@GF MEMES There's a lot of "Gravity Falls" in this show given that Alex Hirsch is credited as a creative consultant in addition to voicing King and Hooty. There are "Gravity Falls" easter eggs in "The Owl House" such as Bill Cipher being included on King's Demons 101 board (He's on the green post-it). There's a wanted poster of Eda in the "Gravity Falls: Lost Legends" book. You'll find it in the Underground Black Market in the first story. It also includes messages written in a secret code hidden in the backgrounds of the episodes. Also the first letter of each episode title is spelling out a sentence. My brother has been trying to get me into the owl house but I was very skeptical after the first episode. From what I could gather of the message it seemed that they were going the individual is of is important and it doesn't matter what other people think. It's societee you can't do this so I was very cautious about what they were saying and did not want to watch it based on the many themes that other shows have had in previous years. Individuality is important but there are do have to be guidelines set in place to ensure that it doesn't go too far and based on what you said in this video I might give it a shot again. P.S. I love your videos Lily. I was wondering if you were gonna make a video about Ross and Rachel. I started watching friends and I'm in the middle of the season where Ross has married Rachel and he has now refused to get a divorce because he doesn't want to. To be honest, I'm on the fence when it comes to theories and predictions concerning a favourite show. While it does get people to talk about it and have fun while doing so, it can put high expectations on the creators and destroy what was amazing about their shows from the beginning. So it is best to balance it
@hazelhen54014 жыл бұрын
I don't think theres anything wrong with fans theorizing. Its all good fun. Its stupid - but isn't the stupidness what makes it even better? The harm comes from a lack of reality between both fans and the creators. Theories are immensely fun to think about, complex conspiracies and finding patterns where they probably don't exist - but its when people EXPECT THOSE THEORIES TO HAPPEN from a show that isn't built around that there are problems. Gravity Falls? Built around that idea - understandably annoying if it ended in a lame way. My Little Pony? Its a slice of life/adventure show about cute moe girl horses. Expecting your pattern-seeking and theories to blossom from that is delusional. But whats even WORSE is when creators don't understand what they are doing enough to not make stupid decisions. Maybe alot of fans SAY they WANT something - but people are almost always WRONG about what they want. Humans are very very very good at not knowing what they need. Its why things like voting for stuff can become so disappointing - we suck at taking everything into context when we get excited. A team not being able to go "THIS is what our creation is and THIS is what it needs to do before it ends HERE" and instead going "lets make it life forever by riding the expectations of what excited people think they want" is how things turn into shit.

The instant Eda said "No one likes having a curse, but if you take the right steps its... manageable." I was back in the doctor's office the first time I was being shown how to give myself insulin. The story where Eda ran out of her elixir? That same thing happened to me; right down to scrambling to find a place I could get my supplies refilled; and getting gouged because my health insurance wouldn't cover my purchasing insulin before it was time! I may not have gotten scammed by a little pig demon; but I sure felt about as screwed as Eda did when she was in chains.

To be honest, the show so far is great. I love the writing, but there have been episodes that have left me pretty wary on how they’ll address character progression later on. The writing in one episode in particular, Lost in Language, was some of my least favourite, and left me angrier than actually satisfied. Ah yes, mad at a cartoon, im living my best adult life. This episode was a perfect set up for some self aware reality checks for Luz and small character progression. Weirdly enough however, out of all the ACTUAL problems Luz has caused, the two she got blamed for technically weren't even her fault in this episode. She was blamed for reading amity's diary when in actuality, she tried to hide it from her siblings as they are quote by quote, her private thoughts. She respected this, and once realizing what she had opened, closed it IMMEDIATELY. This was actually one of the few moments in this show where Luz shows some real impulse control instead of acting out spontaneously. actually, it's one of the few cases of her impulse control from this ENTIRE episode. Prior she had just been jack shitting around a library with magic she didn't even understand, with people she barely knew. I was honestly expecting Luz to explain herself to Amity about the mix-up, while also apologizing for how she should have been more aware or conscious of how *being* with amity's siblings would make her feel. You know, a feel good conversation about how sometimes she underestimates or overlooks certain peoples social cues and feelings because of her own hyperactive and rambunctious personality. That she was only trying to befriend them to get closer with her. This was the PERFECT moment for some self aware progression, and heartfelt bonding between the two. but instead, Luz essentially apologizes on BEHALF of Amity's siblings who by the way, would have went to steal her diary regardless of Luz being there, most likely. Not only that, but Luz is made out to be the reason they both got attacked in the first place. You know, when they almost DIE. This is confirmed by Amity writing "Luz must right a wrong" in the book to have them saved. If you go back to the episode, you will actually notice that it is once again Amity's siblings who grab her hand, and force her to doodle on the children's book. She didn’t even willingly vandalize the poor creature .Here, she is actively being socially punished for being the victim of her doormat personality in the presence of older, intimidating teenagers, and not having enough courage to stand up for herself. Worse however, is she is actually manipulated into BELIEVING she was the cause of all their problems that day. No actual problem arose from this episode was directly because of Luz herself. The real antagonists in this entire episode are her twin siblings, which are essentially cast aside to have their drama pinned onto Luz, even when it makes no sense to do so, and could be portrayed better if not done this way. A better way to have written this character development and character bonding: Have Luz explain how she had only been trying to get closer to Amity by befriending her siblings. That drive led her to letting them walk over her, especially because they’re older than her, even when she knew what they were doing was wrong at times. She understands that she needs to try and curve her impulsivity. And to communicate her feelings better, even if it might upset others (aka, telling off amity’s siblings) and to become more self aware of those around her. That maybe , a friendship isn't worth pursuing if you have to allow and excuse bad behavior from said friend. that she understands even good intentions cannot be justified because of these flaws she exhibited. This makes great leeway into Amity sympathizing with Luz, realizing her own socially destructive and rude behavior,, while also getting character progression on luz’s side. This would have been much more of an emotionally invoking resolution then just being like “Sorry i read ur diary which i didnt, and creating a monster which i didnt, but here borrow my book please dont hate me okay bye”

