I have 100% believed that Melina is the gloam eyed queen since I first got the frenzied flame ending. I think that Marika, like with many of her other children, infused Melina with an aspect of the world she did not want to continue - in this case, the whole concept of Death. When Melina rebelled, she was burned and was given a new purpose at the foot of the erdtree, where Marika was imprisoned. I think that Marika and Melina eventually came to an understanding that the true enemy was the Greater Will (or its false messengers) and agreed to take it all down.

This is my main problem with this theory, which is everything after your first sentence is complete speculation (which isn't bad, it just knocks the theory down several levels of likelihood for me). To me, it seems more likely that she is affiliated somehow with GEQ, if at all. My favorite theory is that Melina was a second half of the GEQ, similar to Radagon/Marika and Miquella/Trina, since Miyazaki confirmed the duality theme is present among all empyreans.

​@@thetacobasket6821 since the DLC, I've speculated that Melina is actually the daughter of the GEQ and Radagon, Melina never met Marika and was given the tasks of burning the tree by her mother the GEQ. I also think Messmer, obviously, is not Maria's true child, but is instead Radagon's and Marika basically stole him from his mother. I believe this seduction and betrayal was a dual effort between Marika and Radagon, and that the GEQ was the ruling inner god before Marika. I think it all makes sense, because there's an abundance of GEQ content in the world, and ER tends to equate frequency in lore to newer in the time line (which also logically makes sense).

I think the GEQ was Marika's twin. Twins play such a significant role in the story. Morgott and Mohg representing a group that was discriminated against for birth traits taking over or rejecting that system that discriminated against them. We also have Miquella representing eternal youth or naiscence and growth paired with Melenia who is always rotting or dying and declining. It seems fitting that the GEQ who mirrors the domains of Marika would be her twin. Follows a pattern anyway, with life vs death.

Her eye then opens up and it's, shocker, purple. we know messmer's abyssal serpent was sealed inside him by putting a seal there by Marika. Examples include Beast Lord Serosh within Hoarah Loux, Base Serpent within Messmer, GEQ within Melina, Scarlet Rot Avatar within Malenia(though this was probably not her doing), and if not through their eyes then likely through their Great Runes, Radahn's Great Rune resembles the aspects of a Fire Giant, Miquella's charming rune, and thats mostly it. Rykard let himself be consumed by the Devouring Serpent.

Please revisit the topic of marika/Radagon now that we know that marika was born a shaman! The way I see the timeline: Born a shaman, turned into a god, moved to the lands between to relocate the shaman, built the eternal cities and basically created the nox/numen, they created Radagon (possibly to create demigods/gods/empyreans), Mesmer and Melina were born, Mesmer was sent back to the shadowlands and waged war against the hornsent, Melina was sacrificed to burn the old erdtree and begin a new order of gold, then from there, everything we know happened (rennala+radagon, marika+godfrey, and then the shattering) then takes place

I have a theory that the GEQ is Messmer’s and Melina’s real mother and Radagon is the father. Marika kidnapped them as such with relative ease to contain their blasphemous powers that would pose a threat to Marika’s Erdtree Order. I think the Snake Iron Maiden’s are depicting this act of Messmer and Melina being taken away from the GEQ considering the connection to Serpents and the fire that can burn the ErdTree.

I don't think she kept her identity secret. I think she didn't know until everything was burned away, including whatever Marika did to suppress her memory and seal her eye. I think she wakes up to understanding she's the Gloam Eyed Queen when her eye gets unsealed.

Another point about Melina is/was the Gloam Eyed Queen: It is said that Marika removed the Death from the Elden Ring, but then Maliketh took it from the GEQ. This means Marika donated the Rune to someone close to her, and who's better than a daughter? Then Melina started to kill gods and Maliketh stopped her. Also, about this, Maliketh is also called Death of the Demigods. This means he killed some demigods, and demigods are said to be Marika's children. Also, with the Dlc, now we know probably Messmer burned his sister, as his flames burns even the souls, and it's said his sister saw a flame like him. About connection with the Nox... to be fair i don't see so many connections. Indeed Godskin are creatures generated in some way, but all about them screams more a connection with Golden Order and snakes. Nox refuses the Grace in their eyes, while Godskin shows a faces on their clothes, with eyes full of Grace. Also, skin alive someone usually, in culture, means steal their essence and their strenght, and in this case, possibly, their grace. (Some fan-transaltion, nothing canon, of their songs calls a "We want our stealed grace". Nothing canon but it's damn fit good.) Also, Nox are pretty much arcane-int society, and while Dragonkin uses a little of faith with their own dragon incanttions, the effect is still pretty int-correlated, as is a cold lighting. Godskins have nothing merely cold or int or arcane, total the opposite as they use a fire. Also, for snakes, as you said the serpentine qualities of Godskin, their presence the Manor (And one protectin Ranni's corpse, and Rykard was part of that conspiration) and the protection of the altair of the snake makes me think more they are allied or even generated in a way similar to snakes. (Also the Noble clothes talks about a connection with the crucible too)

