Well, the brains themselves haven't changed during the creation process while in the womb, so, yay for that. Plus, let's look at the positives that are likely to happen. We all know that big Corpo is often stepping all over people and they just fall in line/take it. Now, you have people who have quick tempers, low tolerances and low attention spans to stuff that they do not like in their lives, I think it is safe to say that big Corpo will be in massive trouble within quite a few of our lifetimes...

I have my stories to tell about my youth and proudly do so, but nowhere do I say that younger or older generations are crap... They each also have their own problems and that for sure should also be addressed, but not in such a way so as to say that others are garbage... I do get vocal at times about legit problems though, mainly about older generations talking smack about younger ones :)

I think the root of the problem with Gen Alpha is severe misuse of technology caused by their millenial parent's obliviousness to the nature of the internet, and also parents not teaching their kids how to use the internet in a good manner. Pretty much every kid ive met who got actual education on internet usage has come out much better than the generic gen alpha kid.

You could argue the same thing for Gen Z, since the Gen X parents of them also misused technology from their obliviousness to the nature of the internet and not knowing how to teach their children to use it in a good manner. @@THTB_lol Of course someone raised them, but a child is not raised by a collective, but by individuals. If you see a baby whose pacifier has been swapped out for a phone, that's bad parenting, and so the parents then are to blame. But one cannot point the finger at an entire generation. It's just another way to create an unecessary, and in many ways, entirely fabricated divide. I don't act or think the way I am because I am a millennial, but because of the experiences I've had in life and my own, how would you say, internal makeup? Furthermore, this type of logic, I believe, seems like it could be applied to no end. That is, who raised the people who raised the Ipad kids? And who raised the people who raised the people who rasied the Ipad kids, and so on? If we can extend one hand out to the older generation, and the other out to the younger generation, maybe we'll have a chance of crossing this silly divide and unite together as a single species.

The older we get the more we become like the people we used to complain about. Just remember they are kids, they feel just as helpless and misunderstood as we used to (and still do). It wasn't long ago when we (gen z and millennials) were told we were the worst thing to ever happen, that we were ruining everything and were shamed for liking anything, yet we are starting to do the exact same thing to children. We could be the person we needed when we were younger but we are doing the opposite. Remember, we were in their place once, they've never been in ours.

I just feel down a rabbit hole of watching videos like "Gen Z and Alpha will ruin the world" and all that stuff, but this video, this video really changed my perspective. As a person born on the verge of Gen Z I can really say I've felt the influence of both Gen Z and Gen Alpha. I myself sometimes think of my peers and me as braindead and how we're gonna ruin the world. And when I clicked on this video I just thought it's gonna be another rent about us, but when I got the point I couldn't help but smile. I feel like we always put too much presure onto new gens, without looking back at how that influenced us when we were a new gen. And we never consider how almost every gen has had it's problems and things they thought will ruin the world. Now I really have hope in Gen Z parents and I feel like we'll do a great job in balancing "gentle parenting" and "traditional" parenting. Maybe after all, every generation before us felt like they won't do a good job in raising kids or just generally building a functioning society. I'm well aware humanity has to come to an end but this made me feel a bit more sure that it won't be my gen whos gonna ruin the world and allat. PS. Sorry for any gramatical or other mistakes, english isn't my first language.

We as a society can point at the few bad examples and say that an entire generation is doomed. How they're gonna give them "traditional discipline" (child abuse to you and me.), restrict what their kid sees on TV to THEIR shows and movies and teach them marriage through the bible to save their "innocence." Great breakdown on how the same cycle has repeated over and over again and that generation alpha isn’t doing bad necessarily. Personally, I thought the reason generation alpha wasn’t good at all is because of the attention spans and constant watchtime on brainrot content. In my own experience, gen alpha is not bad at learning reading, spelling, or multiplication. I have seen little kids from 6-12 (especially 8-10) be very good at these subjects. I know a kid who is incredibly fluent in reading, and most of the kids in his school are the same. I also know a kid who has gotten only one question wrong on a spelling test in his 2 years of taking a spelling test every week. Guess what the word was, got your answer? “Different”. He got tricked on the double e. The last kid I know is incredibly good at multiplying, he finished 100 0-12x math problems in 1:38 seconds. But, that was on pressure and he only slept a few hours of sleep the night before, so imagine his max time. In conclusion, no generation is bad and this is a great analysis of generation alpha. I was born in gen alpha, yet I did and still do play outside! I have very good school participation and grades, and I can do math from a grade above me, I watched TV, also I didn't have an Ipad at 5, not all kids from gen alpha watch skibidi toilet, some kids acctually still play outside, and touch grass. My generation gets alot of hate, and i understand it, but I am not one of the skibidi toilet Ipad kids, and most people i know have never watched skibidi toilet. Point is, I consider myself and many others in gen alpha, normal!

