I teach a class on architecture and actually showed this video during my unit on Architecture of the Future. We typically don’t think about “architecture” in post-apocalyptic scenarios, but I remembered director George Miller talking about the people in such a future creating things of beauty because they’d have so little of it around them, so I checked out youtube to see what I could find on the topic. There wasn’t much, but finding this video, the connection between architecture and fashion through the concept of imagination, design, and especially resourcefulness, when it came to utilizing the materials at hand to create something striking that had never existed before, sent me and my class down a bit of a rabbit hole. One of my students, who professes to never have had much interest in fashion before, is now writing their final paper about the overlap between fashion and architecture, which is considerable and growing more so by the day. Thank you so much for the video. I don’t know if you ever imagined your work having an effect on a non-fashion audience, but you have lit up the minds and expanded the perception of a group of architecture students in Massachusetts, of their own, non-fashion-related chosen profession, no less. Bravo and thank you, again.

I'm so down for this series. I started reading your articles years ago starting with the fashion design elements, and this is a natural and glorious evolution of that. Subscribed and looking forward to more!

I don't even think the wives had shoes- I think it's implied that furiosa stole some war boy boots for them. Just another power play on joe's part to try and make them feel weak and helpless

That's such a good point, can't believe I didn't put that in the video!

Love the video! I am really looking forward to more of this series. My favorite thing about the Mad max costume is probably the symbolic costume additions the wives get, when they join the many mothers

Costumes are an element I always forget to pay close attention to, so I've always loved your writing about them - it gets me to appreciate another layer of storytelling. So happy you'll be doing videos on them now too!

Loved it! I've not really thought about films from this angle and love finding a new way to look at movies. I like the way you linked the costume choices to the wider themes of the franchise.

2nd of these videos I've watched and the last. 1st was full of political propaganda, this one that, and misandry. The non-existent far-right violence and toxic-masculinity.
