Embark on a historical journey as we meticulously unravel the wartime chronicles of the German heavy cruiser, Admiral Scheer. Discover its strategic significance in the waning days of World War II, from engaging in naval bombardments to its pivotal role in civilian evacuations. The narrative unfolds tragically as we delve into the events of April 9, 1945, when the cruiser faced multiple bombings, leading to its scuttling in Kiel.
Following its dramatic demise, we examine the meticulous scrapping process that began in July 1945 under British supervision. Valuable metals, gunhouses, and turrets were salvaged, leaving behind the bare remnants of the ship. By 1949, as the reconstruction of West Germany commenced, the mangled hull of Admiral Scheer became the foundation of a new naval arsenal's parking lot.
Join us in this detailed exploration of naval history, wartime struggles, and the poignant fate of Admiral Scheer.

Thank you all for watching! This is a reupload, for a number of reasons that aren't very interesting. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed.

In the UK we had a King (Richard III ) buried under a car park. He was found, dug up and now buried in Leicester cathedral. Maybe one day that ship can be exhumed too.

Sad to hear you had to reupload. Still appreciate you talking about my great-grandfather's ship. He was aboard her during the 1940-41 Atlantic commerce raid as an officer aboard her. Its nice the Scheer is getting so more recognition over her late sister Spee, as the Scheer was more successful than her, and is the Kriegsmaines most successful surface ship during the war.

For the life of me I can't imagine why they took it down. I re-watched carefully and it was just as good and accurate the second time around. Thank you for being persistent! Real and accurate history is needed, and I particularly enjoy it. Your channel delivers! edit: typo

It was more on my end, I wanted to double check with permission from the people at the Jervis Bay Association, and they approved so I put it up again. Turns out they’re actually fans of the channel!

Good video. My favorite ships of WW2 are the Hipper class and Prinz Eugene. The Germans made beautiful ships.
