My wife and I booked to stay a night there about a year ago. We knew of its reported history and there was some very dark energies there. So much so that neither of us wanted to stay the night. We had a fairly nice meal in the restaurant part then Packed our things and left having paid for the night. I don’t believe in ‘ghosts’ per se but there were certainly creepy dark energies.

Born and raised not a mile from the grotto,it was always the first pub to get that elusive under 18 pint. Story was a pint was left on a table at closing time ,it was always empty in the morning. It was bought by vaux in the late 1800's and they built the first lift shaft

You should go to Hartlepool headlands pub the cosmopolitan....its very haunted ..my aunt n uncle ran it in the 90s my cousin saw the ghost of a man upstairs wearing a dark black hat in the living room ...downstairs the pub often has poltergeist activity ...there are aido tunnels running to the church nearby from the celler
