The timeframe is different. The Gilded Age lasted from 1870--1900. (1870's being a very early estimation) In France it was called "La Belle Époque" and it lasted from 1871/1880-1914 (Start of WW1) I guess in the USA the the time between 1900 and 1914/1917 could be considered the Progressive Era. 1917 being the year that the USA entered into WW1 D.A. has much more in common with an earlier (1970's) produced show called " *Upstairs Downstairs* " (available on YT) Downtown Abby is in the timeframe of 1912 -1927. Upstairs Downstair starts slow but heats up. U.D. is set in (1903 --1930) in a London townhouse owned by the daughter of an earl and her politician husband. They have 2 almost-adult children and a downstairs staff.
