I read somewhere that one of the actors went to a premiere of this movie in their home town incognito; they had slunk out embarrassed due to everyone laughing at the 'monster'. 7:42 ...,...wut? 12:27 again, ...wut?

The funny thing is that when antimatter collides with regular matter, they both obliterate each other and release 100% of their energy. The giant claw monster would've exploded as soon as it hit the Earth's outer atmosphere.

I like this movie. Yes, the actors hadn't seen the monster before the grand opening, that effect was added later. This movie isn't the worst as in it isn't a boring slow dreck. As you say, well acted, and due to the special effects it will be remembered where so many other movie monsters of that age are already forgotten. It works great as comedy! And a piece of said time. Good? Well, eh comedic yes!

1 - Sorry to do this, but you could have just compared Canadian folklore with American myths about Bigfoot, Thunderbird, the Jersey Devil, Mothman et al. 2 - Believe it or not, while Giant Claw is an abomination for the goofy-bad creature FX, The Werewolf, made around the same time by the same producer, Sam Katzman (who also made the 1949 Batman serial) is actually a worse movie. You know how this one is almost passable but for the creature? Not so for The Werewolf.

The United States didn't lose the Korean War. At the very least it was a stalemate, although I would call it a victory, since North Korea started the war to take over the South Korea, and they failed miserably. South Korea wouldn't exist if the United States had lost. Vietnam, on the other hand, was a disaster, so you could easily argue that it was a defeat (and yes, I would call giving up and abandoning the fight a defeat). I don't mean to go off topic here, but as a history major whose Grandfather served during the Korean War, I couldn't help but correct that error.

SkySlasher, Varan the Unbelievable came out in 1958 after both Rodan and The Mysterians. Varan was done in black and white likely to save money. This was also in Japan. The Giant Claw is an American movie. Most American giant monster movies in the 1950s were done in black and white again likely to save money and to hide the bad effects more.

About it not being that bad (I watched the review in two parts), James Rolfe, really a back-handed fan of the work rather than a critic, said essentially the same thing. Like the false notion that Number 3 was Nana's older sister in Elfen Lied, certain things pick up steam as they chug across the internet, repeated and repeated. I've a feeling at least some of the later reviewers weren't used to being bad SF/F gourmands, and that puppet blew their minds. Even the BS Science wasn't the worst in a Sam Katzman movie; again for that, see The Werewolf. You know, if Toontown were for real, Buzz Buzzard could have sued the producers of this film so bad...

I remember when I finally saw this in my mid-to-late 20's from the Sam Katzman Collection - and by the time I finished watching it, I was eager to carve this ET turkey REAL slow! And I seriously had nightmares about my DICK breaking off and mutating into that freak of low-budget B-movie nature! What a waste of two good leading actors who deserved better than they got, some noirish atmosphere, professional cinematography and better-than-average dialogue - for the time. And to think that this was the same producer who gave us Ray Harryhausen's IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA and EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS. (Oh well, love your new shelf additions and camera!) Now for the really good stuff with RODAN!

alexthehunted, You just love to to stereotype 1950's America, don't you? Be advised the lion's share of the best American movies ever made came out of the 1950's. Back then actors and starlets had to have talent or end up in these very low budget pictures. They weren't overpaid, and these film makers had no CGI to compensate for continuity errors.

@@poochuno8822 No, sorry, CGI did NOT exist in the 50s! Jesus, the very first use of true CGI was in Westworld in 1973. But if you want to consider 1973 as "the 50s" then sure, you're correct. 😏 And by the way, Godzilla's atomic breath in the original 1954 film was hand-animated.

YOU, you are a part of the problem with having younger individuals review older films. There is a TV show from around this same time period call Rocky and Bullwinkle where the narrator did exactly this same thing. You have no frame of reference, obvious from your nonsense rant against 'Mitch'. First, it is established that Mitch had served in the Air Force during the war thus he knew how to fly a military plane even if he was just an ELECTRICIAN. As for Mitch saying the object was a 'big as a battle ship' that is because battle ships were NEWER than Zeppelins, so naturally the Hindenburg did not instantly leap to his mind. Yes, he kissed her while she was asleep, kind of like Prince Charming did in literally EVERY story that features him. Why? Because in some cases--and this is one of them--it is seen as ROMANTIC. Yes, I agree this is one of the worst monsters of all times, and why? As you pointed out, because they used INFERIOR Mexican 'talent'. Oh, and do you know what British film is worse than this one? "DON'T OPEN THE WINDOW". Talk about cheap effects. Hammy acting. And stupid writing. Yeah, and this film was made in the 50s, but Don't Open the Window was made in the 70s.

Indeed. While the effects are pretty shoddy, I'll have to at least praise the tight editing, which maintains a frenetic pace to the action. And with the cream of female casting in monster movies serving little more purpose than inept scream queens, it was nice to see a woman take a more pro-active role in the action, and who doesn't freak out every two seconds.
