The Georgia Rag, by Albert Gumble - composed in 1910.
Albert Gumble is one of a pair of musical brothers who had some success in the early 20th century. He wrote many songs and rags (including the "Chanticleer Rag" and the "Red Rose Rag") and had a brief stint on Broadway. Read more and see a list of piece on Bill Edward's ragtime resource website: www.perfessorbill.com/ragtime4...

As always, very nice Christina! How the H you (or anyone else for that matter!) play a piece all the way through without making a single mistake is beyond me. Y'all drive me nuts. Y'all ain't human I tell ya'!

Very nice. Question, how many times do you have to practice a number like this before you record it?

I'm curious myself! I think about that quite a bit as I struggle with everything I learn, lol!

Thank you! It varies - I'm usually working on 5-6 new pieces at a time. Something like this I might spend 15-20 minutes working on most days, and then record it after a few weeks, once it feels pretty solid in my fingers and I feel happy with my choice of tempo etc. Longer, more difficult pieces of course take more time, and the ones that I want to keep in my repertoire I will keep working on and often will record them again later after several months.

@flyurway The thing that made the biggest difference in learning music fast for me was accompanying - I had to improve at sight-reading to play things on the fly, and quickly learning 4-6 pieces for each student I worked with. It was lot of cramming music into my short-term memory, but it worked!

Ooo, I don't know that one, but it would pair very nicely with this, indeed! Do you have a favorite recording you recommend?
