Wanted to stop at the 53 minute mark and give you some words of encouragement. I have taken many breaks from social media over the past few years because..... overwhelm. It's all so overwhelming and I just shut down. I couldn't put it into words before, but I'm in the middle of a big move and found the same thing happening with packing up. We move a lot, so I'm used to packing, but this year packing just felt overwhelming. And so does social media right now. I smiled when you mentioned the things you "used to do" because I've been thinking on that a lot lately too. So hats off to you for walking away from it all. I will be joining you soon. 💕

We as a family quit our online activity (FB, IN, Twitter, etc) due to the time consuming nature of Social Media. We found a big relief because it was a lot of time freed up for living in the present and reconnecting with our family, friends and community we live in. A huge relief. BTW… Love your podcast !!!

@@samhouston1673 If they are used sparingly, they do not have to be an "enemy". It doesn't have to be all or nothing. I tried Twitter and Instagram, and quit both very quickly. Now I use only FB, and that's for my genealogical work, and keeping in touch with my enormous, far-flung family.

Hi Nicole, so nice to see you and your beautiful projects again. As a fellow Canadian, I always love when you talk about Canadian wool and yarn companies. I always love trying new yarns and it's a bonus when it's Canadian. I also appreciated what you had to say about social media because I can very much relate. I haven't been able to ever fully articulate what it is about facebook or instagram that causes anxiety and uncomfortable feelings in me but it's something that I haven't really engaged with in years. I briefly was on instagram for the first time ever at the beginning of the pandemic and it was a great way to connect and share my art and knitting but you're right, those platforms are set up so that you feel pressure to constantly post and engage with it. I also do not have the mental space for that. My main form of social media is here on youtube watching lovely makers such as yourself share your projects. I love seeing the classic/classy designs you choose and the rustic, natural fibres you work with. Always an inspiration to me. Sending wooly warmth from Winnipeg :)

Thankyou. There are so many comments to this video already that you may not see this but I needed to just say it anyway. As an older person I recognise the transition you have made from paper and people to the incredible idea that so much can be contained on one little tablet/phone, back to paper and people. Your podcasts always enfold and inspire me. As a spinner I get inspirations to make the yarns you talk of then knit some of the patterns. Just to hold a book with a linen binding makes my fingers itch and my heart beat faster! I hope you feel able to remain on you tube. You are much appreciated.☺️

I just did the same, left social media. I’m still watching and listening to podcast and I’ve kept Ravelry. I’m not active on LinkedIn but have kept it as an adress book for business contacts. As you I’ve also deleted most of my apps on my iPhone and I don’t miss a thing! Not for a second that I would switch back and leave this lovely more down to earth way of living. I love to be back in my own life and do real things with one hundred focus again. I have my own company and work as an illustrator and artist and it have meant a lot for my creativity to have again a clear mind! It’s such a joy and I don’t have words for how valuable it has been for me in every way leaving social media. You don’t need to be there :) Life is happening anyway, that fomo you feel, I think it will dissapear. Quite fast too, but that’s me guessing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this topic, it was both interesting and valuable for me. And thank you for all knitting inspiration! Warm hugs from Sweden.

Hi Nicole! I really missed your podcast and I am so glad you came back to us with yet another comforting and gentle podcast. You are so brave to cut down the social media connection…I have been trying and it seams so hard when even my church makes announcements and live transmission on one of the platforms. Bravo on your decision to unplug from social media. We are all different, but S.M. is definitely a time-suck and doesn’t add that much to our lives. It was difficult to decide which colours to choose - there are so many beautiful possibilities. :) so I ended up in deciding for the charcole version with dark iris and their salt and pepper which I will combine with aalpaca-silk-linen-yarn of red wine colour That might be beautiful for the cooler summer evenings. So thank you for your inspiration. Stay well. Regards, Marie. 🌞🧶

I, too, splurged on the "52 weeks of Shawls" book and have been knitting the Windgate shawl by Fiona Alice for several weeks now and I have been knitting it this during this podcast. Happy to be coming in for the home stretch with just a mere 150 or so rows to go. Now, I'll have to explore all those divine shawls you've shown us for inspiration as I haven't even looked yet at the patterns so intent am I to finish this one. I'm knitting it with a Chelsea Yarns fingering 80/10/10 in Robin's Egg, combined with Artyarns Mohair Silk is an almost identical color. Keep up your podcasts - they are restful and very inspirational. The Classic sweater from Espace Tricot is now calling me too.

