Honestly like that part of it though because sometimes…that’s the reality of these types of cases anyway. The creep never gets caught and/or manages to find a way to stalk the target until it’s too late

For me, as a nurse, the Caretaker is the most hilarious, simply because when the random guy told the protagonist to “bring me the drug” and she just waltz in and took a whole bottle of Morphine without any issue. Here in Australia meds like those are secured behind 2 locks with the keys being on the nurse at ALL TIME and we have to count the individual pills at the end of the day every day. If rven just 1 go missing we’ll have to write reports and if it’s a large amount you bet someone’s career is in jeopardy.

Now that you mentioned it, Chilla's Art has a brilliant business model. Low budget games that are still so extremely good and popular, it actually works in their favour that they use low quality because the games use that to their advantage.

As a woman, a lot of Chilla’s Art games are so terrifying because they are realistic. Games like the closing shift and parasocial are games about things that can and do affect women way too much. The closing shift is especially chilling because no matter what you do, you are still taken by the stalker. These games are so effective and hopefully can make people aware of these issues more.

hitokara (the karaoke) is in the same vein as closing shift & parasocial but worse imo due to the subject matter. i commend the brothers for not shying away from highlighting taboo social injustices/flaws in japan. i think it helps shatter the fantasy westerners have of japan being a utopia. japan's flaws present differently from how they typically present themselves in the west esp. since politeness is expected in japan so ppl tend to be silent w their prejudices. ex: okaeri is about how nurses are treated terribly (the mom's a nurse & she self-erases) & nursing is looked down on. when i learned this, i was shocked bc it's so different in the u.s. where nurses are paid well varying on the department & nursing as a career is well-respected & sought after. chilla also covers the poor treatment of the mentally ill/disabled with night delivery which has a tragic story. ppl also call japan safe. homicides are much lower than in the u.s., but that doesn't mean it's "safe" for everyone by default. japan is still patriarical so women still get stalked, ssaulted, harassed, etc. & naturally, these crimes are under-reported. women were groped on trains so often that they added women-only train cars. they have women-only capsule hotels too (shouldn't need to exist, but glad they do). this is longer than intended lol but i think its good chilla gets ppl talking

For me it's the Caretaker, simply because of that 1 scene where you took the Morphine while your coworker is on duty. Because trust me at that point your Nurse manager will do much more scary stuff to you/your coworker than the stalkers or eldritch horrors. People who work in nursing can relate.

Same. It's so underrated but I loved that there were a lot of endings and all of them could easily happen to anyone. It's another horrifying reality that never really gets talked about enough. SA in schools happens so much but people usually turn a blind eye especially when the perpetrator "doesn't seem like the type to do it" and holds authority at the same time.

I think what should be mentioned, is the perfect "Blend" of Realism x Folklore. Aka Manto, Bath Ghost House -even the stalkers -they're all either Folklore, or Urban Legends (e.g. killer on the backseat). Most horror games struggle in that. Using trope-locations like hospitals, haunted mansions or schools. Scenarios that already screamed "Horror" from the beginning. Chilla arts is perfect, as it truly delivers realism first. You truly feel like you could run into this shit, or worse: Have already made experiences like that. Aka: In the Coffee-house game/The Closing Shift, you "attract" your stalker by helping him get his phone. As a woman, I've had many women tell me to NOT be too nice to strange men, because many might take it as "flirting" and get obsessed with you. Customer service is horrible in that per se: You are by job forced to smile & be nice. And though exaggerated here as just some demented guy that immediately wants to pudding you -those men CAN indeed get violent once they realize you weren't flirting. Especially horrorfying is the concept of "waiting". Like. I had men follow me on the bus from my job, but at least left afterward. Or men who do take the hint, and then react embarrassed instead of blaming you. But the thing is -you don't know! You never know! Same in the game. You never fully know till the door-jumpscare. And then you later get full confirmation by seeing him with a crowbar -esp. in ending 1, where it's already too late, sadly.

I love how Chilla's Art explores many different concepts and executes them all pretty well. Some are supernatural e.g. cursed buildings and vengeful spirits, while others are common crimes in society e.g. stalking and femicide. Even though there's a distinct atmosphere to their games, each one looks unique from the next. I resonate the most with the Starbucks stalker game, especially the nightmare where all you do is struggle with never-ending orders. Having been in that situation, it feels so silly but also real that a service worker would experience that kind of stress.

The narrator's monotonous voice makes the jokes even funnier. I think convenience store truly helped them take off in the horror game scene. It was genuinely a terrifying experience. The endings of the closing shift pissed me off because might as well have only one canon ending. You don't actually have a choice.

