This movie is an underrated guilty pleasure! The animatronic Snake was designed and created by Walt Conti Productions, and the computer Visual Effects were done by Sony Pictures Imageworks.
@JOSH-lw2jv Жыл бұрын
Walt Conti & his team also did effects work on *"Deep Blue Sea",* *"STAR TREK IV",* *"The Perfect Storm",* *"The Abyss",* *"Flipper"* (the 1996 film version starring Paul Hogan & Elijah Wood), and the original *"Free Willy"* trilogy. He also was in the 2003 Shark Week documentary: *"Anatomy of a Shark Bite",* helping out with one of his animatronic sharks for a reenactment to the infamous shark attack on Dr. Erich Ritter while filming a shark documentary with Nigel Marven.

Fun Fact: Actor Jonathan Hyde played Warren Westridge in Anaconda... as well as Bruce Ismay in Titanic (Ismay was the highest-ranking executive of the White Star Line on board the ship in real life). Both movies released in the same year, as Klayton mentioned. And and also also, Owen Wilson has only ever died in two movies, to my knowledge: Anaconda (1997), and Armageddon (1998).

This is one of my favorite underrated creature features films And I can’t help but theorize that this movie along with “Congo” , Lake Placid” , “Komodo , “king cobra” , even Peter benchleys “Creature” could connect in the Jurassic Park/world saga just at different parts of the world .

This movie is an absolute classic! I just rewatched it last night. I wish they still made movies like this, but nowadays people act like every movie has to win an Oscar to be “worth watching”. I saw a LOT of giant animal attack movies growing up and believe me people: Anaconda is one of the BEST examples. It’s also really well paced, I’d say.

I used to love watching a B snake movie on the Sci-Fichannel (before it was the Sy-Fy channel) called Boa vs. Python. I believe it was technically the 3rd installment of a B snake movie line. Python, Boa, and then Boa vs. Python. Plot was something about a giant Python was eating people in the subway so these military scientists mind control a giant Boa (was it a cyborg? Idfk) to fight it. Absolutely terrible movie but I loved it so much as a kid 🤣

Oh I recall that one! It wasn’t a robot. It had a high tech headset placed on it so that they could monitor the (I don’t remember which) snakes movements. I don’t remember much about it tbh- except- oddly- the part where they got to watch the two screw instead of fight in the end.

This movie is responsible for my fascination with snakes as a kid. In fact, I distinctly remember being incredibly disappointed when I found a book about anacondas in the library and saw how goofy they look in real life. There was a picture of one that straight up looked like Kermit. Even worse when I actually read the book and found out how slow and lethargic they are, especially on land.

The snake animatronics are fairly well done, and I enjoy the creepy score and teen horror vibe. Everything else to do with the film is stuffed with a lot of off beat humour, but in terms of the kind of humorous pulp adventure B-movie with a budget that we saw a lot in the 90s, it just didn’t quite reach the levels of Congo, or The Mummy where that genre really reached its peak.

Only 10 minutes to discuss Anaconda? Barely seconds to bring up the sequels. Dude, part 3 has a genetically engineered snake vs the Hoff! But to go on about the movie itself. A jungle setting that might as well have been Venus to us kids back in the 90s, a giant snake that all of us were certain was real because our friend's uncle told us it was. If this movie had quicksand then not a single one of us would have made it out alive. That is not even including my lifelong fear of snakes that happened before this movie but this certainly didn't help. Should have replaced the boat captain, Mateo with Danny Trejo. Add in some carvings of the Shirishama tribe warriors fighting the snakes to build up that B story a little more, Serone killing his friend because he doesn't want to share the money, and a bigger death for Owen Wilson and I swear this movie would have gone over 200 million. Still one of my favorite films and can say without remorse that I have seen it more times than any of the Jurassic movies and certainly more times than Goldblum.

I honestly think this movie is a lot of fun and very enjoyable. Although I think this movie came out during what I tend to call the Jungle Era of movies that happened during the mid to late 90’s, which kind of started with the whole African Era that also happened before. The movie that I think switch the transition from Africa to just random Jungles was Jumanji. Both are trends that sadly don’t get talked about as much as the Dino Craze, but I do think they were two trends from the 90’s that should be recognized.

A few years after this movie was released, I was on a flight to Australia and it was part of the in-flight movie lineup. Now, back then, there was only one screen/everyone had to watch the same movie. So, I was glad they had Anaconda on the lineup. Except... they showed it at dinner. Rather, they lined up the film so that dinner coincided with John Voit being vomited up by the snake. Once that happens, dinner is basically over! And EVERY FLIGHT we had in Australia did that! Every Meal, John Voit, *WHARF!*