I am so glad you aren’t stopping with the podcast! But I so understand the dropping of the social media, especially instagram. I too made that decision, although not to the extent you have. I still post occasionally on instagram, and look at who hearts or comments on my posts. But I don’t spend ages on it anymore, or try to keep up or anything like that. I used to try to keep up so that I saw absolutely everything in my feed, plus comment etc. I’m not well known like you, so I can imagine how much time it must have taken you to try to keep up with it - too much time! I too find more time to do what I love to do - read, knit, etc. It’s wonderful! I will have to look up the resources you used to make your decision. It’s funny cause you are knitting so many things that I’ve been eyeing up! That brioche sweater is on my to knit list, as is the classic sweater! I’m currently knitting a half and half wrap too. Lol! I love everything you have shown, and I loved seeing pics and footage of your trip as well. Thanks for sharing with us! Your mother is beautiful - I can see where you came from! :D. Ahhhh, Nicole, watched the entire episode with enormous pleasure from your holiday scenes to your acquisitions. I saved the Windy Fields as well as the Quicksand shawl which you also showed weeks ago to my Ravelry Queue…. So gorgeous! Am still debating whether to splurge on the book or wait for the individual patterns to come out. I am such a slow knitter I would need 52 years to get more than 4 shawls out, but they are so beautiful. I also belong to the paper, put your hands on things Generation and a nice coffee table book is something to cherish! I’m so happy to hear you plan on continuing your podcasts - I look forward to seeing and hearing what you have been doing! Thank you for the gentle place you provide!

I was so excited to see a new video from you in my KZbin feed today! Hooray! Love your palette and your calm energy. Thanks for being a bright spot in a lot of demoralizing craziness going on right now. Wishing you joy…

Beautiful, beautiful knits as always.... I am totally with you on being in the touchy feely world. I love turning the pages of my books and smelling the paper. I very rarely buy anything online as I like to feel. I don’t do a lot of social media but I also found that I was beginning to spend far too much time catching up... I have kept my YT channels to a select few also.... Thank you as always for showing us your beautiful creations 💕🌿

I've been on the fence about the half square wrap, but you may have pushed me over. However, I also love your other projects. Your videos are as lovely as your singing. Happy autumn.

Thank you for this wonderful video Nicole! It’s always a pleasure to see your beautiful knitting. I’m so intrigued by the decorative elbow patches and repairs you mention, I would love to see those as well if you ever care to show them in a future podcast! I’m trying to get better at mending my clothes but my attempts so far haven’t been particularly pretty… Wishing you a wonderful week! xx

Hi I hope.you don't find my message intrusive. I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. I'm another lock down convert and am so enjoying the you tube environment of pod casters. I would say there are half a dozen that I watch with some gusto and yours is the top of the list. I was delighted to see that you had a new video out and I look forward to future episodes and updates in your knitting adventures. Watching your stuff is a great reinforcement of my own little journey. Your finished knitwear, yarn choices.and colour selections hit the mark for me. Sorry for gushing so il sign off by wishing you a mindful and cosy autumn. Julie

Hi Nicole, it has been so lovely to catch up with you and to see your beautiful projects! Thank you for sharing your reasons for staying away from social media for your own well being. It sounds as though this was a very mindful decision for you and though its sad that we won't see your beautiful photos on instagram, I am so happy that you are still happy to keep recording and sharing your beautiful makes and inspirational projects.