I just finished playing the new bathhouse and omg is it terrifying. The thing about chillas arts more recent games is that they can happen in real life to anyone especially women. It’s not the jumpscares and ghosts or spirits that scare me, it’s how they make the humans villains. The bathhouse boss, the stalker in closing shift, these humans are the horror of these games. Makes me realise just how evil some people can be, how there are so many creeps out there, that is what makes me scared.

Chilla's Art has proven, you don't need ultra realistic graphics and fancy animations to make your game terrifying. it looks even more terrifying on lower graphics (like PS1 style graphics like Ako Manto) honestly PS1 style graphics is scarier to me. it feels like watching a vintage Halloween costume photo from the 18th - 19th century.. it has such a strong sense of dread in it

My personal favorites are The Closing Shift, The Karaoke, and Parasocial (in that order) because of the intentional lack of supernatural elements. The horror is real and palpable for anyone, but especially females. I think the Chilla's Art devs - despite both being men - seem to understand the concerns that many women face in these scenarios. These games are seriously so good. 🔥

You can't forget hanako, inunaki tunnel, onryo, the radio station, night security and the kdinap. Their later games aren't that deep in psychology but u have old ones. Nice vid, enjoyed.

Probably already been explained by other people, but in case they haven't: Okaeri is about you, or specifically your ghost. You recently died and the spirit/ghost is either unaware, or forgot that you died, so it tried to find it's way back home. That's why the ghost didn't remember where it's house is while also saying they've been living there for a week. The mom probably game ended herself because of your death and in the end is you coming to terms with your death. The noose symbolises you passing on to the next life. This whole spirit forgetting stuff and wandering back home is a common Asian myth/tale. Some houses have altars of their God to ward off the spirits from entering their home, or altars of the deceased to remind said spirit they've died, and to not linger in this realm anymore.

I do appreciate the thrill of good scares and unnerving atmosphere, but the main draws in the horror genre for me are supernatural and surreal themes. Scary things are cool, but weird and mysterious things are even cooler to me. Basically I enjoy horror because I'm a fan of things that are adjacent to it and overlapping with it and that extra spice that comes with horror is definitely welcome.

What made the game "Parasocial" special for me is that it got alot of references to other games: - The Chilla's Coffee the protagonist and her friend go to are the same one in The Closing Shift and we can see the CF Protagonist working there as usual and her Stalker (presumably?) as the guy who takes orders. - The protagonist played "Aka Manto" and claims it's too hard, the same reception the original Aka Manto have in the reviews - In the end, the protagonist's friend recommended her to play "The Convenience Store" if Aka Manto is too hard since the game is easier and is made by the "same creator as Aka Manto". Games from the Chilla's Art brothers and Puppet Combo are easily one of my favorite style of horror games since it actually give you chills and had stories that will be on your mind longer than it's supposed to. Might've added Fears to Fathom to this category. When I first found out about them I was impressed that they're made by only 2 (recently 3) brothers because the quality is so insane.

But, truly, these games are so realistic and really hits so many real life fears (especially as a woman). I'm always stuck to a good game play of the games, then go buy the games. Not even to really play them, though I HAD to play Closing Shift and Parasocial because they were SOOOOOO good, but to just keep supporting, so more games can come out. There are so few indie games that really reach a certain level of popularity, not always for the graphics or anything like that, but just because they are actually good games. Parasocial was the one that made me feel so uneasy. Thankfully, I've never been in this situation but the idea of having a stalker, knowing you have a stalker, but you don't know who they are or who's helping them get closer to you is terrifying and just so real. A lot of the motivations and possible motivations two of the most crucial characters in the game (your best friend and your ex) have are so reasonable for them either being for you or against you. And at the end of the day, that's what really got to me: Not knowing who you can really trust or turn to for help or comfort; being utterly alone.

The closing shift is a damn good game. The only issue with these games is the replay. There’s certain games you can just replay multiple times a month and games you can replay from time to time, then there’s these that you can probably never play again unless they add some sort of easter egg. What was stupid of me is. I watched Markiplier play the closing shift. And there was genuinely like 25 minutes left in the video and not until then did i decide to download the game. So I didn’t get the full experience but still see how good it is. Haven’t played any other Chilla’s art game besides this one and don’t know which one should be next

I think my favorites are the karaoke and the kidnap, and i think this has to do with the fact that their stories involve minors. It's just so much more horrifying and also heartbreaking to me to witness such realistic horrors happening to very young people. And the fact that they can, and have, happen to any child/teenager irl is just sickening. These games really made me cry with their storyline. At least with the karaoke we got to have one truly good ending, but with the kidnap, all the endings just messed up the kids one way or another.

Aw man you didn't play night security too? Just leme tell you imo its the scariest of the chilla's art games. Like genuinely the scares and tension and environments are so good.
