I myself am a recovered addict. And it took me 10 years to find mountain biking, and I'm hooked on MTB now.
@jaredbailey45994 жыл бұрын
@eman987 10 The cost varies, but it can get expensive. But if it's something you love, it's well worth every penny. I say start cheap, just to see if you're going to like it. But not $200 cheap. No Walmart bikes. My starter was a GT aggressor from Dicks sporting goods. About $400. You can usually find good deals on Facebook.
@dakotaflora69984 жыл бұрын
@@jaredbailey4599 Great advice, I started 2 years ago and still have my first bike. Going preowned is a really good option too. I have a trek vrx 200 full suspension bike from 1999. Found it on cragslist for $150 and it sold new for $1200. Congrats on your recovery, I am 7 years sober next month wish I had found mountain biking on day 1. Felt I should add I have spent another $2-300 over the last two years replacing parts and repairing my bike. With a newer bike I would imagine you could get away spending less just maintaining. I also have a suv so I just toss it in the back.. a bike rack would be nice but not essential for me. I've done the math and putting a hitch on and a good rack would cost me $400-600 so that may be a needed expense for many people.

I'm 26 years free from alcohol & drugs. With all of the money I saved from not drugging & chugging I can spend the $$ money on bikes. :) I started mountain biking in May of this year (2020) with a $248.00 Schwinn Boundary from Walmart. I just purchased a new 2020 Norco Storm 3 this week. I'll still ride the Schwinn in the winter weather though.

Hey Brian, if you're going to use that bin to dry clothes you may want to drill some 1 inch holes all around the sides so it can breath. If you just throw wet things in there now it's most likely just going to get moldy. A clothesline would be best. Look for travel clotheslines because many of them are retractable and have a lock on them for the line length. Some even have magnets or other ways to secure them in hotel rooms.

Of course you know how to Google, but here it is anyways; The holler is a colloquialism for a hollow, a v-shaped ravine or valley. It's the low spot, and one without good vision, with the only way out being climbing up, being down in the hollow/ holler means being in a difficult position but it can also mean being hidden, like in the song Brown Eyed Girl

Hi, really enjoying your 50 States video series. As regards your wet clothing, check out GMBN's recent wet weather riding tips. Doddie recommends using silica gel (!) to dry out your wet gear. Kind of a neat hack. Also holler is from the word hollow. A low, hollow place. That's why Jody said the mountains & their valleys. The hollow places between the mountains. Of course, in the South they don't have mountains, they have what we in the West would call hills. ;)

Wild Azalea is an absolutely beautiful trail in the spring and summer, especially when the wild azaleas or dog woods are blooming. It's primarily a hiking trail though, so it doesn't flow quite as well as a dedicated mountain bike trail. It's a shame you didn't get to check out the Comite (pronounced Coh-meet)/Kerry Stamey trails. They're purpose built trails and the builders were really clever about making the most out of the land available and there's a wonderful community in the form of BRAMBA (Baton Rouge Area Mountain Bike Association)

Wet clothes in the passenger footwell with the aimed at your feet... or better yet, adapt a hose (old vacuum cleaner hose, perhaps?) and route the warm air down through a make shift drying/hanging rack. One option for that would be to put some holes in the bottom of one of those nested plastic boxes and slot it inside another, then on the bottom one, add a single hole large enough to take the warm air hose. The warm air should permeate through the holes in the ‘inner’ box creating air flow over and through your wet kit. I’ve never tried this, but I reckon it’d work pretty well 👍🏼

Louisiana is EXCELLENT for culture and food, and some of the best people you'll meet. King cake is good, but if you're still there (which I doubt), try some Doberge (pronounced Dough Baghe) cake, that's my favorite. Boudin is pronounced (Boo-Dan), is incredible. The best place to get it is gas station delis, I guess it's the older fry oil that helps. Dip them in a good Remoulade, YUM! Northern LA does have some hills, good hog hunting. I was in Lake Charles once, but it was a ghost town, doing rescue after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. I wished I could've come back another time, seems like a great town. Lastly, yeah, If you are a Mountain Biker, you can't AFFORD drugs.... Keep up the good work.