I agree! I’m gen alpha and I don’t see why generation matters sometimes tbh, we don’t choose our age and environments we were born in, when I was younger I was outside ALL the time, but growing older I’m more isolated to my room, however I started to love reading and know English better than some high schoolers LOL. Sure I scroll through KZbin shorts but my social media is very limited, I just know a lot about what’s going on especially on politics because of the internet, it informs you. Which isn’t always a bad thing!

Hey! Gen Alpha also here, I also heavily dislike when older generations blame and criticize all of us, sure, in some cases I get their concerns, absolutely, but i don’t think it’s to the point of world-ending stuff, you know ? Every exposure people have to gen alpha is mostly negative but they don’t care to check the other side, I can assure you, there are a lot of gen alphas that are “normal” as said before, we don’t all obsess about skibidi toilet, sure in my zone it’s a joke, but it’s not more than that, even when there is people that I know of that love and watch skibidi toilet a lot, I’m positive other generations have had similar things in their times, you can’t just put a group of people all in just one box or a category just because you only saw one of them act, it’s not that we’re brain rot or something, you just don’t see most of us online or in videos CAUSE WE ARE DOING OTHER THINGS, I can tell you this, right now my younger neighbors are playing outside, are they bratty and spoiled ? Absolutely not. Why am I not outside then? Cause of personal preference, I’m more of an indoors person and that has nothing to do with my generation, and I can read and learn just fine, thank you.

The multiplication is still useful, because if you're at the store and buy 6 products, each costing 3.99 (aka 4 dollars), you first need to get your phone out, unlock and then type it in. Costs 5-10 seconds you waste, and that is actually dangerous, because staring at your phone while moving is a leading cause of accidents.

He’s done it again. Edit I’m in an interesting spot in this debate as a very early gen alpha. This is because I for a lack of a better word identify with gen Z culture and media and beliefs more than gen alpha but I also can’t deny the impact other gen alphas specifically later gen alphas have had on me and the content I watch. Like with the “kids these days can’t live without ai” I agree with that statement bc before that you had to write your own essays and do your own quizzes at school. Im the smart kid so I’m the one people were copying not the one who was copying but my point still stands. I’m sure gen alpha will become better but it’s still weird being in my position here I feel like a gen Z double agent infiltrating gen alpha lines lol. Also I am top of my class in math so I feel like gen alpha is badly behind on math but I’m biased because I’m an 7th grader that can do trigonometry and basic calculus and statistics so seeing 3rd graders who can’t multiply 9 * 7 is bad to me bc of my bias the only reason I’m not ahead is that the US hates pushing kids forwards grade levels for some reason.

I agree with some of your points but personally disagree with one major one: the one you made on the statement “Kids don’t know how to multiply”. Basic arithmetic has always been and will always be more important than cursive writing. Sure, most of us literally have a calculator in our pockets but being able to rely on your brain, especially when you can’t just use your devices, is so much better. It’s also important to understand the fundamentals of mathematics and the purpose and reason behind basic functions as you will be able to them find real world applications of them.
@bofangchang
@bofangchang 21 күн бұрын
Fair point, I could have clarified that I was criticizing the rote-memorization aspect, not the idea that kids shouldn't learn math anymore. Math is incredibly important and core principles need to be learned, I just don't think memorizing multiplication tables makes any sense anymore. As another commenter above you said, "It's OK not to memorize basic arithmetic answers for simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. You can even still be considered gifted in math, despite never memorizing the basic answers. Google "mathematician Emma King" for proof."

