Thank you SO MUCH for openly stating how much the parents suck. So many people make excuses for them and their "idealism", but there are so many points when I just wanted to scream at how awful they were. I'll be reviewing this as well pretty soon.

The book was okay. The book had such incredible depth in the beginning, but then it just sort of falls flat when she enters adult hood. I think the book can be broken into 3 parts First when she was a child. About 60% of the book. It had so much detail, perhaps too much. It gave the book charm. To me it just felt like a string of strories, some of which didn't need to be told The last part when she was an adult. About 20% of the book Author just breezes through adulthood almost as if she was just listing events. All the charm from her childhood stories is gone. The middle part when she was a teenager. About 30% of the book. Is a blend of the other two parts. Had the stories, but not so extentremely detailed. You get to see a little of how she reacts to it all. She shows us how she is growing from/with/because of her family dysfunction. I think this was the best part. I wish she took a little effort away from her childhood and sprinkled it into adulthood. I know she kind of left the reader to interpret the characters, but I would have liked to see some cause and effect and more of her reaction. Like college definitely wasn't easy for her and neither was moving to NYC. Tldr. The book had so much detail in the beginning about her tough life, but then it felt like one day she had enough and bought a bus ticket to nyc to solve her problems.