So this comment is more of a general observation of what people talk about and an address of your issue with cartoons doing down the darkness hole. So I don’t think it’s because these shows have bad writers necessarily, but because they’re bad cartoon /readers/. Okay, let me explain. I was re-reading Thomas Foster’s /Reading the Silver Screen/ and came across this sentence on page 98 that I think is the answer to way this keeps happening: “People don’t win cinematography Oscars with medium shots, but perhaps they should: we viewers need them.” Now, obviously, Professor Foster was discussing the film technique, but I think it’s true for narratives, too. Think about it. When people think about a show, they don’t remember the little episodes, they remember the big ones. And it’s worse with the internet, because when critics single out episodes of a show, they single out the big ones. I’m going to call this the “Organ Stealing Dan Phantom Effect”, but if it has a real name please let me know. The Organ Stealing Dan Phantom Effect is basically just that people don’t remember anything but the big shockers, which were actually the outliers in the shows they were in. The two examples I used to name this phenomenon are /Invader Zim/ (Dark Harvest) and /Danny Phantom/ (The Ultimate Enemy). Both of those episodes are outliers compared to the rest of the show, but they’re practically the only episodes people talk about! Both give a false sense of serious to the shows being discussed, and everyone forgets that there’s an episode of IZ where we just watch Dib watch Zim eat waffles for eleven minutes. What I’m trying to say is this: the effect of the Organ Stealing Dan Phantom Effect is that amateur media readers don’t realize that intensity only works in small bursts before the audience burns out, and so if the writer is good at writing but not reading, they make a huge mess of things. I mean, they could be bad writers too. That’s always a possibility.

i sense a contradictory you say at 4:59 that people who get worked up over a character cause they're voiced by a certain person they'd like King... yet a thing you keep mentioning about Eda is that she's voiced by Wendie Mallick also eh, Alex Hirsh is a good voice for King, but i think people like him because he's cute and funny, and that's what I and others watch shows for i guess.

Fan Theory: Not having a coven is the reason for Eda's curse.
@shakurburton93584 жыл бұрын
Nah, I have to humbly disagree - that doesn't sound all that smart, writing wise. I think a better idea would be that Eda slacked off in honing her skills and accidentally cursed herself, thinking she was making herself stronger, when in reality...

I immediately loved this show so much and I agree with everything you said about it also it's so nice to just have something fun to watch that doesn't try to get u hooked on a Dense Plot Meant to Make You Binge. I think the fact it's weekly cable and not a Netflix all at once show has something to do with it

Another note about the fandom shit: People literally saw Luz and Willow being good and cute and pure, but still decided to ship Luz and Amity DESPITE AMITY NOT WANTING ANYTHING TO DO WITH LUZ AND ALWAYS BEING IN CONFLICT WITH EACH OTHER. It feels like a boiled down version of harry x malfoy with the genders swapped.

Ok then what do you think they're going to do with Lilith then? I don't see her 'doing a heel turn' necessarily but I can see her wanted to help her sister over serving her government
@umbralflow68834 жыл бұрын
The only theories worth looking in to is the who cast the curse, kings backstory, and Luz's father might be involved. The last one being a big stretch. She is dating Alex, and has worked on gravity falls and ducktales. Both having mysteries for ppl to invest time in to. So this show having a few wouldn't be a surprise.

@MrMewsKitty4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, if they want to ever redeem Lilith for any reason they're gonna have to work hard to do that. Laying on a curse on someone, an extremely dark spell, is something GRAVELY serious. Depending on the effects of the curse it can just as easily kill someone as it transformed Eda (Showing as she was a wild beast in that form with no regard to who she attacked) Like, if one of my siblings did that to me, I'd probably be mad at them for the rest of my life and my trust in them completely shattered. Yes they betrayed the coven for me but that doesn't make up for years of torment and worry of turning into a beast that could kill a shit ton of people if left unchecked. All because of selfish gain, jealous, etc. They did a good start with her taking on the curse as well, so now they gotta work off to show how she's even worth the tiniest bit of forgiveness. In summary I want Lilith to die in a hole because family betrayal has a personal hole in my heart so screw her.
