I live in Worcester and my house was actually built in the mid 1800's on the old rubbish tip and the curator of the museum said it was the site whereby they dumped the debris from the battles of Worcester and Powick bridge including the horses. Prior to that I lived on Red hill so called as the soldiers (not the officers) were taken to Whittington Tump and buried in this ancient site. There is a farm there and it has been reported that the occupants of the farm hear the sound of the carts bringing the dead for burial.
@ghostcasebook12663 ай бұрын
Oh goodness me that’s a bit creepy! How interesting. I suppose they just dumped the bodies as there were so many, sadly. 🙏👻🙋♀️

@ECWAlex My mother worked at the Commandery at Worcester which is a museum and that is how I know a lot about the battles. The officers were buried in the churchyard which was adjacent to the cathedral now sadly gone. The graveyard itself is now under a roundabout and shopping area at the top end of the high street. This was done by developers in the 1960's who managed to destroy most of the cities history. The bodies were never moved so are still there. Ironically the foot soldiers were buried in an ancient site which still exists which is located at Whittington and can be clearly seen from the M5 at junction 7. I do not know whether there is a plaque in the cathedral to commemorate your captain but it could have been in the destroyed church and lost to history. I hope this is helpful.
@enidcronin97043 ай бұрын
@ghostcasebook. I never thought I knew much about the battles but I surprised myself by what I do know. Much of the cities history is oral handed down generational but the city museum curator confirmed that a lot is fact. A lot of the place and street names reflect the battles.

The sound of drums drawing nearer, gasps/sighs of men breathing their last, a flashing light - men highly traumatized by the carnage they had just had to witness, getting triggered by an oncoming thunderstorm and reliving it all once more. Poor guys, really. War is such an atrocity

I use to work at The Wallace Collection many years ago. We would often have functions after hours. The Sealed Knot would come once a year. Volunteers from the staff would be asked to do overtime to cover the function. We had a gallery Attendant called Reg Dendy who would never work the function for the Sealed Knot. When l asked him why he wouldn't work it he said, 'Because my ancestor was Sargent at arms at the Palace of Westminster and signed Charles l death warrant :)

Loved hearing about the ghosts in this time period. I just returned to California from England, where I visited the Victoria Arms pub in Old Marston outside Oxford. We had dinner in the exact spot Oliver Cromwell sat. I didn't know much about this period in history when I visited, but when I got back, I happened upon the movie "The Devil's Mistress" on Netflix and a documentary about Charles I. Fascinating time period. Such a turbulent time period and so many ghosts in Great Britain!

You do realize many wars are in response to the oppression and subjugation of a people by a tyrant or a neighboring country. Should people just capitulate, cower and accept tyranny or should they fight for their beliefs? Is it "ridiculous" to resist oppression? You have the seeds of tyranny being sown in your country now....

There is a legend of a ghostly headless horseman on the road at Chipping Warden near Banbury possibly Civil War and another at Edgehill both on the road, another also at Cropredy. My relatives have all lived in the area over the years including Middleton Cheney (seen as Cheyney on the map) i never knew about the Battle 6th May, near there. My aunt used to live at Avon Dasset too near the Burton Dasset hills. Also the legend of a ghostly Black Dog at Chipping Warden. Quite a few aircrew lost in ww2 from Chipping Warden airfield, with local crashes in training, sad days. Also a B-17 headed off to war in ww2 and was aborted so tried to land at RAF Gaydon which crashed in bad weather all killed sadly. Tragic times all Loved the video, such a nice voice too. I absolutely loved these ghost stories. I can understand the unrest of these spirits. Someone once suggested ghosts were restless spirits because they didnt know they were dead, and were frustrated trying to communicate to the living. Someone else suggested they were spirits who had not finished what they were destined to do, so couldn't rest. I love that you featured my birth town Nottingham, and a place not far from me now, Castle Ashby. Thankyou for this thrilling video.

