Probably the most important generation - introduction of CUDA cores and unified shaders set the standard for GPU design. The 8800 Ultra was a BEAST, but the 8800gt was one of the most impressive refresh cards ever, these cards were everywhere there were gaming PCs.

These cards really changed the game when it came for performance per dollar, not surprised that they were extremely common!

The thing is when the 8800gt was released in late 2007 and people bought it in 2008, very few people played games or watched video in 1080p. Most people watched movies in 720p and played games in 1024 x 768 or 720p.

Even then it seems to be totally doable in games of the time with the right settings! Originally I planned to use a lower resolution but it did so nicely at 1080p that I stuck with it for the final testing.

It was incredible at the time. We need another 8800gt moment this generation after the mess that was 40 series.

I think G92 was the best card of all times. Compared to 7900GT or 7800GT, the jump in performance was mutch bigger than any generation, even compared with GTX980 vs GTX1080.

Great card! My 8800gt was replaced with a GTX 560 because of a faulty memory. If I remember correctly it still worked but only with the standard SVGA driver. It was paired with an Intel E8200 processor. So many nice memories with it... GTA 4 and Crysis in 1024x768 resolution... Ahhh

In august 2007, I bought an x1950gt for $129, ~25% slower than the 8800gt. Wasn't bad for the time, and leaps and bounds better than the 9800pro I had.

25%? Pretty sure 8800 GT ended up being 100% faster than any ATI X1000 or GTX 7000 card.

I was blown away at the performance of my 8800GT at the time,Such a great performing card,I actually still have a fully working 8800GT but mine has a 1GB of Vram unlike most that have 512mb.

The 8800gt's were so hard to get. I had to get a HD 3870 instead. I wanted the 8800gt. It was the best value for money. Cards were much better value then.

With most of the benchmarks for this card, 1080p seems a bit overkill for it's time, but regardless, it fairs quite well.

I had the 8600GT and tried sim racing online. It couldn't handle 40 cars at once. I bought the 8800 GT and it could. The sim was rFactor.

I used a new 8600 gts and it costed me 350€ were i live. But next i bought an asus 8800gt now that was a beast back then.

I'm looking to change out the Thermal Solution for this Card as I have a Stock 8800 GT. Where can I get the passive cooling Metal Pads You used in this video for all the smaller chips? I'll find the Zalman Fan on My own. (I'm gonna need help finding one, it seems those things are hard to find in today's market)

The memsinks came with the card already in my case. If I were looking for more I would go on Amazon and search for VRAM heatsinks, depending on the kit you can get quite a lot of them for cheap. If they don't include it already though I would get some double sided thermal tape to attach them or something.

What tools are you using to tweak the voltage? I can't seem to enable the options for that in the latest version of MSI Afterburner. I'd like to reduce power consumption and temperatures on my 8800GT.

I used MSI Afterburner 4.6.2, and you have to tick unlock voltage control in the settings otherwise you wont see the slider!

ya i had to keep my case open and had a box fan blowing into it, then again i was also using a amd athlon 64 x2 that ran hot as the sun too.
