the "House of the Migrant".
The House of the Migrant welcomes hundreds of people every year. They include the intrepid, who try tirelessly again and again, as well as those who are setting out for Europe for the first time. The migrants come from all over Africa: Mali, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Niger, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Angola, Senegal. This house with the colorful walls welcomes them all, along with their fears, sadness and hope.
Esther and Kady are 15 and 16 years old. The teenagers from Burkina Faso stop at the house to gather strength for their onward journey north. They make friends with Natacha, a migrant who has lost all hope of reuniting with her relatives. The three of them form a kind of family and share moments full of joy, hope and caring. But for Esther and Kady, a different journey is in store than the one that confronts many other migrants, whose paths are so often marked by failures and traumatic experiences.

I hate watching documentaries like this. It annoys me to see young black men running to foreign land to be beggers. They should use this energy to fight their leaders instead of running to be deported or killed on the way. I'm just fed up.

I do sit comfortably on my coach and yes I comment on their problems. The vast majority want the experience the riches which most likely don't happen becuase they are unskilled and uncivilised (not sharing the values of Europeans) and I don't want an increase of beggers and criminals (statistics). They should stay and organise and fight back to the corruption. I'm sick and tired of this nonsense.

I see another documentary about the oh-so-much-needed "skilled labour force". I hope DW makes a documentary about the six raped minors in Regensburg, and their 23-year-old Afghan rapist, who was rewarded with a parole, because according to the judge "he's a great example of a well integrated refugee". And while at it, make also a documentary about the same "skilled workers" who come as "refugees", and then fly back on holiday to their war-torn banana republics. The 450.000.000 EU citizens deserve to know the whole story.

I have so much respect and the same amount of pity for all who try get to a safer place for their families. Our government descrimates on who they take in to help. Because of the invasion and war in Ukraine we've take nearly one hundred thousand in. We had nighter the infrastructures or expertise to coordinate such a influx of people. Side by side the disparity in quantity of help given is stark compeard to Africa, middle east, Asia. I don't say this to pick out a people just highlighting our governments response. Disaster. Ten thousand more came last month. Now tented cities have to be errected. The arguments start to be heard like how am I a Irish person homeless and one hundred thousand foreign people are being housed. Im stating the elephant in the room. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦 🇮🇪 ✊

So raw and brutal. Africa, the continent where I was born more than 7 decades ago as were the first hominids millions of years ago has been continually raped of its resources, taught brutality and corruption mostly by the colonial powers that occupied most of Africa. That is not to say that the ancient kingdoms of Africa weren't warlike and brutal, they most likely were. Homo Sapiens since forever have been hell bent on war and we have never learnt to live in peace. Or more simply put, "Live and let live."

Allow me to correct the title of this video : THE DOOR OF HEAVEN OR HELL INTO THE SAHARA DESERT: THE DANGEROUS WAY FROM AFRICA TO EUROPE Only those who carry the title of refugees understand the old pain of traveling to a faraway country. look at their faces, anxious, sad, hungry, sick, raped, imprisoned and a dark future looming before their eyes. Seeing this cruel scene and it being my past for a while, it has forged my mind to change the way I think about God when I read human history: I don't believe in god at all and deceit of religions.

@@pm3302 white amazighs did the same to invade and kill us, it may be just a defence mechanism to stay safe from their attacks, am sure if there were no muslims in the north, the south would feel a sense of relief and loosen up, if people were allowed to take their native beliefs without being threatened by religious local mobs, muslim or religious radicals would be almost nonexistent, this is why am here in the north spreading criticism of the belief as hard as I can, so the south can be safe from their hate based raids, but am also worrying about our own safety in the north, because white supremacy may take the form of nationalistic "Amazigh"ification, and according to many of their imaginary theories (monetized by the west and the rich whites) they think that only white amazigh speaking people are native to the country, many here are of European roots (after La Reconcista) but they prefer them even if they weren't too religious but they will always find a way to hate us colored people any time of the day, they are doing lethal technics against us now while we speak ,(aborting and burying the kid if he turned out black, blocking rivers to our regions by building huge dams and only providing white farmers with it), of course the west also conspires against us too which makes the heart wrench even more. By the way I live in Morocco.
