@Spookyiff idont think you can keep one even if you live in florida, its illegal to own one and its required by law if you spotted one to call someone immediately that can properly take care of them (they will obviously kill them but i guess you dont want to just kill them since they probably have eggs inside)

They need enough soil(I use cocofiber) so that they can fully bury themselves. And you shouldn't have any thing hard, like pot water bowls ect. Because if they fall they can crack their shells. They also need to be fed a protein source once/twice a week(i use fish flakes) aswell as the cuttlefish being availble to them 24/7. Love your videos and your Gals are cute x Oh and there are different species of Giant african land snails which all have different living conditions such as humidity and heat. If you are thinking about getting them as a pet please do your research
@JossersJungle5 жыл бұрын
Great advice! I'll see about making the right changes! :-D
@PoppyHapalopus5 жыл бұрын
I second this, except fish flakes doesn't have a lot of protein. GALS go hogwild for beef (whole or minced), which is more expensive, but also healthier :)
@skye50835 жыл бұрын
@@PoppyHapalopus I guess it's just personal opinion, I know loads of people who use fishflakes as a protien source. But yes you are right you can give them other things, pinkies, mince, dried mealworms, i use snail mixes also that I buy from other Gals owners. But like i said I advise those who are thinking of getting them to do their own research as there is alot more to looking after Gals then what was shown in this video 😊

Ive just got 3 babies as a gift off someone and ive googled and googled how to take care of them am so scared incase they dont make it. Ive put lettuce and cucumber in with them and spray the tank daily, theyve buried theirselves and a dont see them move much how will they be eating. Any advice would be great i love them and would hate anything to happen to them. Thanks in advance:)
@skye50835 жыл бұрын
@@siobhanames1479 hey so it's quite normal for them to bury, any chance you know what species they are? If not maybe join a group on facebook and post photos. After you know the species you will be able to find out what temperature and humidity they need. You should get a thermostat that reads heat&humidity to ensure you are getting them right. As for food cucumber are fine for a treat in my opinion but aren't very nutritious. And lettece is fine as long as it's not ice berg. You can feed alot of things like carrort, courgette, potatoes. Do not feed them anything with citrus. Try googling Giant african land snail diet. There is a lot of information. I would definitely recommend joining a Giant african land snail group on facebook. So many friendly helpful people that will be able to give you all the information you need. I would put it all here but it would take me ages to list their diet ect. Hope this helps

Hey, first of all, im sorry for grammatical faults but im from Germany. Anyway, I hope I can help a bit. 1: Yes,African landsnailes are the biggest landsnailes you can find. (But there are some bigger snailes which live in the water. (Syrinx aruanus) But there is not "the african landsnail breed" there are many different african landsnail breeds (Achatina Fulica, Achatina Achatina…) These breeds have some differences. (Different needs, different body sizes, different amount and size of eggs etc.) Your snail looks like an albino "lisachatina reticulata" 2: These snails can eat almost every vegetable and fruit except very sour, spicy or salty things because it would damage their skin. They also need a calcium source. If they dont get enough of it, the shell will not grow and they will not produce many eggs. In the worst case they will loose their shell and die after it. You can give the snails calcium in form of cuttlefish. You should also put some crushed cuttlefish into the soil because snails absorb it over the skin. Your snails seem to prefer sitting at the glass which is a sign of a not optimal soil quality. 3: "Snails are not very social" is a big fault. Snails like to interact with each other and in Germany its not recommended to only have one african landnail. If you have about 4 snails you will see that they like to sit, "walk/slime", eat… near to each other. If you are holding only one snail because of the fear that they will reproduce (and they will!) you are egoistic and a snail is not the perfect pet for you. Even if they are small and silent, they have their needs. 4: Yeah these snails will reproduce very fast. Its not allowed to release the eggs or babysnails into the wild. What you can do is freezing the eggs after founding them or selling/spending them as animal food for snakes, fish etc. Its not a nice feeling but its better than having thousands of snails, with broken shells in a tiny tank. Freezing the eggs is probably the best solution. If there are more questions, im willing to help. Greetings from the German potato xD

You can't purchase them as pets here in the US, I read that you can get a permit to get them for educational purposes (classrooms, zoo, ect)... or go out with a bucket in Florida or California and get one in anyone's garden, unfortunately due to how invasive they are I'm told they are easy to find in southern gardens. I have only seen one when I was a kid in the south east, but wow they get big!

It's ridiculous here in the USA. I can understand they're illegal but they should only be illegal in warmer states like in the South, but they shouldn't be illegal in areas where it gets freezing cold in the North and couldn't survive during the winter months in case they're accidentally released in your garden if you get what i mean. So illegalizing them all throughout the United state including states where it gets cold is the dumbest law ever. Quite frankly it should be a common sense thing, and it must be enforced.
