I honestly found your first video on a meme site. I liked the posh northern British accent so much and the whole out of the blue kind of dark humour. When a colleague recently asked for recommendations of what to watch on KZbin, I recommended this series, the full 2023 omnibus. I described it as 'Adventure Time' if it was made by a fellow Brit with an absurdist mindset and a lot more swearing and violence. Also, the one man genius team, Tom Bates, behind it may or may not be macro-dosing psilocybin when writing and storyboarding. I'm impressed with just how much story can be packed into 60 seconds and how utterly charming the characters, voices and the setting are. I've watched the 2023 compilation about 8 times now. I'm very happy for Tom that it's doing so well.

So, this is how I found out that Tom Bates is the same guy as yogscast Tom. That was surprising! I knew Yogscast Tom from a lot of the group stuff he's appeared in over the years (mostly without a webcam) and then found Nigel and Marmalade when it started getting popular. I never connected that those 2 might be the same person.

8:44 Arthur Conan Doyle hated writing Sherlock Holmes stories but couldn’t stop because the public kept demanding more.
@robertnett97938 ай бұрын
I think that's a bit exaggerated. As far as I know Doyle saw Sherlock Holmes as his work. He did try to tend the series with the infamous Reichenbach-Falls story but then came back to writing more - for one, true, because of fan demand and also because you need to pay the bills somehow...

Nigel and Marmalade is such a fun show because I think it's best as shorts rather than series, I don't think I'd like this if it was 20 minutes long, but then again, I was wrong before.

Ngl theres like the whole compilation of all of them on his channel and it’s like 30 minutes long, i was thoroughly entertained lol
@emmett47339 ай бұрын
Yeah, when Tom talked about whether or not he’d be interested in making a tv show I was thinking exactly that- N&M is perfect as a series of one-minute shorts with mostly unconnected storylines, and I believe that much of what makes this series great would be lost in trying to stretch the simple, funny, contained plots into longer episodes. I would rather watch 30 one-minute videos (either with completely disconnected plots, or with a simple overarching story that loosely connects them) than one 30-minute episode
@anderssorenson99989 ай бұрын
Exactly, I think he's making a mistake trying to make even 5 minute episodes. It's a nice little treat when you get sucked in by shorts to come across a Nigel and Marmalade. But I too hope I'm wrong.

tom bates truely understands the not-so-subtle art of irrational response for example : patricia brutally stabs a man then exclaims "oh good now thats over, would anybody fancy a cuppa?" the humour in criminal ignorance, the laughability of such a personality, but then the real trick is to make the character appealing once i had seen patricia a few times i correlated them with tree trunks from adventure time, a truely likeable wholesome character with a dark ignorance of evil, but turned up to 11 in patricia's case
