I have a 2006 Boston. It 's incredibly responsive and able to express even minute nuances. In a little over 10 years, Boston improved a lot. Mine sounds like a steinway to me. I'm lucky to have the piano of my dreams. Thanks for the beautiful playing Mr. Robbert!

I'm about to buy a Boston 5'4" this coming Saturday.. I hope I'm not making a big mistake.. but, I really like the sound of this particular one. Update: I bought a Boston 5'4" yesterday.. the sound is INCREDIBLE!!! Sounds like a much bigger piano and has that beautiful warm, full, rich American sound that I've been seeking for 30 years! SO glad I made this purchase, I know it's the right thing! Thanks Robert Estrin for this video, it was the main factor in my decision to buy a Boston piano!

I'm a dedicated Steinway fan. Boston sounds like Steinway, at an affordable price. I love this piano. Thanks for the love💝.

Trust me when I say, a Boston most DEFINITELY sounds like a Steinway! I bought a Boston grand yesterday, and if you put a full-fledged Steinway and this Boston right next to each other, and did a blindfolded hearing test on them both, you'd be very hard-pressed to tell them apart, that's how close the Boston's sound is to an actual Steinway.

I view Boston as Steinways competition for the conservatory series of piano. The two biggest competitors are Yamaha CX and Kawai GX (formerly the C and RX lines). They're very refined pianos and are good enough to play in professional venues or used in institutions as practice pianos. They're also mainstays in recording studios. Bechstein does the same thing with its Hoffmann line. It's built in Eastern Europe but it is a high-end conservatory line of pianos. Bostons are found in Steinway's showrooms. And in a strange way, Kawai builds a competitor for its own GX line. I would say the Bostons have a brighter, bolder tone than the darker Kawai line of pianos.

Who cares about the categories? Boston is more Versatile than Steinway itself, which doesn’t sound good outside of Classical repertoire. Boston tone is akin to Feurich 🇩🇪

Sound beautiful indeed. Thanks for the mini concert. 👍

I picked my Boston out in the Steinway showroom. It was a Kennedy Center loaner. I get it June 13!

If the label on the fall board was Steinway & Sons people would be drooling.... it’s marketing magic

Great video. It would be nice to see you reviewing an Essex designed by Steinway as well. Even though they are the entry level lines of Steinway, a good thing about them is that they keep the "Steinway promise" for 10 years.

MR. Estrin, you play so beautifully all the time. How much time does it take to memorize a piece that you play in these videos¿ Do you give any live concerts before audiences¿ Why not put them on youtube also. Thanks

I can hear the quality in this piano, but its tone seems rather metallic and a bit clangy,
@gbantock4 жыл бұрын
Its treble does sound less so and sweeter at softer volumes.

It’s different hearing a piano through KZbin and standing next to it... on KZbin many variables are to be taken into account like the choice of the mic for the video. Your device speakers, etc..

I can confirm that what you’re hearing is accurate. I owned the Boston GP-178 5’10” grand for a couple years and the bass and low tenor does have a twangy,muddled sort of tone. The treble on these pianos is quite nice, especially after voicing. But I couldn’t get over the strange tone of the bass, as well as the particularly bad tenor break, even after extensive voicing by a tech with over 50 years of experience.

Has a bright tone, not unlike Yamaha.

Would this be a suitable piano for a church that seats about 1000 parishioners? This is an old school traditional Baptist Church with stained glass windows and pews, not chairs or stadium style seating. The current piano has a cracked sound board. The last technician who looked at it said all he could do was write it a death certificate. Lol I suggested giving it a Viking funeral. Ha-ha-ha Can a cracked sound board be repaired? I live your videos they are very helpful to me. Keep them coming. Thank you.

If I were you I would get a Yamaha C7. That’s a big church and it requires a big piano. I’ll bet Robert could help you find a good one.

What about a Keyboard - you can practice at 3am without bothering anyone. I use the the Roland Fp30, which I find comparable in sound quality to my Steinway Model O.

Nice try. I have spent many many hours in Steinway show rooms playing on Boston grands that same size. It may seem obvious, but a 5 foot 10 Boston is no way even in the same league as a Steinway model O, and we shouldn’t expect it to be. But quite frankly I would rather have a Kawai GX2 for about $5,000 less than the Boston. The Kawai is actually a better piano in my opinion.
@benjaminsmith22874 жыл бұрын
The Kawai is a very fine piano. Truly excellent.

Kawai pianos S U C K big time!! The only way I'd ever own one is if someone GAVE it to me, so I could chop it up for kindling wood!

the acoustic of that room helps that piano. i doubt it's even close to this in a normal room. the cheapness would be able to be heard.
