33:33 what Matt said here explains exactly how i feel as a German. Father Jason Charrons words to the laity are very encouraging and it was what i needed to hear. Thank you very much for your content. You and other english speaking Catholic KZbinrs are the source of catechesis and spiritual reflection for many of us germans. God bless you

I am not German, but I also live in Germany. I rely on these sources for moral support and courage in the face of so much confusion. It's not only very discouraging out here, but also very confusing and bewildering and despair-inducing. I have had to look outside Germany for Faith support, but Maria 1.0 is excellent and they do very, very important work.

As a former Protestant pastor, church planter, video producer, and apologist, it would have very likely taken me a couple of years more, if ever, to have entered the Catholic Church, if I hadn't discovered the Eastern Byzantine doorway. Moved to the promised land of Steubenville 8 months ago to reboot my spiritual/mental pallete and was blessed to discover that only 40 minutes away, Holy Trinity Church, Fr. Charron, and Jewish Temple worship 2.0 awaited. After 40+ years of attending church---many of those years where I was one of the pastors--I have finally found a place where I can't wait to go and don't want the Divine Liturgy to end. Thanks to Matt and Fr. Jason.

Hi! Can you tell me if you like Steubenville? I keep hearing how it's a place full of Catholic families and I'm intrigued
@ericholmberg2963
@ericholmberg2963 Жыл бұрын
@Gigi L It's complicated. A number of families have moved here looking for the promise land--an understandable fascination given how we are hard wired and how our culture is in free fall. Looking through natural eyes, Steubenville is a shit-show. For those with eyes to see, it may be one of the better places we have to make a stand and move the Kingdom forward. But that's me, a former hippy who for the first four months I was here lived in a tent on a friends farm

@Eric Holmberg I need a friend like that. I'm in NE Ohio and in 4 years I was slowly pulled back to the Catholic church. I also slowly realized after 20 yeas here that I am seriously in the enemy's territory. It's all very convoluted but after a few years on my own with prayer and the Bible I realize my marriage isn't even valid. All this time I couldn't figure out what I did wrong. I left the church after confirmation so I've had a lot of catching up to do. Anyways, any advice to someone without any connections left, as they all blackballed me when I repented. I've thought the same thing, just walk my dog and backpack until I find a proper church. You're very blessed.

As much as absolutely beautiful the Byzantine divine liturgy is, what I love about the Roman Catholic holy mass are actually the moments of _silence_ . For me, there's something intimate and prayerful in these moments of silence, especially during the liturgy of the Eucharist.

“My only regret is that there isn’t a Greek Catholic church in every city in America.” My exact thoughts. I have experienced a handful of Divine Liturgies and have treasured each experience. Sadly I have to travel and hour and a half in any direction to get to one. I hope to figure out how to one day bring one to my area. Don’t even know where to begin for that dream. Fr. 44:10 In this spirit please pray for those few German bishops who publically and at great personal risk opposed all the heretical notions put forth by their colleagues: His Excellency the Most Reverend Rudolf Vorderholzer, Bishop of Regensburg His Excellency the Most Reverend Gregor Maria Hanke, Bishop of Eichstätt His Excellency the Most Reverend Stefan Oster, Bishop of Passau His Excellency the Most Reverend Dominikus Schwaderlapp, auxilary Bishop of Köln His Excellency the Most Reverend Florian Wörner, auxilary Bishop of Augsburg as well as everyone who opposed at least some of the texts and voted "yes" or "neutral" on others. That too took great bravery given the circumstances. Deo gratias! 🙏

I attended St. Elias in the early 2010s and remember Fr. Jason. He is an excellent priest. I really struggle as someone raised Orthodox with the host's assertion that 'any church that doesn't submit to Rome is in schism.' I hear this from many (mostly Latin Rite Catholics) and to hear the Orthodox referred to as schismatic just doesn't foster the kind of positive relationship the Catholic and Orthodox churches need to be working towards. Language matters. As Fr. Jason indicated, the Orthodox are sister churches, as stated by JPII. To call them schismatic is not inviting language and quite frankly will simply cause the Orthodox to dig in their heels and reject any further efforts towards reunion, since they point out with historical justification that communion in the 1st millenium did not mean submission to Rome.

I think Catholics allow Orthodox to recieve the eucharist in a Catholic church and they don't accept Mary's immaculate conception but the Orthodox are told by their clergy that they cannot recieve it from Catholics. So it probably doesn't happen a lot although Catholics would allow it. Generally no one else can though.

Great discussion, but I don't think it's fair to characterize the Western tradition as rigid. In the West, we also didn't use to have pews, and some small Latin churches in Europe didn't have pews until well into the 20th century. I am a medievalist and so I have looked into medieval architecture and liturgy, and medieval churches in the West used to have rood screens with paintings throughout the church, similar to the iconography and iconostasis in the Eastern churches. By recovering the West's medieval heritage, West and East will grow closer to each other.

As a Hebrew scholar, I believe Fr. Charon is pushing the word for “side” or “rib” way too far. I don’t disagree with what he is arguing for morally, but I think one should be cautious about reading too much into words in different contexts. That is also a favorite strategy of progressives.

Pints with Aquinas is quite misleading. Why wasn’t Matt upfront with not being a Roman Catholic before? Puts the wrong perspective on the comments he’s made about the Roman Catholic church before. How can you comment when you jumped ship a long time ago? Would have appreciated honesty about not having even been Roman Catholic for most of this podcast which has misrepresented itself and definitely utilized Roman Catholicism to build it’s brand. That is dishonesty.

I am a regular viewer and love and appreciate your work. I must confess, though, that I find some of what was expressed here a little bizarre. While I love and truly appreciate the Eastern churches and their various liturgies, it seems that you are ignoring the fact that you "are" a Latin Catholic. I have never heard you say anything about your ethnic background, but I am guessing that your Catholicism --at least insofar as you inherited it--came to you via Western Europe. Do you not feel in any way indebted to your own Church? Never in our history has Church jumping been encourage or for that matter tolerated.