If the scene from the trailer is depicting Marika taking gold from a dead serpent (possibly the one Melina sided with), That would mean either she became a god after her dispute with the Gloam eyed queen, or the serpent was just an ally of Melina, and she got pissed because of his death, turning the eternal cities against Marika if she was their queen. Marika then sends those cities underground in retaliation. Just spitballing what came to mind watching the video

The silver tears were artificial attempts to copy the Numen affinity for being able to merge with living flesh (living jars, grafting, whatever the hell Rykard was up to). Marikas power was somehow derived from her merging with life and death, maybe Melina (her 1st daughter) was born with the aspect of death as Mesmer (her 1st son) was born with the aspect of the serpent? Mesmer was banished to hide her origins and I assume Marika thought the less desirable parts of her merging had gotten the kinks ironed out after Mesmer and so Melina wasn't banished but she instead went to rule the Nox, messed around with the silver tears, perfected the technique with the Godskins (I think they're sort of equivalent to tree sentinels) and then started an uprising because Marika was suppressing death. I think the GEQ (Melina) is then defeated and bound to the rune of death rather than the sword and this is why she only reappears after the rune is broken by Maliketh (assuming you used yourself as the kindling). Rykard, Ranni, Godrick and Godwyn had some knowledge of the process that made Marika a god but only Miquella figured out how to make it happen.

Melinas dialogue makes it so painstakingly obvious she's the gloam eyed queen if u look at it all together. Her purpose was lost long ago (her purpose likely being death which was sealed away by marika, therefore lost), she hates her mothers designs (the removal of death, which we know melina wants to unleash by killing maliketh, whom she guides us to) and her mentioning of destined death threee times in the game. Obviously, if u connect this to her weilding destined death at the end of the game, her gloam eye/the beast eye and her prison cell in leyndell it paints a clear picture

Well, i think Marika sealed the gloam eyed queen into her left eye. That or when Melina was born, she harbored the Gloam Eyed Queen. This would make sense given Messmer had the abyssal serpent sealed inside his body and was sealed away by Marikas eyeball seal. I believe that Marika wanted to spare her daughter the burden by destroying her physical body (to avoid the shit show that was Messmer) while still being able to see her daughter and giving her daughter the ability to still exist. When the Erd Tree was burned away with the flame of frenzy, her eye finally opened because Marika was no longer around to hold it back, when that tree burned (as explicity stated by the flame of frenzy IE to burn everything away and essentially reset everything) it set her free of restraint and allowed that sealed portion to finally break free. Just some head Canon, I think it fits pretty well all things considered. Especially since we know of messmer and how he had shit sealed inside him, pretty sure Marika just wanted to spare her daughter such a burden, maybe by guilt or realizing she was cursed.

I think Melina is the Gloam eyed Queen, and she served Marika in the war against Giants, Dragons and Raya Lucaria-Carian. She was very important at that time when the Golden Order want stablished yet and the Elden Ring included the Rune of Death, because she and her apostles where the ones who could kill the other Gods, demigods and else. But when they defeated their enemies, Marika feared the power of death and decided to take out it's rune. When this happens, Melina and the apostles fought back and when fighting Maliketh, she burned the original (material) Erdtree (thats why Lyndell is all covered in ashes) and losed her body. The Rune of Death was sealed and else...

I think Melina and Mesmer were the ancient gods of the dragons and giants respectively, and when defeated Merika used rebirth witch she learned from her marriage of Ralanna as Radagon and made them her ‘children’ to carry out her will. Mesmer to burn the old kingdoms that caused her people so much suffering and Melina to kill the god that she will inevitably become.

I have a crack theory that the "sin" Maliketh talks about isn't losing the rune of death but killing the Gloam Eyed Queen and sealing destined death, betraying her I think, or disrupting the natural dual balance of the world, after all he's found taking refuge in a giant ancient mosaleum that seemed to worship her and the twin birds in the past, when beastmen were more commonly intelligent and their dynasty was yet subsumed by Marika's golden order

My head-canon: GEQ/Melina was Marikas original plan before the Tarnished. She plucked the Rune of Death from the Ring herself, and something that vital, you wouldn't just toss away for any rando to find, you would give it to someone you trust. Maliketh killing/defeating the GEQ may have been a hiccup in that plan, or GEQ was no longer trust worthy. Now, with a Greater Will programmed dogman in control of her way out, she had another hiccup. So she turned to her husband and his army as plan B or C, cus she also somehow betrayed Maliketh as the new vessel of the rune. So maybe the Black Knives were plan B, tarnished Plan C. Great schemer, terrible follow through, that Marika.

