I am very impressed by his environment skills! All the stuff, including oil, that is leaking away into the soil! Really great! In the middle of the jungle, very good example how it has not to been done!

Absolutely amazing what can be achieved if one puts their mind to it. His look of concentration and determination says it all. I’m a 73 year old Brit who has worked on many cars over the years but nothing like what this young lad has achieved. Well done sir!

@@georgeh9967 Wheels are easy fix. 2 years is still 2 years worth of use = 730 days! To the average vehicle life of just over 10 years that is an extension of near 20%! Likely more than 2 years since rework can be done and it will not be from same starting point. Great for the environment.

That is why the only way for Manufacturers to stop repairing (which is the best environmental solution) is to legislate making repairs illegal. Hence the fight for "Right to Repair" laws. Precariously under attack and may only be a matter of time.

The engine rebuild was a good idea and done well but I would like to recommend a few things and point out a few things I learned about engine rebuilds and re-assemblies. Always put the lifters back in from the same location you took them out. The same goes for crankshaft mains, intake and exhaust & intake valves and pistons. These parts can wear uniquely to the positions they are installed. Not following this practice can cause these items to wear out even more than they already have and leak oil past them. The pistons can loose some compression along with burning some oil and loose performance of the motor. Lastly there was a valve reinstalled that had a chunk of the metal missing that was right near the edge of the backside of the valve’s face. This valve should have been replaced Also oil filter should have been thrown away, you guys did a nice job on the engine tear down and putting all the contaminates back into the engine from that old oil filter kind of undid some of the good work you did in removing all the wear metal contaminates from the engine. Who knows what kind of problems you may have introduced back into the engine. Oil filters are very cheap insurance compared to re-building the engine all over again. So you can know. All ways change the oil filter with the oil. After running the new rebuilt motor you should change the oil and the filter again after 1000 miles then go 3000 miles and change the oil and filter again to get rid of engine rebuild wear-in metals suspended in oil and filter.

@jeffscott7266

@@user-jy8mo5fi5q I’ve actually seen cars in worse shape here in the USA get completely restored but you’re right that car most likely probably not. It looks like they were restoring the car for themselves possibly and saving spending a lot of money on a used car purchase in today’s economy. I would hate for them to have to spend additional time and cost to rebuild or restore something again that might be prevented when they already had it all disassembled. Sometimes cutting corners might seem like an option worth the gamble I guess? I was taught differently. You know Murphy’s Laws right? One of them was, “There’s never enough time to do the job right the first time but there’s always enough time to do it right the second time”. I admire them for not letting this abandoned car go completely to ruin and leak it’s fluids all in the surrounding environment for what appears to have been for no major malfunction with the car. I thought for sure a snake was going to surprise one of the guys. I rebuilt an old 1970’s Toyota Corolla in 1977 as a high school project in my 2 semester long Auto Mechanics class. The car otherwise would have been junked. I impressed my teacher so much that I got an A for my final class and shop grades plus the comment from him and he was not easy guy to impress, “I can’t believe how good this car sounds looks and sounds. I didn’t even think it was possible”. So I guess this project kind of reminded me of that a bit and there’s some satisfaction in a job well done. I ended up joining the Air Force two years later and becoming a Jet Engine Mechanic. I met some of the best guys I’ve ever had the pleasure working with and respecting, in my entire life. We worked on the very same Sikorsky Helicopters at my first base I was stationed that they had worked on in Vietnam. They could show me every hole they had fixed from being shot at. They would not let me address them as Sargent when I was just an Airman basic slick sleeve. Unless only when we were around the brass and had to be formal so they (and I) didn’t get into trouble. That made such an impression on me and I respected them all that much more. We always had each other’s backs and we came from all over the US. The only skin color in the Air Force was green! Be thankful and pay it forward right? Native American’s believe that knowledge isn’t ours to keep but something to pass along.

@@user-bg8gu7dz3l there was some off camera activity so I wasn’t sure exactly had been changed or not. The pistons if not damaged or excessively worn could have been reused and same with the intake & exhaust valves, and lifters. They showed a gasket kit and thought maybe they had a rebuild kit and may have changed piston rings, connecting rod sleeve bearings, and crankshaft main bearings. The poor man’s intake & exhaust valve and seat resurfacing was not the traditional method for sure. I didn’t have time to rewatch the video. But maybe you could help them out with a more extensive critique if you have the time. It’s been decades since the last engine overhaul I’ve done and not professing to be the expert anymore on it but definitely noticed some steps skipped like criss cross torque wrench patterns on heads, crankshaft, oil pan and valve cover. Maybe they didn’t have a lot of money and were doing the best they could afford to get the car going again and have a vehicle to drive.

Always use a torque wrench when you assemble an engine's internal parts like conrods bolts, girdle bolts, and cylinder head bolts in proper tightening sequences and torque settings as guided in the manufacturer's service manual. Also try to use some assembly lube on bearings to prevent scratches at the initial operation.

Painting over rusty metal, then applying bondo over the paint is not a good practice. The paint and bondo will delaminate off the metal as it rusts, then create bubbles under the paint. Then it will flake off. The rust on this car will eat it alive from the inside out. They had a chance to take it down to bare metal the primer, bondo, color coat, and clear coat. The guys are really hard workers. They should have checked and found the right methods and could in good conscience charged more money. The new owner’s got quite the surprise Waiting.

All in all not a bad job! You all show good mechanical and technical skills! Some steps in rebuilding, especially the electrical parts were not shown in details. You cut the cables in the doors when you dismantled the car... but on mounting the door, no details were shown how you managed this section. But the remains of dirt and rust inside the body is a time bomb. I hope you live in a warm country without any salt on streets in wintertime. Bute even in monsoon time lots of water will be a big enemy or at least a huge challenge for this car. What I did not understand: The procedure of painting. The used metal plates were not cleaned enough on both sides, so there are remnants of rust on many places. Even the repaired housing of the back left wheel housing could have made better - they did not take out the ridden/rusted original iron plate, only a well bent partly rusted new irol was welded inside the car. So there is a hidden space in the wheel housing which still has holes/access to the outside. When heavy rain is on the streets this chamber will be a swimming pool without any drain and an optimal home for microorganisms and of course for new rust! The black painting may be taste to every individual... But also everybody can see, that the paint job was not made professionally. Especially on plastic parts (i.e. rear bumper) the result wasn't better then on iron parts...

Guys, haven't you figured out yet that these videos are basically almost fake? This car looks more battered after the restoration than before, just look at how it drove around with all the doors open because they didn't close. Not to mention the ending of the video was clearly cut because evidently at that moment the engine started to give problems and then broke. In short, you still haven't understood that they only aim to be able to start the nacchina just once and only do the lap needed for the filming of the closing of the video, that's it, it doesn't matter if a moment later the whole car falls to pieces ! All they need to do is give the impression of having repaired it, a superficial repaint and off they go!! Also because repairing a car in earnest, especially if reduced to those conditions, is not worthwhile and they certainly don't earn large amounts of money from these videos, they have to do everything to save money to stay financially within it. They are pure entertainment videos, done just like that... just for the sake of it! Don't think that these are serious restorations! I'm not at all, and it shows!

You guys are great Mechanics, but for me , Before starting to take an engine apart , I always give it a good clean first , either blast with Jet Wash , or Brush it with Parafin/Kerosene , Air Line or whatever, but must be clean for me before anything!! 👍
