I watched this whole show over the course of a few weeks when it dropped on Disney plus and yeah this show is not only good, but at the same time seems to have warded off the annoying cartoon fandom that seems to coalesce around “lore” cartoons these days. I look up one video about amphibia and all the sudden YT trys to push me down the rabbit hole of these awful clickbait content creators who take the show more seriously than the show itself does. I love Amphibia and TOH in a vacuum but sometimes that can sour the experience a bit.
@kidpixel48182 жыл бұрын
Honestly the closest thing I can think of this show going “dark” is Scratch eventually gets sent to the void of failed phantoms and Molly and her friends and family having to break him out. Which leads her to accidentally taking down the Ghost Council and setting up a new system. (maybe even implementing some of her culture on respecting spirits rather than fearing them) But that’s less becoming “dark” and more of a series final conflict.

I managed to watch all of the episodes (so far) of the show on D+ and no joke, I adore this show. It is very energetic and hilarious, the animation is very fluent and nice (especially by TV standards), the tone of the show and the relationship between Molly and Libby reaches extreme levels of wholesome and sweet (but in a good way), and "The Festival of Lights" is probably my all time favorite episode. Plus it gets extra points for being different and shying away from using the usual show cliches to just do its own thing and offer something sincere and heartwarming rather than dull and laughably edgy. The fact that the creator says that the show will not get dark in S2 makes me very glad because I find the show perfect as it is 🥰💖

The Ghost and Molly McGee is quite the fun and cozy show. We need some more shows like this instead of hoping that every animated show has to be plot driven and plenty of serious moments. Sometimes it’s good enough to have show that’s mostly lighthearted fun. While I like Scratch as much as Molly & Libby, I can see how you and others aren’t a fan of him. There are some moments in the show that make me go “does he need to be in this episode/scene?”. It’s like the writers are a bit worried about episodes that don’t have all the main characters in it. Maybe later down the line they’ll get the courage to do some episodes that don’t have Scratch (or other mains) in it. Not every episode needs to have all the main characters in it. I mostly like Scratch because I grew up watching his voice actor in Aqua Teen Hunger Force. And Scratch is basically a Disney friendly version of Master Shake. And I tend to like jerkish characters like that. Yup, it’s weird how there are fans of Amphibia and The Owl House that are acting like they are super serious 90% of the time. Like Amphibia fans are upset about there not being enough serious plot episodes in the 3rd season so far. It’s like they forgot that seasons 1 & 2 had a decent amount of not so plot relevant and serious episodes in it too (even with the 2nd season picking up the pace of the plot, it still has a good amount of fillery like episodes) and that there’s still half a season to go for that show. I’d classify Amphibia as a fun one-off adventure show that has the occasional serious and plot moments/episodes. Even The Owl House was like that in the 1st season. The 2nd season picked up the pace, but it’s also going a bit too fast for certain fans liking. And to make things weirder, I’ve seen some act like shows like Craig of the Creek need to be like that. So far the only noticeable confirmed LGBT+ stuff in the show is that one of Molly’s teachers (Mrs Roop) is casually mentioned being gay in the episode “No Good Deed”. Hope there’ll be some more like that. And yup, Libby is precious along with her relationship with Molly. And her dynamic with Scratch is pretty fun too. Hope there are some more episodes centered around them too later down the line. I wonder if they’ll do some more with Andrea in later episodes. And I’m not saying that as a shipper trying too hard to make her and Molly a new Lumity. Neat video overall!

My favorite episode is also the Miracle of Lights, and my favorite part is Libby’s poem about the tale of the Maccabees, and the origins of Hanukkah. I live in Texas, and one of my closest friends that I love more than life is Jewish. She always struggled with being proud of her family’s heritage due to the stupid amount of AB assholes that live in our state. So when we watched the series, and she listens Libby’s poem, she was crying because of how happy she felt to feel represented on TV that wasn’t super anti-Semite. Bless this show for having such a wonderful character like Libby.

Your brief comment about shows handling the Civil War made be think back to that one Disney live-action show (Maybe Girl Meets World??) where a teacher character side stepped it by saying the Civil War was caused by ~disagreements between parties~ and the message was "Have civil discussions between each other even though you have disagreements :)". They also tried to compare the Civil War to the kids protesting homework in class. Oh, and I don't think they mentioned slavery once. Even if they did, it was so brief that I can hardly remember it. I don't think the bar can't get lower than that. Anyway, the Ghost and Molly McGee is like a show made of warm pastries. Every bite is sweet and comforting, and it's just a nice show to sit down to if you're stressed or a wee bit tired.
@uncolaman992 жыл бұрын
I was very disappointed when "The Simpsons" had Lisa's class say that the Civil War was about slavery... and then Lisa Simpson "corrected" them, saying that it was about tariffs, state's rights, and other things. Lisa was supposed to be the smart one. And the show's narrative sided with her!

Just a note here, 8:01 is NOT the holocaust, it's the pogroms. Certain background details can clue you into this, as well as the generations Libby was talking about leading back farther than most people with holocaust survivor relatives. The point was a story about a kid coming to terms with loss and not letting his mother's family toxic shit ultimately kill him or the people around him.
