The Gifts of the Holy Spirit - Skip Heitzig

The Holy Spirit blesses believers with spiritual gifts, but sadly, many people are ignorant about them. In this message, we learn why we have spiritual gifts and the reason they are still relevant to us today. We also learn that in order to utilize and develop our spiritual gifts, we must ask the Holy Spirit to fill us.

Hi Pastor Skip. Thank you for your teaching- you stated that you can’t get your head around the trinity. I couldn’t for ages till a friend said to picture an egg. It has 3 parts yet it is one! The yoke the white and the shell.. it’s still one egg but has parts. Same as the trinity. Yoke is Father the white Jesus and shell the Holy Spirit. Hello Randi, and thank you for tuning in! While there are many reasons to stay and/or leave a church. One of the best things you can do today is ask yourself how this affects your closeness/walk with Jesus Christ. While spiritual gifts are important how a church approaches and teaches the Gospel has a greater weight in the bigger picture.

I WAS ENJOYING your ministry immensley until you said that all gifts including tongues are available for today.I believe that that which is perfect in Cor. 13 refers to the completed canon of scripture . Jesus is not a that He is a He.. i have been in two churches who have gone pentecostal, both split and caused enourmous damage. I have been praying for my husband for 57 years and he said that if that was what happenec in churches with all of the hurt it brings he will never go again. He also said that he was at the point of recieving Christ when this happened. I havent given up on him, I pray for him every day believing that he will one day come. I have kept my eyes on Jesus, not on the damage that has been caused and am still going strong.

I should have a private relationship with God because otherwise it would take away from our OWN individuality which in turn would take away a part of our humanity as well. Our personal humanity in a sense is what makes us unique as an individual because if we weren’t individuals them our opinions wouldn’t matter and we would all just possibly be know it alls without being and without knowing much when you break it down to the details and reasons for our own actions. Think a little as an individual about this before commenting something negative back to me like what usually happens in these scenarios and try to understand what I am trying to put out there as a seed of thought. I believe in God and am not against what this man is saying, but I just sense that I should mention this because as individual souls on this planet of something greater than ourselves things do tend to get complicated sometimes. God is a God of order not confusion. The only time i the Bible we see this type of behaviour is connected with the demonic. The devil loves to counterfeit Gods gifts, and its great that God is opening up your eyes to this. God bless you in your Christian walk.

I tried to speak to my pastor and church congregation but to no avail. They felt I am trying to divide the church. I am so sad and lonely in christian walk of my life. Dont give up.Get on your phone and ring around the churches and find out what their doctrine is before you get involved. Ask them if theyspeak in tongues, if they say yes then they would have lost me at that point. I have been in two churches that went charismatic and both ended up in splits and disaster and turned my husband of 58 years away fro the church at a point where he was ready to recieve Christ. Dont worry about what people say. Remember when Paul spoke at Berea they checkec out what he said against the scriptures. That is our responsibility and our right. Corinthians 13 says that tounges would cease . They were one of the sign gifts of the early church and indeed they did cease until the early 1900s. To me its a sign to bring churches who have very different doctrines together to form one big ecuemenical church of the last days. Not good. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Spend much time in the Word . Speaking in tongues (Foreign languages for preaching to crowds of mixed nationalities) Speaking in unknown tongue is useless to others, and only edifies the speaker - 1 Cor 14:1-4 Prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless tongues are used to translate for the entire church - 1 Cor. 14:5 Speaking in tongues should never be ridiculed - 1 Corinthians 14:39 Etiquette for speaking in tongues - 1 Corinthians 14:26-33, 1 Corinthians 14:39-40 Even in other tongues (languages) will the truth be taught - Isaiah 28:11

IMPORTANT BIBLE QUESTIONS? Is there initial evidence when a believer is Empowered to Witness by the Holy Spirit? I'm not saying that there are no exceptions to this, but I do believe that Tongues were the only Biblical evidence given in Acts chapter 10, and chapter 19. Notice there was no other evidence given. I'm not saying that there are no exceptions, but they are the exception! Do we teach the normal Biblical pattern or the exception? We must teach the Biblical pattern, and not the exception. If we did, in this day and age of doubt no one would even desire desire the true power to witness! Speaking in Tongues is a powerful weapon as well as the sign the Spirit has enabled you to boldly proclaim Christ! I served the Lord for a while without the Power of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Later on when I was Baptized with the Holy Spirit I spoke in Tongues like Acts 2, Acts 10, Acts 19 and my Boldness to Witness became a Thousand Fold!! Why? The change in boldness came only after I spoke in tongues. Amazing!! What is it that made me loose my Tongue to witness in English? I believe it was the Tongue of Fire that came with Holy Ghost tongues. I believe that one can believe in Jesus and not receive the Power to Witness. One is Born again by believing, but empowered to witness by the in-filling. Look at Acts 8, they believed and were even Water Baptized but the Holy Spirit did not fall upon them until later. Also In Acts 11, and 15, when Peter spoke about Cornelius, he said, that God put no difference between us and them, and gave them the same gift the Apostles received in Acts 2. How did they know? Their only evidence was they heard them speak in Tongues! Also, in Acts 19, Paul asked certain disciples if they received the Holy Spirit since, or when they believed? Why even ask that question if people receive the Spirit at belief?? I believe the journey of being Born again begins at belief, but there is more. Why? Because, the only normative pattern in the Book of Acts to receiving the Power of the Holy Spirit, is repentance, water Baptism, Spirit Baptism with the evidence of Tongues. I also have seen too many Christians, who served the Lord for many years, finally speak as the Spirit gave them utterance, and were transformed by boldness. Why? Also, in Acts 11, when Peter was explaining his encounter with Cornelius he said... 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Then in Acts 15, at the counsel, Peter said.., 7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Wow! Today many Churches put Differences between the Apostles and believers. But Peter says... 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9 And put NO DIFFERENCE between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. So do you agree with me? That the normal Biblical Evidence of receiving the Power of the Holy Spirit to witness is speaking in tongues? If not, In Acts 8, how did they know the Holy Spirit wasn't yet given to the Samaritans? Even though they believed and were Water Baptized. The Apostles had to come up later and lay hands on them to receive! Why??

I've seen it in order and carried out as the bible has written. It's a beautiful, revealing and awesome thing. I believe if you are sincere in your heart and with an open heart go to God about your concerns and need for understanding and insight on these things, God will bring you into full understanding. He doesn't want any of us frustrated or lacking understanding. Sometimes it is hard for the mind to conceive these things, but God knows all things.

Use your common sense if you think the gift of healings, miracles and tongue should still exist today. Those who have gifts of healing should go to hospitals and heal all the sick people.
