The Glasgow Subway is one of the world’s oldest metro systems.
In this third- and final instalment- of our series examining its history, we’ll be looking at the two incarnations that have defined the Subway over the past 125 years.
The first of these operated between 1896 and 1977 and was defined by a Victorian infrastructure, whilst the second is a more modern system, born from an extensive overhaul that was carried out in the late 1970s. Both versions have very distinct characters.
If you missed the previous two instalments, which cover the Subway’s origins and its chaotic first day, please be sure to check them out!