The flaw of the argument; 'all generations say that about the youth', it that what the older generations say is more often than not, true. When the older generations complain about the newer generation, there concerns are often based (at least somewhat) in reality. However, the general culture in the new generation slowly adjusts to be used to there own culture, so weird traits about the generation become normalized. As a gen z, I think the complaints about excessive electronic devices for young kids is very justified. But overtime, as the gen alpha grows up, this will become the new normal. By the time gen beta comes around, any complaints we have about this will probably just seem old fashioned and irrelevant, similiar to how we feel when we are told that TV or video games are bad for us.

@ordinaryrat

My point is that this argument doesn't works if it is simply responding to criticism. If one generation says 'the new generation is objectively worse', then generally this argument would apply because the culture of the new generation would adjust and make it the new normal.

I think what separates Gen Alpha from every other generation is how they are so tapped into the internet. A Gen Alpha kid has an even more powerful access to the internet than any other generation, and that will have severe consequences. At least with Gen Z we did grow up with fast access to the internet but I don’t know if it was me but I had a limited access early in my childhood. I didn’t get my first phone until I was 13, but kids now are getting phones and top of the line devices at a way younger age. Couple that with the increase of over stimulation in content, and Gen Alpha I believe will suffer massive setbacks. I haven’t even mentioned the pandemic.

As someone who cannot survive my current courseload w/o memeorizing rules of algebraic manipulation, let alone something as basic as multiplication, I absolutely disagree with Point 2. Yes, we have calculators to do multiplication, but it far more convenient to be able to multiply 6x6 in a matter of milliseconds by commiting it to memeory, rather than needing to pull out your phone, switch to the calculator app, and type that same function. For most people , memorizing multiplication tables may be useless, but the ~25% of people who go into career requiring quick mathematical thinking will not have the skills to succeed.

The Serious Conversation: Honestly, what I think is sadder about this topic is how the older generation is always looking down at the younger one instead of putting themselves in their position. The following generation isn't dooming itself; the older generation is dooming them. The sooner they realize that, the sooner we can fix the issues we are facing today.

One part you’re wrong is the lack of necessity of cursive and multiplication. Is not about knowing that’s stuff, it’s about understanding why the shit you do is the way you do and not just make believe, it’s about practicing your problem solving abilities aka creativity. Not even mentioning that multiplication is very important for algebra and there’s a lot of things that a calculator won’t solve for you. Why would you think if the calculator think for you? that’s why we have the shit we have today, phones, cars, computers, calculators, etc. Because somebody had to think learn the basics from sum to complex calculus. And for the cursive, neurologist are finding out that cursive is one way to better develop a growing brain. That’s why the stereotype that asian tend to be the most intelligent, maybe it’s because their language is so complex from writing to grammar that forces them to develop their brain from a early age. What would be of a pilot if he doesn’t how a engine works, how physics can interact with the car, therefore taking advantage of it. What would be of a alumni if he doesn’t know how basic math works in a calculator.

The problem with replacing skills with technology today is that in previous decades it were physical skills: washing clothes in rivers, growing a field of wheat with basically onl ya a horse, ect. But now technology replaces skills of the mind, like multiplication, that, unlike physical ones not only remove dependency on the technology (than nowadays is not that relevant, everything depends on it), but enhances capabilities of the mind, allowing for faster thinking, faster learning, better memory and much more. Oh, and by the way Alzheimer's is linked to the center of the brain that is used for calculations and the more advanced it is, the lesser the chance of getting Alzheimer's is (My physics teacher told me that, so I am not entirely sure about this information), so if this generation never learns multiplication (and division, because I can't imagine learning it without knowing multiplication) they might be much more vulnerable to that disease, and thatis not good

Best people to ask are teachers who have taught for generations. I coached for maybe a cohort or two, from 2011 until now. I’d say kids are kids in general and haven’t changed much but if I’m 100% objective they are getting a little worse in some areas. I’m seeing more and more kids who literally don’t know how to run. Kids are fatter. More depressed. Self harm more. I’m seeing more gender confused kids. More tantrums. Kids get sick more often and for longer periods of time. Depending on the area kids literally don’t come outside. Objectively speaking if you talk to educators they are getting worse at math and reading proficiency. So I mean, great video but a lot of the stuff is just true. We are getting fatter and fatter. Sicker and sicker. Spending less time outside. Spending more time with technology etc etc. Just because every generation says it doesn’t mean it’s false.
