"Why does he use more white on female characters? Because it makes them look younger." Weird sentence that threw me off, especially given that MGS is one of the few games that kind of has the balls to age their female characters. But obviously Shinkawa has worked on other stuff and that's how a lot of Japanese media is sadly. Still, his art is beautiful, especially MGS3, here each character concept is almost equal in that regard.

Great point, I should've phrased it better; make them appear more "youthful" or "beautiful". Because that's all I tried to say with 'looking younger'. Like you mentioned, the series features many mature and older-looking women, but they would look like grandmas with shadows on their faces. Many hobby portrait artists screw this part up, by adding too much shadow and tones to the woman's skin, making them look "older".