Once you start, I get drawn in and it's over much too soon. I'm not much of a believer in ghosts, but you weave in so much history as well. Being a Yank, my knowledge of many of the early periods of British history is lacking ( I'm more of a modern military history person) so it is much appreciated. Very, very interesting. Your channel is brilliant! I really love your way of telling the stories and your voice! And there is always more in it for me, because there is something odd in my perception: whenever I watch _your_ videos there comes smells with it. Odeurs from the places you show and the feeling that I'm able to feel the air from there (sometimes dry, sometimes moistered (right word?)). I'm German but I've always been drawn to England and Great Britain. I feel oddly at home there. It's very likely that it's just me and my imagination, but I only have these funny things happen to me with your videos. A really interesting and informative video. Thank you! I hope you don’t mind, but it has reminded me of an experience I had. I want to start by saying I don’t expect to be believed. I am not a medium, or a psychic, however sometimes I experience ‘feelings’ and have seen ghosts. The event took place in July 2009. At the time I lived in a town called Brandon in Suffolk. It was late afternoon, warm and sunny, and I had decided to drive from Brandon to Bury St Edmunds using the country roads. I had been thinking about a CD that I was hoping to buy in Tescos. The road I used takes you through the villages of Culford, Fornham St Genevieve, Fornham St Martin and around Fornham All Saints. Just as you pass Fornham St Martin there are some open fields to the left of the road. At this point I happened to glance at one of the fields and I had a ‘vision’ in my head of lots of men, gathered together, they looked like soldiers, not modern. They were holding longbows and swords. I got an immense sense that a battle had taken place in that area. Afterwards, I did research battles around Bury St Edmunds, but I couldn’t find information on that particular area. I felt a bit silly, and told myself that I just have an overactive imagination. Fast forward to 2023. A friend of mine had her baby shower in a hotel in Fornham All Saints called ‘All Saints’ hotel. At the end of the party I was making my way downstairs, when I noticed some signs hanging on the walls. I decided to stop and read them. Imagine my shock when it was information about a battle that took place in 1173 in the Fornhams: All Saints, St Geneieve and St Martin area, between King Henry IIs army and rebel invaders. The artists impression of the soldiers looked exactly as they had in my ‘vision’. To say I was shocked and a little bit scared is an understatement. Up until that moment in time I had not been aware that there had been a battle there, it wasn’t a long battle and there isn’t much information about it.

Another fantastic work of mysterious spookiness - Thank you, Nicola! 🤩 It was so interesting to hear these tales of a terrible time for our ancestors. As an aside, many people did leave England during the 1640's, sailing to America. I always have to wonder if this conflict spurred them on to a place so far away. Thank you Nicola. I have to do catch up, as I wasn't able to watch at the time, in spite of having a reminder set up. Civil wars are especially traumatic I think, and apart from the physical distresses, must involve so much mental anguish. Not only are families, friendships and communities fractured, but the loss of that sense of security , which a government give (however bad the goverment) must be terrifying. Many years ago, so long that I can't recall title nor author, I read about ghosts of the American Civilwar/war between the states, and it seemed to me there, too, that much of the haunting was people set adrift in every way, lost in their familiar lands. I think the stories you tell here give that idea too, and I would love to hear more! Many, many thanks.

Another fantastic video 🙏🏻, incidentally.. Devizes in Wiltshire has a rich history associated with civil war ghosts.... Battle field noises heard in the mist on the nearby "roundaway hill" and numerous sightings in the many inns and coaching inns in the town itself. Many unfortunate battlefield souls were buried ner and within the town following the battle,,... Also the famous nearby "Avebury manor" has been known for activity.

When Charles II returned to the throne, he had Cromwell's body exhumed and hung. His head was then cut off and displayed on a pike. The same fate was used against many of his confederates. Quite what benefit the King derived from this, l can only guess. Great video. Much thanks.

You are very welcome and thank you. I did cover some of the stories you mentioned in my Westminster Abbey video along time ago 🙏👻🙋♀️

@@ghostcasebook1266 Must have missed that one. lt is a well documented fact anyway. The head may still exist. The prisoner at Glamis may have been Prince Albert Victor. lf they ever let this irascible blunt instrument of an old investigator have the run of the castle, l may get truly to the bottom if it. Chance would be a fine thing. God bless.

@ghostcasebook1266 I don't know if you've seen it yet or not, but I did talk to my mom and comment back to you on the Las Vegas video. There was even more than I remembered or knew about. I know you are working on a lot, so not rushing you or anything. Just wanted to make sure to let you know I did get back to you on that, it just took a few days.

I fought in many of the battles - in the 1970s, as part of the Sealed Knot Society. See that man in the front row with a huge long pike? That was me! (well, one of them at least.)