The only thing that makes everything in the lore fit to me is that Marika was the Gloam Eyed Queen herself until she got defeated by Maliketh who was forced by the Two Fingers to turn on her against her will much like Blaidd did Ranni and was punished thereafter by being forced to become the vessel and also had the Radagon persona forced on her to keep her under control and she has been slowly being taken over by Radagon ever since until she reached a desperate breaking point (or the brink, as it is said in game) where she felt he was taking over and shattered the Elden Ring to prevent it. I think this is also why you never hear Ranni speak kindly about Radagon, and why she shed her empyrean flesh, so the same could not happen to her. She was afraid of ending up like Marika. Melina then inherited the powers of the Gloam Eyed Queen when the Radagon persona lost power. I think Radagon is a personification of the Elden Ring itself, and why it made itself a polar opposite of Marika (to perfect itself), and why Radagon thereafter sought perfection of himself and the laws of the world, because the Elden Ring had tried to take matters into its own hands through personifying itself through Radagon inside Marika's body, hence Golden Order Fundamentalism.

I think Marika and the gloam-eyed queen are the same Empyrean, just different apsects. The statue surounded by three wolves may represent 3 aspects to the Empyrean that were given protection by the two fingers. Marika left behind her erdtree incantation while her other half may have left the snake skin. After her defeat against Maliketh, Godfrey had arenas fight against the snakes to comemorate the battle between the wolf and snake.

If you look at the swords specifically, as you said smough, that the finger slayer blade is crafted from the fetus or a mini 2 fingers that curl together to make the blade. IE the Nox stole a fetus from the finger mother Metus to craft the blade via forbidden rites? Also the Godslayer greatsword is decorated with the sigils of the crucible (spirals) as what is against Marika's kin would be most effective, channeling the power of the crucible that Marika's godhood would usurp. As to if the GEQ is the sword, it is possible, but there is nothing in the lore that suggests that the GEQ couldn't touch the physical realm herself, as the point of the relic sword is that the elden beast is unable to attack you physically only with spells, and needs the blade (radagon) to effect the player in it's fight. I tend to lean toward the idea that GEQ 's Godslayer greatsword was originally the consort, and via forbidden rites that also made the fingerslayer blade, the consort was turned into her weapon.

Without ample evidence I've come to the conclusion..... that the game didn't give us the key lore details to uncover the identity of the Gloam-Eyed Queen, nor they exact events of the night of the black knives, nor the reason behind the sealed eyes of Ranni and Melina.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say something absolutely nuts. Godwyn is the child of Marika and Radagon, and Radagon Pre-dates Marika and likely melded Marika as the Crucible's inheritance as a Fell God. Godwyn basically looks like a perfectly blond Radagon and Radagon is specified in game of being of giants blood. What do we know about Giants? That's right, they predate humans. This ultimately means something even more insane: Messmer is Radagon and the Gloam Eyed Queen's son. And it's why Marika took out BOTH of his eyes and replaced one with an Iris of Grace, because Messmer had one Red storm eye like the Fire Giant and one Purple eye like Melina does too. Now this leaves left the reason why she even did this in the first place, i'm under the belief that the Hornsent were previously led by the Gloam Eyed Queen and this is who you see depicted all throughout Enir Ilim with the statue holding a child. Now onto my next insane take 💀 Melina is the daughter to the Gloam Eyed Queen and Marika, via fleshmelding of some sort as a seed into a tree. It explains why she has one Gloam Eye and one Gold Eye. This, would explain so much. The Betrayal, why Marika was even in good standings with the Hornsent at all instead of being stuffed into jars like all the other bloodflesh monstrosities with pretty female faces and long blonde hair. The Gloam Eyed Queen was in love with Marika... THAT'S the Betrayal D: Even more so, Radagon was the Gloam Eyed Queen's Lord and the events of Marika's betrayal versus the Gloam Eyed Queen made him switch sides, probably unwillingly, hence why Marika treats him so non existant and calls him the Leelhound of the Golden Order. Now here's the kicker, Marika probably found out what the Gloam Eyed Queen's next step was for the gate of divinity and it probably wasn't good, i'm betting she was gonna sacrifice her firstborn AKA Messmer. Marika then steals Messmer and forces Radagon to work for her if she ever wants to see him again. My take is that Ranni is the Gloam Eyed Queen for a few reasons. For one she tells us she stole a fragment of Death, and we know a fragment of Death was only stolen once and by one person - the Gloam Eyed Queen. Moreover, the Godskins exist to kill the gods which suits Ranni’s mission. Lastly, I believe Melina stole Ranni’s Gloam eye as a way to gain the power to see Death, kinda like some Madara Uchiha stuff with eye stealing to gain power. As for the Gloam eye itself, Gloam is a colour related to purple. Numens like Melina have golden eyes, while Carians have blue eyes. Death is red. So if a Carian acquired Death, you can imagine it influencing the wielder’s eyes, turning them purple, as red and blue makes purple.

This doesn't really add up, the Rune of Death as a whole was the GEQ's domain, not just a fragment. It had to be taken from her by Maliketh when she was struck down. Plus, the connection with purple is tenuous at best given St Trina's the one most directly tied with purple, which would make the connection even more separate since that would indicate Miquella as the actual GEQ. Ranni's got little to nothing actually tying her to the Gloam-Eyed Queen and honestly, it's more likely to be a Nox given that the Godskin production process is much closer to the artificial life the Nox produce.
