This channel focuses on the attractions and animal welfare of great apes (Chimpanzee, Gorilla, Orangutan).
We praise zoos that are proactive about animal welfare and environmental enrichment,
and strongly criticize those that are passive about animal welfare and environmental enrichment,
and demand that animal welfare be implemented.
*Environmental enrichment is a measure to reduce
their mental and physical stress and have them live a happy life from the standpoint of an ape,
not from a human convenience or emotion.
Among them,
foraging enrichment (installing puzzle feeders and increasing the number of meals so that apes can lead a rich life) can be done at low cost.

Niini, Fubuki, Mamoru and Ginji are united by a common problem. They had no peer friends and no opportunity to waste energy playing with each other. As a result, due to excess energy and boredom, they all begin to cross the boundaries of mischief.

The chimpanzees look more healthy than some in Japanese zoos, but their outside enclosure needs a massive upgrade to give them more to do and avoid fighting with each other

The conditions of that hellish zoo, no enrichment, leads this behavior as well. There's nothing else for them to do but mischief. That zoo should be FORCED to build larger, more natural enclosures, or give up ALL their animals to sanctuaries, and there are plenty out there who'd take them in.

ヤワラはどうして八木山に移動になったのですか？帯広で平和に暮らしてたのに、ギンジに叩かれて可哀想です。これ以上ギンジが攻撃しなければいいのですが、とても心配です。ギンジと別にする事は出来ないのでしょうか？

ヤワラは、兄のコウタとと帯広で暮らしていたんですが、避妊薬を飲ませるのに手間がかかり、施設が狭くて争いも起きるので、追い出されたかっこうです。みんな動物園の都合です。

You're right about the place being terrible, but he's not playing. He's showing his teeth. He absolutely HATES that older female chimp, and wants her gone.

これ新しい施設ですよね😥少し期待していただけに、なんとも…残念というか😢　土や植栽を期待していたのですけど。ギンジの気が紛れるような工夫をもっとしてくれないと。

いえ、新しい施設は緑豊かになるとの話でまだ工事が始まってません。前よりわずかに手を加えましたが、まだまだですね。

I don't understand why the "victim" never figths back (or very little) and let the little brat keeps annoying them. And what about the other guy ? Isn't he the alpha male ? If so, he did a very poor job as herd protector.

He is the alpha by default because he's the only male in that enclosure. The other large male in the other enclosure might actually keep him in check, but I doubt it. They have him separated from these guys here probably because he's very violent too. Boredom, and no place to hide, doesn't help these poor creatures.

This is why groups need a dominant Male. Why on earth would a zoo put a rambunctious young Male in with two old females that can't defend themselves. He needs to be in with the dominant Male all the time.

He’s so bored! No one to play with, nothing to climb, nothing at all to release his energy! This zoo doesn’t care at all and DON’T tell me it does. Sadly we humans ruin everything 😢

If that zoo doesn't do something, and they won't, obviously, Ginji will kill her when he gets older. He absolutely hates her. He'd rip her face off if he was bigger. The stress of this barren hellhole, nowhere for the chimps to hide, couldn't help the situation.

I didn’t interpret that to be an act of hatred. It’s more so the result of him being the only male in the enclosure, boredom due to a lack of enrichment and not having another chimp around his age and maturity level to play with. He needs another chimp to teach him what is or isn’t appropriate behavior.

@@freehahahafree he'll get nastier with her. It's not true hatred because it's a chimp, but they have emotions and can hold grudges. He is trying to hurt her. That's not play. A good zoo would separate them. No matter what the underlying cause is, he's trying to hurt her. He was showing his teeth - that's not play. He's just not big enough and bold enough to go all in..... yet. That zoo is a living hell.

@@78LedHead That act of “showing his teeth” is typically a reaction of fear and/or anxiety. I know this zoo’s reputation so I doubt anyone is paying attention as to how often he mistreats her..bu I agree, they should be separated if this behavior is a regular occurrence.
