The Gift

I'm watching this beautiful award -winning video for the "umpteenth" time and I weep every time thinking of my parents and grandparents who gave me the gift of music by buying our family a piano and starting me at age 6 in piano lessons with the neighborhood piano teacher, Miss Lydia James! I took for 12 years with 3 different teachers, all very classically trained. I loved classical music and learning to play hymns from our church hymnal, but I also wanted to play popular music I heard on radio and songs from the many Broadway musicals we listened to and sang along with on our record player at home and the big " portable" (30 lb. record player) we packed in the back of my Mom's 1957 Chevy station wagon and took to the beach house at Atlantic Beach, NC every summer! So my parents asked a friend of theirs, Dr. James Cobb, vocal piano professor to teach me, & finally I learned to play all the popular, music I had longed to play. He taught me about chords & more! I now teach piano!

I hope to instill the love of music in my 8 (soon to 10 in April, 2016!) grandchildren by singing to and with them, doing Kindermusik classes with them (which I taught for 25 years) starting fun piano lessons with them (Kiddy Keys, a pre-piano music program for 2-5 year olds) and later (ages 6 and above) piano lessons to teach them the joy of music to have them make music a life-long companion! By the way, I am so very proud of Chris Gero who produced this amazing video and is also my "Son-in-Love" and father to Jack, Finn, Mila (and baby girl due in April!) He is a wonderful father to all of them and husband to my daughter and I can't thank him enough for all he and Yamaha Corporation and Yamaha Entertainment Group do to further the music educations of millions around the world!

With regret our community music store is closing due to covid19. But it's, as they say, not the music's fault! And we are reminded that our first vendor in 2002 was Yamaha, and they are top notch in every way, including THE GIFT. Not only is it a true marketing genius idea, it is real and inspirational to all that listen. It reminds us of all the good in music, in families, and in creativity. The production quality, the orchestration of the music itself is remarkable ... I hear something different each time I listen to it! Thank you ... for many reasons.

This gift from God through our parents is love.. We musicians are lovable. We put value to this gift. Coz our lives we're made meaningful becoz of this. I am now a father to a an upcoming 2year old baby boy, and I see music in his eyes. I love him so much. I am almost poor financially, but I have this gift that I think would be one of my greatest gift for him.. thank u Yamaha comp. for the message of this video

My marching band and high school auditorium are in this video! I was on the football field that day, when this was being shot, and all I remember was frozen water on my mellophone and I couldn't feel my fingers!

Nice video, but wow, it is White. Yes, this video is now 6 years old, but still. Also, nice video, but wow, it is Yamaha. Yes, this is a silly, obvious statement. That said, I grew up exposed to, and have played countless Yamaha instruments. Let me think, there is the Dynamic guitar, which my mother bought when she was in her 20's, and still exists. Her recorder was also a Yamaha. There was the upright I learned on, later to be a baby grand, plus a PSS that had Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" on it as the demo song. There was my tenor sax, which I played throughout junior and high school for concert, jazz, and marching band. There was the DX-7 (I think) my high school had. I now have the RGX A2.
